The worst night of my life (so far)
So I was pulled over in San Diego last night at 420am because I was going 85 on the freeway. I had partied earlier in Tijuana, and had had my last drink at about 10pm (I'm sure you can all see where this is going). I had 3 big tacos at about 1am, and took a 40 minute nap at about 330am. So I had gotten up from my nap walked around, and was sober as fuck, so I decided to make the drive with my friend back home to Orange County.
I got on the freeway, and we were bullshitting about whatever back and forth to keep each other awake, when I saw the CHP pulling me over. I pulled off the freeway and parked at the end of an offramp. Officer douchebag came around to my window were I was coming from, and what I had to drink (vodka), so he did the follow my finger with your eyes routine, which I had promptly aced, then took my info back the the cruiser, he came back and did the finger thing one more time, and then he asked me how old I was. I said 20, and he gave me a surprised "20?!" in response (I figured he looked at my 21 in 2007, and didn't read past that).
So he pulls me out of my car, brings me to the curb and gives me a breathalysers test. I do it, and I blow a .049/.049 (anything over a .01 is illegal if you're under 21) So he writes me up, and gives me a "driving with alcohol in your system when you're under 21" citation which comes with a unpleasant 1 year suspension.
That's the major bummer of all this is the suspension. That is unbelievably brutal in southern california.
To make the night worse, they towed and impounded my car, then dropped us off at a safe well lit area at 445am. A 7/11. I called the impound yard and they said I couldn't pick it up until 9am, so my friend and I who didn't have a charged cellphones decided to wait in a Macdonald's across the street from the 7/11. We waited in that god forsaken Macdonald's for 4hours. I never want to see another inside of a McDonald's again. While we were waiting though, there were a lot of interesting people that came in and out, most notably a 50yo druggy who decided to be very talkative to us. He was cleaning his crack pipe, and then rolled a joint in front of us inside mcdonalds. His loony friend and his 70yo dirty ass girlfriend joined him, and then he bought some weed from them by dumping the goods on the table, and then taking and putting it in his baggy.
Finally it was nearing 9am and we called a cab, who's driver didn't speak english and didn't know where he was going; so 4 miles, many minutes, and $15 later we got to the impound lot.
The sign said $160 to get out the cars impounded there. However it turns out the CHP has a special rate of $325 for cars they impound! fuckkk! so i wait until almost nine, and a girl popped her head out of the counter, and asked us if she can help us, and we said that yeah she could, but noticed it wasn't 9 yet, and asked her if she was open. She replied "yes, we're open all night, who told you we open at 9?".
thus capping off my night (not mentioning the hour and a half drive I made home after that.
Does anyone have any experience in turning around the suspension of the license? The officers said I have to call the a certain DMV number within 10 days if I want to try (which I do, and which I will), but does anyone have any protips? Also, my court date isn't until 2/17/08, so I'm going to see if I can get the judge to reduce my speeding ticket, and if he has any authority with the suspension then maybe talk to him too.
