Superbad - Pretty good, but too much profanity. Or maybe I'm getting old.
Bridge to Terabithia - Not bad for a sappy kid's flick. Zooey Deschanel is hot.
Planes, Trains & Automobiles - John Candy > the universe. "We've got a better chance of playing pick-up sticks with our buttcheeks than getting out of here tonight."
Mr. Bean's Holiday - Rowan Atkinson > reality. His pre-Mr. Bean Live stand-up DVD is some of the cleverest funniest shit ever.
Halloween - The Rob Zombie version. Interesting re-imagining of the original (which is still superior imo).
The Big Lebowski - The movie rules much more than I remember it did, and I remember it ruling vast continents and deepest oceans. Jeff Bridges is severely underrated, in general - I've never seen him give a slightly bad performance (though he's been in some bad movies). Skinny Philip Seymour Hoffman looks weird. Julianne Moore likes to get naked.
Elf - Will Ferrell's perfect. Zooey Deschanel is not as hot as a blond.
Babe - Seriously, one of my favorite films ever. I just freakin love it. Sequel's underrated, too.

God I hate Elf. I had misfortune to watch it recently. It was ho-rrible ~~~

Yeah, it is annoying. That's why Will Ferrell is perfect.

I watched the first few episodes of The Maxx on my shitty bootleg DVD. These need a real release. In good quality. Will probably finish the rest shortly because the Project A DVD case is empty and I have no clue where it went. And I don't have any Jackie Chan movies of equal quality here. I am not pleased.

Just watched TMNT feelings about it posted in the TMNT thread. The new Pride and Prejudice comes next from Netflix when I send TMNT back.

Went out to "Before the Devil Knows You're Dead" tonight, there's a thread for it.

It will kick your ass.

Watched the Blade Runner Final Cut.

Really not very different from the director's cut.

I like that it's a new print. It's basically the same movie with like 30 seconds of alternate takes, though.

(I wish they'd corner Harrison Ford and get him to do the narration properly.)

Kurt Russell and the sweet flat black muscle cars in the world couldn't save that stupid fucking Death Proof. It might have been better if he'd kilt that second set of girls too but I don't knwo.

Is there actually anybody out there that thinks Quinton Tarantino is good at writing dialogue?

He does really good stylized dialog (not in DP though), but nothing that sounds like it's coming out of human beings.

At least human beings who haven't just watched every episode of Kung Fu and done a Johnson's Baby Powder container worth of cocaine.

Kurt is such a pro he made his weakass dialogue sound, um... Less weak. But when you combine that crap dialogue with girls who can't act and a writer/director that's full to capacity on his own "genius" it becomes so painful. Then it gets even more painful realizing that there are vacuous young ladies who will no doubt be inspired by this and will ape the performances of these shallow nonactresses in real life and I think I'm going to go shoot my face off with a bazooka.

He really needs to make friends with Roger Avery again. I heart Pulp Fiction, but that was absolutely not 100% QT.

I know. And it's funny that the dialogues he is probably most famous for (RD, PF) were by Avery. However, Reservoir Dogs fucking sucks. Especially the dialogue. Anybody who has ever sold so much as a forty sack could've sussed out the narc's bogus backstory. That was pathetic.

But yes. I LOVE Pulp Fiction and even moreso, True Romance. Now that is a movie.

Yeah, RD doesn't really hold up as well as I hoped.

True Romance IS pretty awesome, and is often overlooked.

Egh, I'd probably really dislike it. Hits too close to home due to certain high school acquaintances, too. I also have a hard time watching King of the Hill for this same reason. ;)

Due to former acquaintances of mine this movie is one of those that is sort of almost embarassing to watch. But it is very well done and beyond hilarious.

The bar that they do the drug deal thing in the bathroom of is the Fieldhouse, one of the bars I went to regularly when I was in college at UI.

God that movie was horrible.

I went to see Sweeney Todd yesturday. I wasn't familiar with the story before I saw it, I didn't know it was that horrifying. I enjoyed the movie, but it was too gory for me, the parts I peeked at were really...ugh.

Watched a couple of next weeks releases today.

Resident Evil 3. Pretty crappy overall. Just wasn't very interesting.

War. Not bad actually despite the horrendous reviews. Decent action with an alright plot twist near the end. The very end was queer though.

Next up, Shoot Em Up.

There are three movies that while they may not be my favoritest ever, I've found I can watch them over and over and over and never get tired of them.

Watched Dangerous Days, the 3 hour 30 min making-of Blade Runner documentary included in the recent Final Cut DVD release.

Amazing.

Re-watched The Kingdom. Excellent movie, with interesting story, great action in the last half and some thoughts to leave you with once its over.

Watched Sweeney Todd, I've never seen a movie that was so violent yet so boring.

I watched Rush Hour 3 and left me apathetic. Average at best in every possible way.

I watched Rush Hour 3 last week and I still feel nautious as how shitty that was. Its was beyond average.

Watched Idiocracy on a recommendation from a friend. Better than I expected given the mixed reviews.

Been catching up on some flicks over the holidays:

Blade Runner Final Cut - when i was younger , i always had a hard time staying awake through this movie. now that i understand it more, it has to be one of the deepest films ever made. In HD the visuals are superb for a 25 year old print, and thinking about the influence this film has had on sci fi in general is mindblowing. The final cut flows very smoothly and takes out the akwardness of the Directors cut. Needless to say, ill be checking out the rest of the versions in the set for comparison asap. Also, the briefcase version of the lastest release kicks ass

Ratatouillie - Looks amazing on Blu, and a pretty damn good movie too. nuff said

TMNT - Looks awesome in high def at home as well, still have the same thoughts as posted in the movie thread

Delta Force - Chuck kicks some arab gonads, too bad this shizz is in full screen on dvd :(

Silence of Sleep- great visuals, cool film about dreams by michel gondry. Gael Garc&#237;a Bernal is great as usual

Raging Bull- never saw this and figured id check it out since its on the AFIs top 10 of all time list. DeNiro was great, and his physical appearance change was astounding

Boiling Point- Takeshi Kitano gets wacky, this was kinda meh for me. I love Sonatine and Fireworks and Kitano in general though

Bottle Rocket - This started out wierd because of the precedence of other films from the Wilsons i have seen, but it was so quirky and original it had me cracking up. anderson is an awesome director

The Chumscrubber - billed as a dark comedy. it is, and it plays on the disconnect from parents and kids in the modern age. I found it so so, it has one of those intertwining storylines that all ends in a pinnacle

Horrors of Malformed Men - 60s Japanese horror/exploitation. crazy rich guy mutates people on an island. doppleganger brother takes his dead twins place. if your into old school japanese cinema, at least worth a rental

Stendhal syndrome - Dario Argento creates another great thriller. Asia plays the lead and is a cop who is chasing a rapist/killer. The killer takes a liking to her and captures her for his pleasure. It changes her life and she slowly transforms into someone else. Not for the weak stoumached, there is also a pretty cool razor blade scene.

Inland Empire - I love David Lynch, and this is no exception. not everyone will like this flick for the slow plot, but most likely because it was shot in DV and looks like total ass. The story is pretty much a deeper rehash of mulholland drive. As a cool bonus the ending credits are a tribute to all lynch works

Black Sheep- No, Not the Spade/Farley flick of the same name. This is definitely the best, worst movie ive seen in a long time. By that I mean it was so bad it was awesome. Pretty much sheeep are being genetically engineered, and in the process something goes awry. A mutant sheep gets out and attacks people and other sheep, turning them into "were-sheep" and zombie sheep who start to devour the living and pass on the mutation. Comedy Horror buffs definitely check this out (Thanks Nick!)

Inland Empire is one of the biggest pieces of shit of all time.

I just watched Master of the Flying Guillotine again. For those of you who aren't familiar with it, it is one of the best movies ever mad. And one of the funniest!

I feel like Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat both take a HELL of a lot from that flick.

Watched Broken Arrow. What a fun little action flick. Travolta playing a great bad guy, Woo doing good action, and Slater and Mattis as neat pair of heroes.

Love it. I even prefer it to Face Off. While FaceOff might be closer to Woo usual spirit of the film with more of his touches, Broken Arrow wins action wise, and lacks all the whining Nic Cage does lol

I studied Blade Runner in high school, and the amount of symbolism and metaphor shoved in it is crazy.

I picked up Black Sheep yesterday and hope to watch it tomorrow. Special effects by WETA ffs lol

Watched Predator 2. Awesome fun.

Demolition Man. What an awesome movie, one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. It's right up there with Street Fighter.

Taco Bell won the franchise wars. So every restaurant is now a taco bell. It had such an all-star cast too which made it even funnier.

I was really excited to see this movie since I love Mike Judge, and ended up slightly disappointed. Not as funny as I expected it to be, but I will say Brondo was fucking hilarious.

I watched Taxi Driver last night (Chux got it for me <3 <3 <3). I had seen it years ago and loved it, and I loved it even more this time. What a classic movie. Anyone who hasn't seen it needs to do themselves a favor and see it right this instant.

Watched Tremors on HD. After all these years it still awesome little monster comedy. Funny, tense and cool

watched Eastern Promises and The Kingdom the last couple days. i really didn't need to see Viggo's ballsack that much but overall a decent, if very slow paced movie. The Kingdom was a totally different type of movie than the trailers let on. pretty decent as well.

I was surprised how well Viggo and Kassel spoke Russian. Bathhouse fight owned.

I'm watching LOST Season 3 on Blu-ray, rationing at no more than two episodes a night. It's heaven... but I'm already half-way done. :(

Just watched stardust on friday, and enjoyed it. they took a lot of liberties with the book, but it seemed to keep the spirit of the book well though.

Superbad: Overrated.

Sweeney Todd: Avoid at all costs.

The Wire: Super Duper Awesome.

Steal This Film II - Vastly improved over the first one, this time they focused on intellectual property and it's history of war. Absolutely brilliant, and everyone needs to download and watch this. In fact I'm going to make a thread about it.

No Country For Old Men-awesome, its actually good enough to get me to quite playing games so that I can finish the book, which is a miracle with all the great games out rightnow.

Jackass 2.5-its jackass, if your a jackass fan you'll love it, if not than you won't be impressed

Finally watched RE:Extinction. WOW what a piece of shit. It made part 2 masterpiece if compared. But hey it was light and you could actually see the horrible action it had lol

I especially liked the endless waves of BALD zombies in blue jump suits coming out of Freight Container. Yeah all of those looked exactly the same, or they just were lazy and used same 2-3 actors in every friggin effect shot.

Tyrant with his speeches of grandeur was another delight. Too bad they didnt throw in a tentacle rape joke.

Alice became HERO with a fucking SUPER MIND POWERS????? It blew my mind. Paul Anderson was very high when he wrote this.

Chubby Wesker is now scared of army ALICE CLONES invading Tokyo.

ALso it had character named K-Mart. Yes.

The South Park movie was on Comedy Central which made me put on the DVD to avoid commercials (plus it looks 150x better on DVD). I forgot how funny that movie is. All they lyrics came back to me too. One of my favorite comedies of all time.

Sympathy for Lady Vengeance. I liked it about as much as Oldboy.

Recently:

Ratatouille - One of my favorites of all time. Pixar's best to date, I think.
War - Eh, it was OK. Bit light on the action, I thought, and the OMGTWIST at the end was kinda weak. My wife liked it much more than I did, surprisingly. Devon Aoki looks like a creepy forty-yr-old widow, and her Japanese was just awful.
Black Sheep - The rabid-flock-of-sheep-WETA one - after reading about it here, actually. We both enjoyed it a ton, as it had that Dead-Alive vibe about it. My favorite bit was the guy throwing his chewed-off leg at an approaching Doom Sheep, which almost made me choke on some pasta. Nice recommendation, guys.
Snatch - Damn this movie rules. And to think I HATED it the first time I watched it.
The Heartbreak Kid - The Farrelly/Ben Stiller remake. I liked it quite a bit. Just about everyone in it is a complete ass, but it was entertaining enough. Ben Stiller really needs to start playing a different character though, as he won't top Ruben Feffer, ever.

Recently:

Shoot Em Up: Like I said in its thread it still fucking rules.

War: I never hated it as many people, and I still enjoyed it again. I guess I love seeing Jet Li, not only utilize his ma skills but also just be efficient in killing people instead of prolonged ma battles most expected :p

Big Fish: wanted to see this for a while and it ended up interesting and enjoyable movie,

I dunno, Ratatoullie just dint work for me. While animation was top notch, i didnt care about anything else in it much.

Yeah, that's a good thing. I really liked Oldboy and Lady Vengeance. Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance didn't do it for me, though.

I showed my buddy live free or die hard tonight, and he agreed that it was the jam. Then me and my girl friend watched the 1989 Batman, so it's been an all around good movie day.

Watched Season One of the US version of The Office tonight and half of Season Two. What a great show. :D

I finally got around to see Hidden Fortress, awesome stuff.

I also watched the Great Mouse Detective for the first time since I was a wee little one. Awesome movie that suffered a bit from such a small budget and thusly lower production values. I'm kind of tempted to make a thread on forgotten Disney Animated features like this one.

One of my old professors animated some Basil scenes in that flick. :D

Saw There will be blood on friday and as a big PTA fan, i was dissapointed. Jon Brion should have been involved with the score because the music in this movie sucks compared to Magnolia. It was boring for the most part, which isn't suprising considering most of the movie takes place in a couple of shacks in the middle of nowhere. It wasn't a bad movie, just not PTA's greatest.

I'm kind of surprised to hear this. Reviews made this sound pretty incredible. Though I did hear the music was too attention drawing. But how was Daniel Day-Lewis?

Watched Ronin the other night, great action flick. Heat is next on the list.

Friend of mine gave me a bunch of (non Western) Eastwood flicks for Christmas.
This past week I've watched:
The Deadpool : On one hand, it probably is what ruined the Dirty Harry franchise, on the other hand, you watch Jim Carey lip synch "Welcome to the Jungle", and it's big car chase scene involves a remote control car. Cheesy, yet satisfying.

Tightrope: Could easily have been a Dirty Harry movie. A bit of overacting from Clint, but some good death scenes, and tits. I recommend it.

Firefox: I used to like this movie when I was younger. Watched about 30 minutes of it and turned it off. Hasn't held up at all.

Tonight I'll watch either Heartbreak Ridge or Thunderbolt and Light foot.

I really wanted the Any Which movies, but instead got shit like Space Cowboys and The Beguiled. ugh.

Also, the kids and I watched Funny Face. My daughter loved it, but I was surprised my son sat through the whole thing. Perhaps he had the same motivation I did. Audrey Hepburn. It was kind of depressing watching Audrey have to suck face with what looked to be a in his late 60's Fred Astaire. Great movie overall, musicals are growing on me.

Heartbreak Ridge is pretty awesome until they get to the actual war part, which isnt as good. Other than that, all I have to say is "SWEDE SWEDE SWEDE!"

Finished season 1 of Dexter. What a fucking magnificant show. Just started season 2. Too scared of the Dexter thread incase theres spoilers lol

Shoot Em Up - Modern day big budget B Movie with big stars and over the topness = #1

The Lookout - Joseph Gordon Levitt will hopefully end up being one of the best actors of all time. Another great performance and Jeff Daniels is pretty swell too. Definitely :tu:

i-rOBOT- I put off watching this one for a long time. just seemed like hollwood bastardized some good Asimov. Ended up being better than i expected and didnt go too demolition man cheesy. Still not the greatest adaptation, but at least it stuck to the premise. gives me a little hope for the I Am Legend remake

This was the most boring shit ever, how they manged to fuck up a concept so brilliant and captivating I'm still not sure.

3:10 to Yuma - Excellent western. Somewhat slow moving, but with great performances by Bale and Crow.

The Terminator - Arnie classic. Havent seen it in a while, still rocks.

Return to the House On Haunted Hill - Original was ok horror (well at least until last 15 mins or so), so I decided to give sequel the chance. What a piece of shit. Except for some neat gore and tits, completely retarded and forgettable.

Watched Heat and aside from a few parts I thought it was boring. Michael Mann knows how to make the longest movies on the planet.

I picked this movie up for free in one of those Buy one Get One free deals. The first time I watched it, I didn't care for it because I thought the movie was advertised as being about a nice guy who ended up marrying a psycho bitch. After watching the film, I didn't think there was anything wrong with the woman in the movie...but Ben Stiller was a total dickhead. I rewatched it a second time with the knowledge that Ben Stiller was just a moronic dickhead, and I laughed out loud quite a few times......a decent comedy if you can get it for free :)

I watched 3:10 to Yuma last night, and that movie is all sorts of awesome. Its probably the best movie I own on Blu-Ray at the moment. Russell Crowe totally steals the show...

Watched Death Sentence. Great flick. Very sad and soo fucking brutal.

I've watched about 20-25 movies in the past week, but today I've only watched Rescue Dawn.

It was boring.

I just re-watched season 2 of 24 in the past 3 days. Awesome.

I'm in the middle of Shawshank for the first time.

I can see why this is IMDB #2
