This movie did not to much to assuage my fear of Germans! Ninety years after its release, it's still genuinely creepy and affecting. Caligari himself, the sideshow operator who commands a man he claims has been asleep since birth to murder, is scary has hell. The painted, stylized sets like the ones in Caligari, which were unheard of at the time I understand, are mesmerizing. I wish I saw this movie before Tim Burton did, so I could have made a gajillion dollars off of imitating it for a few decades.
Its runtime is only 70 minutes and change if I recall, so if you don't like it, you won't have wasted very much of your life finding out. Highly recommended!
