I have these movies on my WD-TV, and recommendations from anyone on what I should watch today/tonight?

-Planes Trains and Automobiles
-Wendy and Lucy
-Phoebe in Wonderland
-Zodiac
-A Very Long Engagement

-Swordfish
-Death Defying Acts
-Elite Squad
-JFK
-Apocalypto
-Schindlers List

I haven't seen any of those with the exceptions of Apocalypto and Schindlers List. I just haven't seen those in HD. I'm leaning towards Elite Squad, although I have a feeling a barrage of "omg you haven't seen Planes Trains and Automobiles, you heathen," will be coming my way.

Put that fucking movie on your fucking TV, right fucking now.


Saw "Futureworld" last night, sequel to Westworld. I wish they'd have gone for the Body Snatchers ending. Pity.

The movie DOES feature a reaaaaally weird dream sequence featuring Yul Brenner's robot gunslinger character, though!

What Yeller said... Planes Trains and Automobiles is wonderful.

I've only seen half of future world when I fell asleep at 3:30 when watching it on Showtime or something one night. Westworld, I thought, was sort of boring. Not in concept really, more in... execution maybe. I don't know

Yul Brenner was awesome in that movie. I would go to Westworld to shoot people and fuck hookers.

Westworld is one of those movies I'd like to see maybe a David Fincher (or even an Edgar Wright) do a remake of. It fits the "held back by the special effects of the time" catagory, plus you could go waaaay out there with the dark humor angle.

It has one of the better career batting averages as far as long-running sketch shows go. Every episode is worth watching, but it's not without its duds. Compare to UCB which is one season of brilliance and two seasons of trash.

I highly recommend Mr. Show. It might not always be funny, but it is always uncomfortable.

Ok, finished Season 1 of Prison Break - Fuck this was intense show. Cant wait to start Season 2.

Had my annual watching of Equilibrium, this time dj wanted to see it too (yes, he hasn't seen this before, aside from bits here and there. I love my Japanese hd-dvd of it, and movie is fucking great as ever.

Am I the only nerd who thought Equilibrium was terrible?

Yes, it was good. However, I will say can't stand movies where things constantly go wrong for the main character, and he is constantly frustrated. It's the same reason I hated Meet The Parents.

Just finished up disc 1 of Generation Kill. Fantastic series so far. I certainly hope the higher ups eventually get put in their place for all of their constant fuck ups.

I just watched it again this morning on BRD. I had to freeze frame every kill. It was wonderful.

Through the magic of cable TV last night, I saw Alien Resurrection, Cyborg, The Lost Boys and The Ten one after the other.

Movie day!

The Sentinel: Michael Douglas shines as usual. And Keifer REALLY didn't have to work hard for this role. Gee a Secret Agent ... 24 anyone.

Quantum Of Solace: I loved it. I actually liked the car chase scenes and the big payoff was well worth it. It sucks I didn't get to see this in the theaters.

Roll Bounce: I've seen it before on Starz, but now that I own the DVD(five bucks). Its a nice feel good movie. The music is all 70's and the Charlie Murphy scenes are hilarious.

I have never seen this show, but this is fucking amazing.

The Mighty Boosh is really strange, it's worth watching though. Peep Show is better in terms of new British stuff.

The Last King of Scotland: Awesome. Forrest Whitaker's performance was outstanding. I just wish Nicholas got to hook up with Sarah(Gillian Anderson). Overall, near the end I felt bad for Nicholas and the situation he was caught up in.

That was a really great movie. I need to watch it again.

Rented Bukowski: Born into This the other night, really cool documentary. I've picked up the short story collection "Tales of Ordinary Madness" since then.

I get the idea that he and Robert Crumb really kind of tapped into the same kind of mood in the '60s. Dark, smutty, real sick sense of humor. Real cool shit. :tu:

I read part of Tales of Ordinary Madness. It's all him being ornery and trying to suck his own dick. Pass.

I watched the TNG episode The Inner Light the other day. Holy shit, Picard must have some pretty fucking severe identity issues.

Yeah, in like one three page story. The second one in the whole book, I think. Try again.

I skipped around in that book as I do with most short story collections. Still, pass.

I thought it was funny. :D

"Clerks" must have really upset you.

I don't know, it's been a few years. I think I sold that book, actually.

I picked it up the other day for something like $8 used. There's a pub called Bukowski's up here, incidentally.

HURR HURR THEY CALLED ME MR GLASS. fuck that ending. I enjoyed it up until it got fucking stupid and there was freeze framed happy ending text.

If you walk away from the movie five minutes or so before the credits though, MAN, you get a pretty alright movie.

Shame it can't be un-ruined, isn't it?

edit: You could get a time machine and loan a million bucks to good ol' Nighttime Shamaland and have him make an ending that makes sense without dropping you off a cliff, but what's the point?

It was like the last minute of Season One of Californication. Why the fuck did they have her run off from the wedding?? Does that not negate the whole point of the series - that Hank gets over his ex and moves on with his life? Californication: a well written dramedy fucked in the last minute. Never bothered with season two.

I'm sure the first Matrix movie is still totally watchable after the sequels ruined that, but I'll never know.

At least the dealbraker in that instance is located in two entirely different movies.

Honestly my favorite part of Unbreakable is a deleted scene, where he is pressing weights at the university and all those big ass football players are all jaw dropped while watching him lift

It got dumb. The big reveal at the end was wasted with text and not further developed. I was with it until he put on the poncho.

I haven't seen Unbreakable in some time so I forgot how it ended besides SLJ being a sort of criminal mastermind. I remember liking it

I liked it a lot, right up until THE TWIST.

THE TWIST IS THAT THEY DIDN'T FILM A GODDAMN ENDING WHAT A STUPID MOVIE

The Mr. Glass = Supervillian thing was purt-ee dumb, too, but it wasn't bad next to "And then the badguy went to jail, and everyone went on to own Pottery Barn shops in the midwest, THE END ...?"

That way none of the cast or crew could leak it.

This was the movie they filmed in order, so everyone could be "taken on a journey" or some shit. Right?

I don't remember. That seems like a really dumb motivation to film something like that.

He should've stopped making movies at The Sixth Sense.

The very end of the first Matrix when he's on the phone. "I'LL TELL YOU WHAT YOU DON'T WANT THEM TO KNOW." and then flies towards the camera. Ruined. I loved the movie until that point, and after that point i thought it was complete trash. When i watched it again, it was the worst movie ever. And it will always be. The Matrix sucks. Forever. The end.

Twilight Samurai - I thought is was quite engaging and very realistic. Although I found it a bit hilarious that they showed him getting the girl in what seemed like a flawless happy ending, but moments later the daughter's voice over lets us know that peace didn't stay with her family he died 3 years later.

The best part of Unbreakable is when he is in the train station feeling the evil all around him and getting these glimpses of evil deeds. I thought it was very well shot and the music was perfect.

The movie is great. I really, really enjoyed it a lot. Then it ends like a turd. Fuck it.

It's not just a caste system that was separating them, it was even more so family status dictating what they could and could not do.

Watched Outlander. It got better as it went along, but it made me long to watch 13th Warrior.

Rachel Getting Married- Netflix said i'd like this. Netflix lied. The shakey "i'm following this girl everywhere" camera makes the viewer feel involved, as does the surround soundtrack, but the characters are very annoying and hanging around them makes me feel like i'd be using my time more wisely somewhere else. So i turned it off before the halfway point and it is going back to Netflix tomorrow. The. End.

Soldier- crappy sci-fi movie from the 90's. Movie was shit, but yet again proves that Sir Kurt Russell has the hardest stare this side of Clint Eastwood.

Also a pseudo-Blade Runner sequel!

Had last few free days, so I watched shit tone of stuff

Public Enemies - Not bad outing of Michael Mann though I do agree with critics on the use of camera, too of a DTV/TV look, and being somewhat too long in some parts. But Depp, Bale and Mann's classical style saved it from failure. The gunfights, especially the one at night in the Wisconsin woods were excellent.

Blood: The Last Vampire - While the story doesnt make any fucking sense, and most of CG is laughably awful, the flick did have few things going for it. Some of the action scenes were pretty cool (mainly the bamboo forest battle against demon ninjas, though the alley fight was kinda cool as well, but too overly slow-moooooooed and quick cutted.
Pretty much in the cast was overacting horribly, some in more funny ways, while other quite painfully. Overall, another mediocre attempt for Anime to Film conversion

Finished up Generation Kill. My time spent with 1st Recon was awesome. Every minute of that series was great. I just wish there were more of it.

That movie SUCKED. Seriously one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

Phew! I thought maybe i'd missed something by stopping after the obviously uncomfortable "Weh weh weh, i was in rehab and if you didn't know now you do" speech. I'm happy to learn that this is not the case.
