Ghostbusters Bluray. Movie never gets old, but its a shitty bluray. That makes me sad!
The Hollywood Video near my gf's is closing and they're selling all their movies for $4 a piece, so I finally got around to picking up a few old favorites (a few Star Trek flicks) and guilty pleasures (The Fast and the Furious, The One), as well as a few flicks I've never seen but had been wanting to watch (including Frality and Dog Soliders).
Dog Soldiers is an amazing movie
Just watch Shaolin Soccer. It was good silly fun. It had a very Kung-Fu Hustle vibe (I'm aware SS was released first).
Very enjoyable.
It's really jarring! I just finished up the movie and it is a good movie. It is a very hard movie to watch. The guy that played Kirk did some GREAT Shatnerisms, while still making the character his. Everybody did an awesome job in their roles.
Visually it boils down to: WE ARE SHOOTING ON FILM, YOU CAN TELL BECAUSE LOOK AT THESE LENSE FLARES! WE ARE NOT SHOOTING DIGITAL OK? WE ARE USING ANAMORPHIC LENSES! WE ARE MAKING A REAL MOVIE AND NOT A TV SHOW!
It's in all caps because, visually, this so is the movie. In the fight scenes, every single punch was from a different camera angle. Why? There is no "flow" to action this way. Seems silly.
Why... wouldn't digital... have lens flares? I admit ig'nnce on the subject.
Kisses and hugs for all. *SMOOCH*
WHAT
THAT DOES NOT EXPLAIN SHIT
YOU SON OF A BITCH
What I think Josh is getting at is that when people make movies, they try to avoid lenses flair. It is kind of like the filming equivalent of leaving bird shit on a car when you are trying to sell it. yeah, it happens. But, uh, if you are serious, why not, you know, get rid of it?
watched Shin Getter Robo vs Neo Getter Robo . Probably the easiest and shortest of the Getter Robo OVAs to get into. Big Robots blowing shit up and fighting dinosaurs.
Macross Frontier. I've been watching this in HD. This probably hands down the best looking anime made. The visuals are crazy. The amount of action in the last episode is crazy. There are moments with easily over 100 things on screen killing each other.
Johnny Got His Gun- Jesus. Watching this movie makes nothing seem important anymore. The best thing you can do is just go die. It's great and has a weird fucking sense of humor, but afterwords you either need to have a straight razor and a bathtub full of hot water or a few episodes of The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack to get you out of it.
The Reader.
I was expecting more sex.
digital cameras don't really have lens flare.
I watched Blade Runner (final cut) tonight. Another movie that has LENS FLARE, except in this movie it is not distracting, is not overused, and is not vulgar and gross.
Blade Runner is amazing, I love it more each time I see it.
it really is phenomenal.
I got to see Final Cut in a theater. <3
me too!
I was tempted to watch this earlier tonight, oddly enough. Didn't get a chance though.
Finished BSG and looked back on the BSG thread. You guys were way harsh on that show and had absolutely no patience. Every episode didn't need to be epic reveals and dog fights, I agree that the writing got a bit sketch near the end and showed a lack of planned, but for the most part I was pretty gratified by the end of the show. The attack on Cylon colony was incredibly exciting, I had no idea if they were even going to make it out of there.
Guess I'll watch The Plan this weekend, Caprica after that.
(elf came on USA a little bit ago. it's good to watch once every few years because it's way cute and so is Zooey Deschanel. so shut up!)
Me four.
I saw it in a theater where I could drink beer while watching it.
ELF SUCKS. End of fucking story. One big eyed bitch in it, wont change the fact.
Elf was great. End of fucking story. One big mouthed bitch saying otherwise, won't change the fact.
Note to self: download blu-ray rip of Blade Runner final cut.
It's been too damn long since I last watched it.
Oh hey I saw Antichrist a few days ago. I liked it. A lot, I think. Especially those incredible super-slow motion shots. Beautiful stuff.
And I didn't really find the violence to be out of place or gratuitous.

You probably win in terms of sound and screen size. But that's a pretty theater, and it was also fairly empty when I saw Blade Runner.
Neat!
it was packed when I went. More than one person had electric umbrellas.
I went at midnight, so I think maybe 5 other people were there.
Last Friday I saw The Lost Boys in a rad arthouse theater that served alcohol. It was so fucking good. This Friday they're airing Akira, and allthough i haven't been interested in anime since i was 15, Akira is a feat of animation and should be amazing on the big screen.
I'm still kicking myself for missing the Predator 1 & 2 double feature.
Watched half of 2010 last night. Not bad! Not nearly as bad as I was expecting. More of a side-story than a sequel to 2001.
*edit*
Nevermind, I somehow managed to respond to an old ass post.
wat?
watched the hangover last night, i love that movie so much :)
I watched ratatouille the other day. It was cool. It was nice to see a modern day kids movie that takes choosing between family and work, seriously.
I'm not a Pacino fan by any stretch, but Dog Day Afternoon was pretty incredible. Two of my favorite themes in movies are Schemes Falling Apart and People Losing Their Shit. I am quickly realizing that Sidney Lumet is the guy I should've been following my whole life.
Holy biscuits. Pinky and the Brain is class beyond what i could understand when i was a kid.
Brain: Who would blow up our lab?
Pinky: That clown from Washington!
Brain: Newt Gingrich?
Brain: Yes, Pinky, i'll tell you a story: the greatest legend of all time!
Pinky: The legend of affordable universal healthcare?
The Prisoner parody was amazing, i just wish there was more.
Brain: I AM NOT A HAT! I AM A FREE.... NOT A HAT!
I understood the class of Pinky and the Brain when I was a kid.
we didn't get the WB in Montgomery. I think it was too racy. We didn't have UPN either, NBC showed Voyager and Deep Space 9 way late at night.
Just caught the Rifftrax Live Christmas shorts simulcast. Packed house in NY, very funny though. The Rudolph Christmas short was fucking... weird.

Man, I'd love to find a sweet black girl that would have my stupid ass.
I googled "sweet black girl" for you and I believe I found you a winner....

eeeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh,, Little TOO sweet.
Does this make me officially an old man now? I just turned 30 a little over 2 weeks ago.
Hangover - Decent, with few good laughs, but nowhere as awesome as many people hype it up.
I just saw Akira double billed with Perfect Blue at radarthousetheaterthatservesalcohol. Akira on the big screen is fucking amazing, and Perfect Blue is much better and Lynch-like than I remembered it.
Excuse me, who are you?
So awesome.
Also, in February they're doing a double feature of Suspiria and Dawn of The Dead, as well as Tenebrae with The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I came a little when I found out.
Unforgiven - Man, this was a good one. It's been on my to watch list for years, but never got around to it. Finally did in HD, and it was great.
Assassination of a High School President
This was damn cool movie. Basically it's a hard-boiled detective/reporter story except the main character writes for the high school newspaper. It's not meant to be realistic by any means (it's very "stylish" and sometimes lampoons itself, and is sort of a love letter to old pulp), but the dialogue is great and comes with a decent helping of Mischa Barton titties.
It's one of those movies that reminds you that movies for teens often USED to be smart enough for adults too.
Terminator Salvation
I didn't bump the main thread because there was nothing more to say. It wasn't really bad in any way, but it certainly didn't live up to the name, though the short Arnie "cameo" was a really nice touch.
The movie could have, and should have been so much more.
Haven't seen Brick, but having read the synopsis at IMDB, I'd so no it's not like it.
Except it's a noir/hard-boiled detective story taking place in a high school setting.
With what appears to be a completely different tone and plot.
Funny People - The least funny Apatow movie. Not that it's bad, it's just not lol funny. More of a 'this is amusing' funny the whole time. The last 3rd of the story when they are in SF is unnecessary given the length of the thing.
Avatar - Big Fat Meh. Shame on you Mr Cameron.
Anvil: The Story of Anvil
One of the best docu's I've seen in awhile. Great story with some heart breaking shit scenes. "Come on, we have to play. The place is packed!" Cut to 6 people in the audience.
I laughed pretty hard when they showed the fan who looks like the Canadian version of Kenny Powers from East Bound and Down.
Watched Sin City again last night for like the 15th time. <3
Watched Terror of Mechagodzilla. <3
I watched Caprica yesterday. I am not too sure about it. I enjoyed it, I thought it was solid drama, but the tone is so remarkably different despite being in the same BSG universe. I mean, if it weren't for the Cylon design and everyone saying Frak I don't think you could see a connection at all.
I don't know. It sparked my interest, we'll see how it goes.
My son and I are watching Commando. Its his first time. Moments such as this are what makes being a parent worth it.
He's already learned an important lesson from this. When a woman does not react favorably towards your shitty pickup lines and sexual harassment, you make sure to let her know she's a fucking whore!
Life lesson #2: Yes, Superman is faster than a speeding bullet; but so are you! Somersaults are the key!
He'll also learn that the Matrix eats Green Berets for breakfast.
Dude, this is my kid we are talking about. Can you tone it down?
???
Even though its a TV show.
I'm watching the Original Iron Chef on FLN, used to love this one. God this one is WAY better than the American version on FoodNetwork. And I love Iron Chef America.
This one is not only more disgusting, but also funny cause of the bad bad bad dubbing. Its like they are trying to make it all serious, but it comes off as comedy gold.
Advocate=Ronnie J. McGorvey confirmed.
Who?
Advocate=Jim Cunningham Confirmed!
Just watched Raiders of the Lost Ark for the first time in at least 15 years! :tu:
I downloaded a torrent with like... 150 episodes of Iron Chef. I love that show, it's one of my favorites, I could probably watch it all day.
I watched a ton of movies in the past few weeks:
snatch: 5/5 - The DVD I have says that it is the original UK version, and in this version all the colors are dark and muted, dull grays and greens. But when you watch the american trailer on the dvd you will see that the colors are a lot brighter, did the studio do some sort of color correction for the american release?
Galaxy Quest: 5/5 - This movie is now 10 years old, and I am now upgrading this to a 5, I enjoyed this movie from begining to end.
(500) Days of Summer: 4/5 - This could very easily slip into a 5 in the future. I think this, along with eternal sunshine are the best movies on relationships I have ever seen.
Speed Racer: 4/5 - I gave this a 3 at first, but I've fallen in love with this movie. I definitely think this movie will be looked at in 10 years as one of those groundbreaking movies that made no money in the theater and people will wonder why it was so hated during its time.
Eagle Eye: 4/5 - I knew I was going to like this movie.
K-Pax: 4/5 - I have a friend that watching this in one of this classes, and the professor told the class that kevin spacey was just a mental patient and anyone who thinks he was an alien is an idiot. I do not agree with his assesment. Jessie from Breaking Bad makes a cameo at the end of this movie.
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang: - 4/5: There is some great dialouge in this.
Shopgirl: 4/5 - I'm upgrading this from a 3.
Evolution - 3/5: This could've been a 4 if not for all the cornball jokes. I did laugh hard a couple of times during this though.
The Rules of Attraction: 3/5 - I love the brutal way these people act towards one another, what a bunch of assholes! But I don't think this movie really works as a whole, it is very stylish though. My favorite scene in this is the reveal of who the suicide girl is, I love how that is done.
The Last Kiss: 3/5 - This movie was going to be a 4 but the ending ruined it. I loved how brutal these character's attitudes were, but it ended like an episode of scrubs.
Swimming with Sharks: 3/5 - This is a movie I bought at the supermarket for $2.50. I liked it, its like the devil wears prada but about a guy working in the movie business. Kevin Spacey is great in this, he has a lot of funny lines.
Irreversible: 2/5 - This movie was really obnoxious. I found the camera work to be annoying, and the backwards gimmick undermines the movie because all the interesting stuff is load up at the begining of the movie, and it just becomes boring after the mid point. I would of liked it more if the two main characters went on more of a rampage through the city looking for the rapist.
Sling Blade: ?/5 - I got so bored with this movie I turned it off half way through, should I give it another shot? It was riding on a 2/5 before I turned it off.
Sling Blade is a pretty crazy movie, put Billy Bob on the map to say the least. I remember it fondly, but it's been years since I've seen it.
just watched a dvd called Big Boobs on Tiny Girls:too much for tv :)
Sling Blade is pretty awesome if you like slow paced movies.
Maybe there really is a santa claus because Total Recall is on right now. One thing I never understood - after Quaid jumps through the xray glass it seems like the security guards just stop caring that he has a gun. As if the sound of the breaking glass gave them amnesia or something. The one guy even watches him run away and lowers his gun. Now go to the Hilton and flash the Brubaker id at the desk.
