Arrested Development! The gift of Netflix Instant now has all 3 seasons up (among a title wave of Fox shows). I forgot how damn funny this show was, it's in HD too! I'm also making my way through the first season of Flight of the Concords which is a good time too.
I watched the movie "Ninja" and I'm not sure why. I guess I wanted to see some ninjas. Came out last year, has no one famous in it, but it wasn't that bad! Cliche as hell, (rival of the American in a Japanese ninja dojo goes AWOL and comes back to reclaim his place as #1 and kills their sensei! Cue revenge!) but the action was solid! Some great choreography, committed stunt men and it looked like the main star and the girl did most of their own shit. There was some really cool fight direction too which was a real treat. Some inventive shots and angles that let you see everything and it all made sense! The subway car fight was a real standout. It was a good "I don't have anything better to do" flick.
News Radio Season 3 is on Instant and it's awesome, not a bad episode so far with 16 episodes knocked out. What an awesome show.
The episode with Jon Lovitz in the asylum was fucking brilliant.
"Cigarette?"
"No thanks."
"I wasn't talking to you... Cigarette, prepare to be smoked."
It's so hard to take a break from this show once you get on a roll.
I just finished season one of "The Greatest American Hero". I loved it when I was 7 and I still love it. The theme song has been in my head all week. Did anyone else find Danny Glover?
Is that the Believe it or not, I'm walking on air theme?
I used to love that show too.
It turns out Robert Culp did a bunch of voices for the Half Life games.
wow.
For a second there, I was 6 years old again.
It gave me goose bumps. I feel like a faggot.
Darjeeling Limited: Too hip for me I guess.
It's better the second time you watch it.
I saw...
Toy Story 1- It's been too long since i've seen it. Some elements look really shit, but overall it's a lot better than i remember it being. It's weird how iconic it has become! I remember seeing it in theaters and liking it, but i never expected to look back and say, "Wow. That was really something!"
Toy Story 2- In a lot of ways it's so much better than Toy Story 1; it's exciting, it looks a hell of a lot better, it fleshes out the characters, it succeeds more at having some kind of meaning behind toys having rejection issues. At the same time, it lacks the punch. Often it feels like the creators were just trying to show off at how much better they'd become. Pretty damn good anyway!
I just finished watching Firefly and Serenity. It's a shame the show got pulled off the air. Both the television show and movie were highly entertaining, witty, and dramatic. I thought for sure I'd hate it since it seemed to be a Sliders rip-off but I think it's akin to Sliders' first three seasons. I'd recommend it for everyone.
I saw the movie first and fucking hated it. TV show has a couple decent episodes.
Watched The Brothers Bloom. Liked it! Cute movie.
Why are we friends?
Perhaps you would like some "Doctor Horrible Sing-Along-Blog" and an "I Heart Joss" tee shirt, fitted "small"?
I would take it. I'm not joking.
2012, they did the "get-in-the-plane-and-fly-out-of-diaster-zone-in-the-last-second" scene not once, not twice but three fucking times. It is pretty awful
Serenity and Firefly are awesome, Yeller is foolish.
When I watch 'em, all I can think of is "From the writer of Alien Resurrection". Sorry.
Also: that last episode of your Firefly blows away the rest of the series, 100%. That is "the good episode".
Its cool to hate :p
Anyways, been on movie binge for last day or so - Lots of trashy stuff to feed my brain :)
Survival of the Dead - Latest from zombies daddy Romero, and while still trash, you can see that old Ge ogre had some fun time with it. Its practically a western with zombies, and had few great genre staple scenes, caste in the new light. Zombies are still good old, slow moving, but still have that magical sneaking ability. There are plenty of fun kill moments, and zombies snack on the victims in grisly details. Not a classic, but still somewhat decent, and a good effort.
Descent 2 - Now, this is a sequel that wasn't really needed. First film, was tight, tense monster flick. Here is more of a lets go use same sets, with few same people, and try to make it fresh. It just doesn't work, though there are plenty of decent scares and gore is cool.
See No Evil - Retarded Giant Bald Wrestler chases bunch of cliched bad teens through decrepit hotel. Stupid story, but kills are actually quite cool and gory. Great demise for the villain, especially with after credits scene.
Smoking Aces 2: Assassin's Ball - More energetic than original flick, though not less retarded story wise. Some crazy character moments, cool action bits, that included tnt strapped midgets used as cannon balls. Surprisingly decent time.
fuck you Yeller! Firefly is soooo Goood!!!
I watched Reign of Fire for the first time yesterday...I thought it was neat
Firefly and Serenity are great. I also don't judge shows based on what other shows the guy who wrote it has done.
Pff.
Anyway, Reign of Fire was one of the better dragon movies! The ending was a bit weird, I remember?
yeah it was a little out there, but still fun to watch
There must have been a firefly bug in the air. I let my son pick out a movie to watch yesterday. Even though I've tons of stuff he hasn't seen, he picked Serenity.
<--- another Firefly fan. Watched it after it went of the air, but Fox are douchebags so big surprise.
I forgot to mention Bollywood Hero. It was on IFC yesterday. Finally, a Chris Katan movie that I didn't completely hate!
500 Days of Summer - I had no idea what this was even about being putting it in my queue. Just saw all of you clamoring about it. Pleasantly surprised. It is every failed relationship rolled into one package. The "so you're ready to be just friends now" line made me chuckle and choke up at the same time. Been there, heard that.
Gamer - oh my......words can't describe how awful.
(500) Days of Summer is a great movie because it is pretty much just that and almost every person in this country can sympathize with JGL's character.
He's too much of a goddamn pussy. I was never that broken up over anyone.
I wouldn't be that broken up over fat chicks either.
Ok, few more flicks:
Cop Out - I like Kevin Smith, yet this shit. Not funny in about 90%, stupid, boring, and Bruce Willis looked bored throughout.
Kiltro - Chilean martial arts comic/superhero flick. Some cool fighting but laughable story and horrible cg blood effects.
Pit Fighter - Hitman finds redemption though rounds of bare-knuckled combat and killing evil Mexicans, or maybe Columbians. Trashy, ultra cheap, yet fights and gun action was surprisingly competent and gory.
My local theater has started playing old movies at 11 pm on Saturdays for $3.00, complete with $1.50 beers. I finally went, because they were showing ROBOCOP!
It was mostly college kids, so I don't think anyone in here had ever seen the movie on a big screen. I hadn't either, since I was 8 or so when it came out. When the ROBOCOP title came on, there was applause, just as such a classic deserves.
I'm pretty sure some of the kids had never seen the movie. It was very entertaining getting the reactions of everyone else, especially during the really violent scenes. There was more applause when the credits rolled.
Fuck yeah Robocop!
Fucking right.
The night I graduated from college the people in my apartment complex and I got together and got a royal fuck load of beer, chicken wings and pot and projected Robocop on my living room wall. Shit was badass.
My friends next birthday is a costume party with the theme "that mad club scene from robocop". Should be awesome.
I almost bought RoboCop on blu-ray over the weekend, but it had no extras on it, thought that was kinda lame.....I already have it on dvd
Dolan's Cadillac - Brutal and a real good movie based on a very short story by Stephen King. Seeing a man slip into insanity and then murder was shockingly disturbing. Slater was awesome in this.
Robinson - Do you believe in God?
Dolan - YES! YES I BELIEVE IN GOD! YES!
Robinson - I don't.
Bad Lieutenant - Nicolas Cage was AWESOME in this movie. What a fucking dirt bag. The performance alone by Cage was enough for me to say it was a great movie, but the supporting cast was incredible.
I am fine with disagreeing with you two on any number of things. :tu:
Firefly shouldn't be one of those things.
Moon. Not quite the mindfuck I was expecting. The "twist" happened way too early. Still a good way to have spent my sick afternoon.
The twist wasn't the point! :D
Yep if you think it was then you don't get it at all.
Moon was great. Mooning you was even better.
Did you do cheeks or 'full spread'?
I don't remember even saying the twist was the point to the movie, just that it happened earlier than expected.
I was really relieved when I found out that the movie didn't hinge on that plot twist. I had pretty much sussed it out from the trailer alone.
Exactly, if they had made the plot twist a late thing then the twist would have been the point of the movie and it would be like those shitty shamalamadingdong movies.
I just watched Drag Me to Hell. Dolemite gave is such a shitty review I stayed away. I loved it, though. Such a rich tapestry of occult laced horror there. Pretty unique and fun to watch (some truly guffaw moments, although all of the SHIT LANDS IN MY MOUTH moments could have been dialed back). The world he defined in 1:38 was quite strong. And I loved the tongue-in-cheek attitude of the whole affair.
The only thing I didn't like was that the story played out like a morality tale, yet the chick did absolutely nothing wrong to the gypsy. The bank extended her twice and she still cursed her for the denial after that?
That movie was garbage.
Pat Garret and Billy the Kid. Peckinpah has yet to disappoint.
Drag Me to Hell ruled face.
YOU BLACK HEARTED WH-O-O-O-O-RE
The only place that movie fucked up was on the advertising campaign. They sold it as a pure horror movie. It was much different than a straight horror movie.
Also, that CG eyeball in the mouth was pretty bad.
I thought it was a little harsh on her. She started off as a sweetheart and really was just defending herself throughout the entire thing. But I like that. It was a unique story about a deity shitting on a normal, every day person who didn't deserve it. Kind of like Job from the bible but with way better cinematography and campy blood-spraying-out-the-mouth moments.
She only murdered the kitten so she didn't get dragged to hell. It wasn't like her thoughts were immediately to get rid of the thing when shit hit the fan.
Still, it's kind of a dick move to murder a kitten. I agree that it was harsh, but Raimi definitely believes that her comeuppance was deserved, he's said so in a few interviews.
That movie was trash. Raimi has been trash since...1998.
Quick and the Dead was the last really really good movie he was involved with. A Simple Plan was the start of the downhill slide that turned into the Spiderman movies.
Wait. What's wrong with A Simple Plan?
Nothing really. That's why I said since 1998.
I liked it a lot. I thought the kitten killing was the best/funniest part. The girl was a bit selfish, but she did not deserve what she got.
Tried to watch The Men Who Stare at Goats last night. Fell asleep about 30 minutes into it.
you suck
Watched From Paris with Love last night, it was pretty bad ass. I highly suggest seeing it if you haven't yet
oh! I get it now.
:portalhug:
I liked it pretty well too.
The Men Who Stare at Goats is fun. From Paris with Love is atrocious.
It really is!
I saw a play last night. Does that shit count here? Any of you savages attend such things? It was called Two Trains Running. It was about a black dude who owned a restaurant in 1968 Philadelphia and the city was going to impose imminent domain and buy it from him, as well as a couple of other story lines concerning people who frequented/worked at the restaurant. It was really fucking good.
Plays are cool, I haven't been to one in a long time.
I just saw "The Man in the Moon" (1991) with Reese Witherspoon. The movie is great but I'd never heard of it. Rottentomatoes gives it a 92%.
You probably didn't hear of it because its a romance movie with Reese Witherspoon.
After watching KICK-ASS yesterday, I followed it up with the straight-to-video Woody Harrelson flick, DEFENDOR.
It was a good day for wanna-be-superhero movies.
I heard it was terrible.
Eminent?
Casey Jones???
I'd watch Casey Jones the movie.
watched avatar and the lovely bones on blu ray. both look amazing and bones actually is one of the better looking blu rays ive watched, too bad the movie itself kind of sucks. The end battle in avatar looks stunning also, but bones looks better overall.
He gets the roles written for DeNiro that DeNiro is too good for nowadays.
Yojimbo- Way great! I love the music and that Toshiro fellow is way handsome.
