Most of the people who do these things do it to "send a message" to the world that has shunned them.

So, a bit of a humorous in a "how dumb can you be" way addition to this story... one of the girls that knew the killer (a friend of his ex-girlfriend?) posted on her MySpace how terrible and pathetic he was for doing this. One of guy's friends decides to call her up, and leaves her a voice mail saying how she'd better stop talking shit about the his friend or else he's going to kill her.
Girl gives voice mail to the police. With the city in the state that it is after yesterday's events, you can kind of assume what their reaction to receiving such a thing might be.
