I don't really understand why people expect Wal-Mart to effectively give this woman $400K because her story is sad. Apparently they'd rather have the negative press about this and keep their money. Actually, I bet they dig in now because they'd rather be seen as cheap assholes than weepy pussies.

It's a matter of principle. She was an employee for 8 years and had an unfortunate accident. Most companies in that situation wouldn't retrieve the money, but Wal-Mart did and that confirms the soulless culture of the company.
It's like when someone owes me $50 (which someone does). Yeah, I'm entitled to get my money back, but I don't because I know someone would need that $50 more than I would since I'm doing okay financially. I guess to each his own.

The family sues the trucking company that caused an accident which in effect put her in this condition. WalMart then sues to get the money she won in the case, because of a clause in her medical insurance. They are not asking Wal Mart to give her 400k. They are asking Wal Mart to not go after the money they are using for her to live. They only have 277k in the bank left. Wal Mart wants 417k. They don't have it. The Husband divorced his wife so she could get money to use for her medical bills.
That's the problem.

It's a sad situation, but are we really all that surprised at Wal-Mart's course of actions. They know people will still work and shop there no matter how corrupt they are.
I personally won't shop there, but in many places, Wal-Mart is THE place to shop. It's like mecca to white trash.
As far as people working there, it's a job that pays. That's all they need to hear.

I do like WalMart for the medicine though. 4 bucks for medicine without a prescrip plan.

I should go freerent some rollerblades again.

Target is pretty much the same as Wal-Mart, except with a little polishing. It's all the same imported stuff, except with slightly nicer packaging and a 30% increase in price. I'm not fronting, I still shop at both Wal-Mart and Target (depending on what time of day it is). A lot of Target being "nicer" has to do with poor people not shopping there.

Exactly. I remember when only "white trash" shopped at K-Mart, and everyone else shopped at Wal-Mart. Now Target's the place to go. It's sad that stores have that kind of social stigma attached to them. Here, people shop at K-Mart, Wal-Mart, and every other store equally. You'll run into the same person at Wal-Mart that you will while buying at Macy's. There's no distinction here.
I shop there because it's convenient and there's not really anywhere else to go but K-Mart, and I mean that in terms of variety, not social status. Had we a Target, I'd shop there too.
