Right, so I'd like to hear TNL's recommendations for places to stay on The Strip (not interested being anywhere else).
Making a trip w/the g/f in May and I'd like to get some (informed) opinions about where the best time is to be had.
Currently I'm trying to decide b/w Paris, NY-NY, and the MGM. Wynn/Bellagio/Venetian are out of my price range and I don't want cigarette-stained carpets at the Stratosphere.
Anyways, love to hear what TNL thinks.
I like the Monte Carlo. Decent rates, not too crowded, nice buffet, pretty clean. Plus they have Lance Burton, master magician.
Yeah, that's your best bet if you are not coming in to spend big money. You can sucker the Bellagio if you deposit 10k you get a free suite, you don't have to spend it.
its way on the north side of the strip but the stratosphere has some really nice sized room for good prices.
Rio has the best buffet, Champagne brunch FTW
Rio? maybe 10 years ago, now it's terrible. Granted I have not stayed there since 2001 though.
i didnt mean stay there, i just ment their champagne brunch is ftw. Ballys is right dead center and last i remember wasnt TERRIBLY overpriced, but we got a much larger room at the stratosphere for less.Quote:

I just stayed at the Flamingo a few months back in one of their new remodeled "Go Rooms" and it was awesome, best place I've ever stayed on the strip. Plus you're within walking distance of a lot of the hotels and it's on the monorail system so you can get pretty much anywhere on the strip (and a few places off strip) really easily.
What were you spending per night? It's more expensive than Monte Carlo I believe.

It was really cheap since it was during the week and I got an e-mail offer from my "rewards club" card. I think I paid about $80 per night but normal rates are between $150-$250.Quote:

Like I said, I put 10,000 down, get a free suite, then proceed to only spend what I want (usually around 3-4 grand for the weekend) it's foolproof.
I stayed at the MGM last year and will be staying at NYNY for '08 CES.
MGM was nice, there is a great bar in one end called Centerfuge which had a waitress there that had the greatest ass known to man. We spent one day walking part of the strip from the MGM down we stopped and rented a car from the Avis in The New Frontier and got a good taste of "Old Vegas" with its outdated 20 years ago decor and corpse like clientèle. Its a pile of rubble now, as they demoed it a few months ago.
We hit the MGM Buffet which was pretty good, and also the one at the Luxor one night. I also faintly recall going to the only open resturant at MGM after a night of drinking and spending like $65 bucks on 3 cheeseburgers.
I can't wait to go this year, really want to try the coaster at NYNY as we didnt get a chance to hit it last time.
The Luxor "inclinators" are annoying as shit, too.
Nothing but bad news since their Sega arcade closed IMO.
Opaque and I discovered that paying top dollar for a room is kind of pointless if you're going to be out all night. Usually I stay at the Excalibur. Decent rooms for a decent price and in a good location. New York New York is also pretty neat, but I haven't stayed in a room (Opaque has).
That being said, The Mandalay Bay is fucking awesome, but its kind of expensive. It has the best pool anywhere, though. Lazy River and $7 Bud Lights? Fuck yes.
I've stayed at the Rio, Treasure Island, Paris, and Mandalay Bay. All of them are pretty sweet. Treasure Island was reasonably priced and I think it's right in the heart of everything.
Treasure Island is neat. I've always liked that place, and Ceaser's.

I'm jumping on the Monte Carlo bandwagon. Stayed there for my 21st bday weekend. Nice play with a nice collection of resturants and the Houdini Lounge which if you are lucky can catch the Rod Stewart impersonater do a few songs.
I've been to Vegas two or three times. I stayed at the Luxor first, and it was ok. Nothing special. First time I experienced a phone by the turlet.
Then I stayed at the Plaza on Fremont Street and it is by far the nicest hotel there but it's still a dump.
If my wife and I ever go there, we'll probably stay at the Bellagio. My sister has stayed there religiously the past 3 years so that's good enough for me. Or the Venetian as a I have a rich friend who swears by it.

I go to vegas four times a year. I've stayed at most of the hotels on the strip and downtown. Hell I'll be going there in January for a few days.
I recommend the MGM and the Flamingo as the best bangs for your buck. They're both great hotels for a low to moderate price and they're always offering some good deals.
If you got money to burn go to the Venetian. The suites over there are expensive, but awesome. Paris' suites are great too, but the Belagios just aren't worth it compared to the Venetian. I haven't stayed at the Wynn yet.
If you just want a cheap room on the strip, Imperial Palace is the way to go. Its a little ghetto, but not as bad as some of the other hotels in its price range plus its pretty much center strip.
I stayed at the Imperial Palace my second time out to Vegas. It definitely isn't a top shelf place to stay but for the price I don't think you can beat it. Plus you're right in the center of everything so it's an easy walk to somewhere really nice. The rooms weren't anything to write home about but there wasn't anything wrong with them either.
I'd recommend it over the Luxor any day of the week.
I just got back from Vegas. Stayed at the Imperial Palace for cheap. It worked out fine. Others from the party stayed at Ceasar's. The rooms were great and the pool was heated. I know it was more money, but I don't know how much more.
Check out Freakin' Frog and Rosemary's off the strip. Rosemary's is fancier, but an awesome dining experience. Expect to pay handsomely for it, though. Both for the taxi (it's a ways) and the meal. Call for reservations and specials (good deals for lunches, half price wine bottles on Sundays). The Frog is something of a college bar for cool kids. The projector plays Eternal Sunshine For the Spotless Mind, sound down and subtitles on, while a jazz band improvises kind of scene. Most of the other activities we did were on the strip, so those are more obvious. The Burger Bar at Mandalay was yummy, though.

Heh, my room at NYNY had nothing but a view of that place. We had dinner at the Diablo Cantina out if front of it one night. Its the only casino on the strip I dont think I've seen the inside of, but its supposed to be pretty nice.
Both NY-NY and Paris are neat, but I think I liked Paris a little more because the rooms were cuter. (I just remember them being nicely decorated) though I think the shops inside were kind of boring. But, it's right across from the Bellagio, so you don't have to walk far to see the water show and it's a nice view.Quote:

The shops are fun, the Eiffle Tower is romantic, and there is a really great magician in the mall area between Paris and the other hotels. I dont remember his name because I was plastered when I saw him, but he does a lot of the audiance interaction (I got to be part of the show once!) and he has a more intimate venue than Lance Burtan or the other huge names out there. Like I said, I dont remember his name, but you cant really miss seeing his venue area in the mall there.
