He's right.
I want to know why the explosion in Texas (that killed and wounded WAY more people than Boston) got about 10 minutes of media attention. I'd also like to know why OSHA didn't shut that place down years ago.

There, answered your own question.
Don't assume that people genuinely torn up about the Boston bombing aren't also torn up about Baghdad bombings. Maybe we feel closer to the Boston victims because we can identify with them more, standing on an American street watching a race in what is a safe spot 99% of the time. That hits us closer to home, literally and figuratively, plus it's everywhere on the news, such that you almost can't avoid discussing it.
In my city, we have people holding candlelight vigils and leaving flowers on strangers' doorsteps after random shootings, so don't think real life is like what you see on the Internet. I know in my office, almost no one mentioned Boston after the initial news.
In a technical sense that has no basis in the ways people think. If we take it all the way then why ever concern yourself with any deaths? There's always something worse that's happened somewhere else.
This was a planned attack with discovered links to possible perpetrators, occurring in our country, and still has unknown reasoning behind it. It's at the front of attention here because it's an issue with a clear storyline that can potentially be resolved and possibly give additional insight to the growth of terrorism in our land. Texas is not at the forefront because it's not about the number of deaths, it's about the security, the implications, and the fairly straight forward nature of a story with a "villain." Just saying, "More people died to penguin attacks last month down in Antarctica," is a pointless comment.
Or if your kid broke his leg, wouldn't it be on your mind more than your second cousin's kid breaking his leg? I say you can be sad about both. No problem.
It's not like world news is blacked out in America and it's not like we don't have antiwar groups and charites that provide overseas relief.
Is the jungle gym a busted ass jungle gym covered in razor blades?
Well yeah, I wasn't trying to imply that you couldn't.
And world news might as be blacked out. Or news reports on celebrities and other insipid bullshit. See that image of US Time magazine covers compared to the rest of the world's covers. Shit is weak. We have to go to external news sources, or citizen journalists to get a fair and accurate view of real news. That says a few things about a few things.
They also don't have the funding to actually do anything useful. I recently read that they can afford to check on a place once every 138 years. Why would a business even consider paying attention to OSHA rules.
I guess I just answered my own question.
The aforementioned covers. Feel free to look up more. There are a lot of examples out there.
