Breaking news: major news media is shit. This is news?
To a lot of people, yeah. Even people who know that are often surprised by specific examples. Time covers being the most recent example I can think of.
You know it has to be good when I'm posting an ACLU link, but "God's Gospel Lizards"? It might have to be my custom status someday.
so they can segue into how coincidentally this information has been online even before torrents (but they'll focus on torrents) and use it for a justification for things like CISPA.
Its all about the popular narrative.
Like how no one in the popular media has dared to question how easily and joyfully Boston embraced Martial law.
But how many people here are watching all of these news shows and not paying attention to any other sources? Sure, you can show examples some haven't seen but it's just a bunch of preaching to the choir. Nothing is being done and no one feels otherwise, so it's just a circle jerk of appreciating being informed. If nothing else, give some specific sources to at least pretend we're going somewhere with this.
The only time I watch American news is when I'm at work and in someone's apartment who happens to have it turned on, so I don't have a choice for those 5-10 minutes. It's terrible stuff and I feel dumber for watching it, but that's about the extent of my involvement with our news.
This is a different take on it, but on the subject of scary reactions to "news" reporting, a hacked Tweet took $200B from the stock market for a couple minutes today, thanks to automated day traders and hedge funds.
Forced curfews, warrantless searches, police/military on patrol, FIVE GOOOOOLDEN RIIIINGS.
