I was thinking that news around 1968 was pretty unflinching, but I wasn't around then, so I'm not sure how much of the gritty footage we have from that era actually made the evening news.

NYT ran lots of articles on the military in New Orleans after Katrina IIRC. Thing is... the fact is that a large population of Americans have no problem with the military doing these operations on US soil. They are fine with it. And hell if they could find the time to crack some hippie skulls, all the better.
Lay off that. Not everyone that disagrees with you is mentally ill.
Hey, I;m just saying.
When someone presents an idea to you, and you tell them they are wrong because of 1 small detail in the definition of the word that you personally ascribe to, it shows a certain level of social awkwardness. Not being able to understand context or thinking that communication has to be 100% perfect is something autistic kids do.
You have me and Josh saying that thing A is bad. Yoshi says nope because we used a word that only fits the situation like 90% Because of that 10% it isn't bad to him. It has to fit the word perfectly for him to accept it.
That is how socially dysfunctional people think.
It fits the situation 0%. Martial Law is the replacement of civilian authority with military authority. That absolutely did not occur in Boston. Having some troops on site is not even close to Martial Law. Is there a mental illness you can misdiagnose on yourself where a symptom is being wrong? This isn't some opinion discussion where you presented an arguable position. It's black and white.
Easily solved: link an authoritative definition of "martial law" and we'll see if it applies.
Good call, Nick. "Martial law is the imposition of military rule by military authorities over designated regions on an emergency basis."
