The thing with US education is that, like so many other things, it is class-based. If you are upper class, you get a public education on par with Japan and Finland.
If you are middle class you get an education around Germany/Australia.
If you are poor then you get an education that wouldn't even place on that list.
I'd like to argue that on a purely emotional rah rah rah level.
But there is just too much evidence pointing to the fact that it's true.
Poor kids see no value in education. Chebyshev's theorem isn't going to protect them in the environment they're growing up in. In most poor areas, it's thug life or no life.
