That doesn't make me incorrect you argument shifting dumbass.
I heard more about the Chechen Muslims than any other set in High School. It was interesting to see Russia portray them as part of the War on (Arab) Terrorism after 9/11 in the international press, as if to excuse their actions towards them. It worked, apparently!
Arab Muslims were cartoon bad guys on True Lies and what not.
No one in the media is going to say it but we selectively grieve because "we" do not identify with "brown people." And most of "us" do not grieve for the french, but the part of ourselves that we see as french. And we grieve the loss of our own naivety. Like high school kids that grieve for the death of the one teenager that dies each year, that they didn't know. Its less that they feel bad for the dead person or their family. It's that they thought they were invincible yesterday, and now that idea is dead. They realize that they can die. And that is depressing.
Its the same reason we get outraged at extremest destroying non Muslim religious icons in that part of the world. We see those items as part of our cultural identity. As part of our world identity. "We" do not see their murdered neighbors as part of "our" identity.
This is also part of why we don't do anything when bad things happen. Its why we get on social media and post year old pictures, memes, and change the color of our photos in support. No one in France is going to see 99.9% of that shit. It does nothing to solve any of the problems. It just makes "us" feel better. And thats what really matters. Not those dead french people. But that we can get over it by kick off of the next SEC game.
None of you though. I'm sure you're all lovely and you are all deeply moved. I mean in a general sense.
