I don't get this either - show me how Sony has been supporting their online play or downloadable content for the PSP. Megaman: Powered Up? MGS: Portable Ops? How many games among the entire library actually use online over ad-hoc?

Funny that the DS would be the more online-friendly portable, friend code caveats and all.

But I figured I'd just chime in the "so what" camp - a DS port doesn't make the PC version disappear, or destroy the chances of it showing up elsewhere.

It doesn't have the computer-destroying version of Starforce. In other words, the Starforce driver isn't in Nations. My system was fine.

But anyway, the Steam version of United has no copy protection at all, aside from the usual Steam stuff.

I'm not a huge fan of the Desert car but the Coast one is nice. It's obviously handles much more realisticly, which feels very out of place from the rest of the game. I like the change of pace.

In case you're unaware, United is kind of a compilation of the three Trackmania games that came before. The Desert, Rally and Alpine cars are all from the first game, the Coast, Bay and Island cars are from the second (Trackmania Sunrise) and the Stadium car is from Trackmania Nations. Each track type has new construcion blocks in United, which is why the United tracks tend to focus on particular block types. ie. tons of dirt in the Stadium courses, lots of engine-off blocks, etc.

Am I doing something wrong with those track packs from older games? I can access them (by going to "browse") and play them, but it won't let me set official times.

Trackmania Nations doesn't have the Starforce CD-ROM driver, which is the bad part of Starforce. It runs fine in vista and it won't hurt your system.

Think of it like Monkey Ball. It definitely is some trial and error, and a whole lot of precision. It's not really a racing game.

My American Express card was compromised with almost $7k racked up in the last few days (most of it to "IBM RPC," whatever that is, and then like $300 to Walmart and $300 to "Wallace Group" or something like that). I already called my bank and cancelled the card (and hopefully in time so that the asshole thief won't get his stuff).

I bring this up here because the last time I used the card was to buy Trackmania through Steam. If you did the same, you might want to check your statement (or online account if you have one) just in case there's a security hole in Steam.

I use the card for lots of things, though, including most internet purchases, so the number could very well have been pilfered from a few different places. I'm pretty careful though. This is my first time dealing with fraud, and I've been buying online the last eight years or so. My money's on the shady rent-a-car place I used a couple weeks ago. I need a card with a really low limit for risky stuff like that.

Supposedly Valve doesn't store credit card numbers used for Steam transactions so even if it were compromised they wouldn't be able to get that.

True, I have to re-enter my information whenever I buy a game.

Well it had *something* star-force. I fixed it with the star-foce removal tool.

So apparently this looks pretty fucking good after all.
