He talks about why he won't do a hi-res 2D one as well, and his answer is largely correct. hi-res 2D is incredibly difficult and expensive to produce, and only pays if you recycle it a bunch of times (like Guilty Gear).
The Castlevania games have been recycling sprites for ten years, though, at this point. Longer, even. Not to the degree of GG, though, I'll admit.
Sorry. Rhythm games without cool controllers aren't justifying gimmicky 1995 technology.
A great game is a great game. It can't get much more simple than that.
