Trackmania to see releases on other platforms

The series already does exist on a better platform, people. It's existed there for years and will continue to exist there for years, and a DS entry (most likely being made because they figured the track editor would be easy to use on it) isn't going to make them abandon the community they've built up. This isn't a franchise that's been dwindling in popularity for decades like most of the series that have wound up making the DS their new home, so quit bitching and wait the year or two it'll take for the next PC version to come out. And in the meantime, download the thousands of tracks that exist for the current one.

AND me, bVork, and Tain are like the only people that gave a shit about it even then. Trackmania United is like almost perfect, and the downloadable content is bottomless, so it's really hard to feel like you're missing out on something because of a DS game.

Yeah, it seems like the usual crew is looking for another notch in their "DS sucks" belts rather than actually giving a shit about the series that's supposedly being ruined.

Personally, I'm more frustrated by Trackmania's only apparent console entry being on the system least suited to it. I've got no problem with a DS version, but I'm not happy with it being the only non-PC one. A DS version supplementing others has the potential to not be bad at all.

In the meantime, I'll stick to my original wishful thinking- PS3 version with track editor downloadable to PSP, please!

Really, the only platform Trackmania is suited to is the PC. Even relatively simple track editors are irritating to use if you just have a d-pad and a few buttons to work with (the DS has a huge advantage here), and the game is heavily reliant on sharing user-made content, which only the PS3 is remotely suited to.

Basically, any console release of ths series is a fool's errand, and it'd be best if the thing just stayed on the PC which it's perfectly suited for. The DS isn't going to be any worse for it than any other console release would be, but at least it'll be out of the way sooner and take up less of their time.

I thought the free Trackmania was fantastic, one of the coolect racing games around. I have been meaning to buy some games but I'm confused about the various versions, and which boxed copies have Starforce.

That's a pretty easy question to answer- every single version including the free Nations has Starforce in one version or the other, except for Trackmania United. Also, someone at Nadeo or their publisher needs to fall into a meat grinder.

-edit- Trackmania United on Steam, specifically. The boxed copy is infected with Starforce too.

No, Nations doesn't have any form of Starforce you should be worried about (i.e. the driver). It just has encrypted data. I think even the Steam versions of United might have that much. But there's nothing harmful or inconvenient about those implementations.

Also, the one feature of Windows Vista I love is that it's incompatible with the Starforce driver.
