Your top 10 games of 2007 - from any year

Nice idea for a thread.

Zack & Wiki (Wii) - Easily the most pure fun I had with a game all year. I replayed levels just for the experience; to appreciate how cleverly they were designed. The "eureka!" feeling is constant, and the puzzles were never too hard nor too easy. Bravo, Capcom.

Ridge Racer 6 (360) - I hadn't been sucked into a racer like this since my beloved Burnout 2. Pitch-perfect arcade gameplay, with some fantastic tracks.

Bully (PS2) - I'm not a Rockstar fan (actually, I wasn't until playing this), but they nailed the high school experience. The best voice-acting I've ever heard, and the world of Bullworth is one that won't soon be forgotten.

The Red Star (PS2) - Played this for a solid month, beating it multiple times just because it was fun. Co-op was awesome until the glitches killed it.

Resident Evil, 2, 3 (PS1) - Decided I'd masochistically erase my files and unlock everything from scratch. With that done, it'll be a long long time before I play any of these three again.

God of War II (PS2) - Like I mentioned in the GOTY thread, this is the second-best 3D action game I've ever played, outdone only by the original DMC. It's damn close to perfect.

FEAR (360) - Spent....oh man, I don't know how many hours beating this on Extreme without using slo-mo. One of the toughest gaming challenges I've finished, and I'm proud of it. I'm sick of it, though. I can't bring myself to play FEAR Files yet, though I was looking forward to it.

Tomb Raider: Anniversary (PS2) - I approached this with caution, expecting it to be average. I had no idea it would end up as one of my favorites of the year.

Rayman Raving Rabbids (Wii) - My wife wanted this for her Wii. I ended up getting captured by the clever insanity. We spent many hours playing this together, and she's getting the sequel for Xmas. :)

Bioshock (360) - The game isn't perfect. Whatever. Rapture is the best fantasy game world I've ever experienced, by a long shot.

Despite the Wii and 360, my PS2 got the most play by far. And I recently started FFXII....who says it's a dead platform!

1. Super Mario Galaxy (Wii)

Nothing really needs to be said about this one.

2. Gears of War (Xbox 360)

Played this obsessively for most of January; I had my doubts going in (what with the hype and all) but it's a masterpiece. The cover mechanic has been done before but it's never been this much fun to use. Hopefully the inevitable sequels keep upping the bar.

3. Halo 3 (Xbox 360)

The single player campaign was lacking but the multiplayer is endless fun. Methodical and vicious at the same time, perfect.

4. MLB Power Pros (Wii)

My first time with the long-running Japanese series and I now understand what all the fuss was about. The return of the skill-based batting cursor and the greatest create-a-player mode ever conceived make this a winner.

5. Psychonauts (Xbox)

Finally sat down with it this year on 360 and it owned me for a few days. One of the best 3d platformers ever made, up there with Mario 64 and Galaxy.

6. Puzzle Quest (PC)

So addictive...

7. Resident Evil 4 (Wii)

I played and loved this game on GameCube two years ago and the revamped Wii controls made it new all over again.

8. Guitar Hero 2 (Xbox 360)

The game that rekindled my love of guitars and got me back into real ones.

9. KOTOR (Xbox)

Another Xbox game I finally got around to spending some quality time with thanks to the 360 BC. It deserves all the hype it's been getting for years. One of those extremely rare Star Wars games that actually feels like Star Wars.

10. Wii Sports (Wii)

The go-to party game of 2006 was the go-to party game of 2007.

For me, this was a game with a ton of really cool ideas that in the end just wasn't very fun to play. Needlessly difficult at times, they made you spend a lot of time wandering around long, empty halls, and it too often deviated into just being a mediocre fps. And Attack of the Fishmen was wayyy too long.

That said, the two parts you mentioned - escaping your hotel room and the crazy sequence with the Shoggoth were truly memorable, as was the family with the tragic "thing locked in the attic" sequence. The insanity meter was great, the fact that you started whispering suicidal thoughts, hearing voices, and having hallucinations if you saw too many messed up things was some pretty incredible design. Really nice graphics on 360 BC, too.

I discovered Three Wonders on the PSP Classics Collection, that's truly a forgotten classic. Marvelous animation, brilliant colours and really smooth controls. It was probably the main characters that did the game in, they don't really stand out. But this is a game that should be talked about more than it is.

I am still waiting for my Cantolpop Alan Tam, Jackie Cheung and Andy Lau song pack. What the hell is wrong with Harmonix? :D

Top games this year:

Oblivion (360): I played the hell out of this game and the expansion. It was fun all the way through except for the end when you have to go through like ten Oblivion gates. Well worth 60 dollars.

Portal (360): Suprised me, since I was just going to give it a try, then I ended up beating it in two days. I never used a faq and I was so satisfied at the end. It's one of the funniest games I have ever played.

Bioshock (360): I don't know why this game is getting backlash all of a sudden, it looks awesome, has style for days, and is extremely polished. The story was great but the ending was a bit short.

Mass Effect (360): I am almost done with this game and it has kept me obsessed. It could have used some extra tweaking but they can always patch it later. Great writing and voice acting too.

Call of Duty 4 (360): I don't even care for war games and I loved this game. It was the most exciting single player experience ever.

Halo 3 (360): I have never been a big Halo fan, and I still don't understand/care what is going on with the story. Multiplayer is fun as hell, made even better when you play with your friends. Co-op is a blast too.

All these games are 360, weird.

Next year will be all PS2, DS, and PSP since that will be all I have access to while I am deployed for six months. I will be taking care of my Pile of Shame.

I played these on the PSP as well a few weeks ago. Really fun games, like happy Metal Slug.

I doubt I played ten games in 07. I'm not into the new stuff. I've played a 360 for all of five minutes this year. I saw a Wii at a couple of friends' houses before and I have never even seen a PS3 in real life. So here's what I can remember playing:

Resident Evil (GC) Totally delivers, I'm impressed. Finished Chris's now I need to play Jill's.

Persona (PS1) Started out totally awesome but the "story" devolved into pathetic gobbledygook that wouldn't even fly in anime. Which caused the last 25% or more to be tedium from hell.

Outrun 2006 Coast 2 Coast (Xbox) The best racing game since Neo DriftOut. THis game received roughly one billion hours of play after I built my Xbox RGB cable.

Dialhex (GBA) One of the more enjoyable puzzle games I've ever played.


As far as I can remember that's literally everything I played in 2007.
