FX Neo

As a long time stoner and gamer I had heard for years about the mythical "Japanese eyedrops" that are unlike any other. I had heard everything from tales of magical elixir to pure poison and was curious to know more about them. The descriptions from more level headed people were always pretty similar. They sting quite a bit at first and make one's eyes water profusely but within 10-30 seconds the stinging sensation turns to this blissful cool thing as if someone has put your eyeballs on ice. Plus they make any eye white as snow in seconds.

It took years before I found someone who actually owned these things. When I first tried them it was pretty intense. They're basically as described above. I had never bothered with alot of eyedrops because regular ones never did much for me. So between the real life sensation of pain (for ten seconds) and relative inexperience I was pretty worried. Then that faded and the cool thing set in. I was hooked. While Kaneda was in Tokyo I commissioned him to get me a six pack and had another friend do the same.

Getting other people to try these things is great fun. Everybody without exception is weirded out by the sensation at first. 99% of everybody can easily get past that and agree that the cool part is pretty fucking rad. But the occasional sensationalist will flip the fuck out and start jumping around like a toddler in line for the bathroom and screaming about "MOTHERFUCKER MOTHERFUCKER I'M BLIND YOU FUCKING POISONED ME OH NOES" and stuff like that.

After several years of being on the Neo I've noticed numerous faux "minty eyedrops". Do not be fooled. These things are tenderfoot material and do not provide any of the fun or good feeling of the real FX Neo.

I'd ask bbobb first if he's willing to do those kinds of favors. They're Y380 at the store in Japanland but the least I've seen them for online was at jlist and they were like $14 EACH. Forget about that.

That sounds insane. I am intrigued.

Never had these, but Rohto is another Japanese company that makes killer eyedrops readily available in the US. Most CVS stores at least carry the "Cool" variety with the green lid, and I found "Ice" at the Walmart near me in PA. They also feel like chemical burns until you get used to it (and then you learn to like it) and you get the same "somebody whitewashed your eyes" look.

A cop has never fucked with somebody for their eyes being too white. Highly recommended.

Rohto is miles and miles from the real thing.

If the "real thing" is FX Neo, sure. If the "real thing" is Japanese eyedrops, well... no.

For under $6, they'll do the job. They still feel great, and I bet the Arctic variety (haven't found it yet) is awesome.

The real thing is FX Neo. I put "Japanese eyedrops" in quotes in the openeing post because I never knew the name of the real thing until it was in my hand. I've tried the Arctic, the Ice and the shit with the pink cap and none of it stacks up. Having run out of the FX before I've tried everything you can get off the shelf in the states. I think the real thing may be too brutal for the FDA. Even Japanese grocery store chains in the USA like Uwajimaya don't carry FX Neo.

They should put "Too brutal for the FDA!" on the package. In English. I can't think of anyone who wouldn't want that.

If I can find a method of trying these I will do so ASAP.

They'd have a line around the corner at every Walgreen's with a tagline like that on the package. They'd also immediately change the name for the states to Neo FXtreme!!! for the Mountain Dew type crowd.

I've never heard of these eyedrops. Maybe I'll stop by the drugstore and check them out. The question is can you use them with contacts? Because that's why I don't usually use eyedrops, most of the good ones bother contacts.

I use them with contacts all the time and they work great. Definitely the best eye dropper in town.

I can't remember when the last time I used eye drops was, but I want these.

Yes, but from what I can infer, the kick is that they make your eyes white in seconds, which can be a god send for anyone who gets baked and has to go out in public. Just because you're baked doesn't mean you want your eyes and fingers to blow your cover.

That's a bit oversimplified but it certainly puts a nice chill on at the end. It will bring the power users and coreass gamers back from the depths of eyestrain despair in a flash. It can also be a bit of a pick me up when one feels sleepy. I no longer sit in front of a computer very much and I don't game a whole lot either. So for me the FX is to keep my eyes looking good or just a pleasant little sensation to go along with getting baked. In summary, FX Neo is a whitener, brightener, waker upper, cooler offer and total eyestrain mutilator.

I'm glad KAneda weighed in on contacts. I always tell people that wear contacts to try at their own risk. I've never had the things and have no clue about that stuff.

After looking at the site that Yeller linked I can say that I have not tried everything that Rohto makes. At least not currently. At the time I last had Rohtos (3 years ago?) my buddy and I went to the drugstore and bought all three types. There was one with a bluegreenish cap, one with a dark blue cap and one with a pink or red cap. I'm pretty sure the blueish ones were called Ice and/or Arctic but both were pretty weak and neither looked like that Ice one on the website. I have to wonder if they've stepped up their game to compete with the FX. If I see the Ice ones at Walgreens I'll buy a bottle.

Just bought a bottle of Rohto ice. It's definitely the zippiest eyedrop I've purchased over the counter but it doesn't really do the trick. Neither the initial mulekick to the eyeball nor the residual hypercooling effects are really present here. If FX Neo is a 10 these are a 7-8.

This is what I wanted to hear. At the same time, I'm worried that this is a slippery slope and eventually after trying FX Neo, I'll get hooked, and soon they won't be enough either and then I'm going to have to start pouring Listerine into my eyes and rubbing ice on them.

Nothing beats firing a can of compressed air upside down into your retina IMO.

LOL! But yes, if you're an eyedrops person you will certainly become addicted. I was never very interested in eyedrops these things are literally eye openers. Literally. Like 4 reals.

Alright, I'm curious. I'm going to go try out some Roetoe's and see if I like this or not. Then I might just make that step up. :D

Here is what I DON'T like about Rohto. The stinging part never really goes all the way away. FX definitely bites a little harder at first but it turns to cold joy within 30 seconds at the most. Last night I noticed that my eyes were bugging me several minutes after doing the Rohto so I waited it out for about another 15 and it never went away. So I hit the FX and was back to normal.

Now that I have slightly longer term impression I'm going to knock the Ice down to a 6-7. If you try this stuff and don't like it be sure to not think that that is what FX Neo is like.

I was thinking about the FX Neos today when I was looking for eyedrops, and I remembered that a while ago in Chinatown I saw those "Lycee" girly-looking Japanese eyedrops. I never thought anything of them at the time because I didn't know what kind of stuff those guys like to put in their eyes then. Leads me to believe other varieties should be readily available, so I'm pretty optimistic.

Anyway, I think that stinging may or may not be a problem with the Ice. They have an additional ingredient that the green cap "Cool" ones don't, and I remember not liking them quite as much, though I couldn't put my finger on why. I still feel refreshed after using them, but there's definitely a sort of an unpleasant "cleanser" thing going on. I don't have either on hand in PA, so when I was hitting up the pharmacy I looked for the Cool, but all I could find was Ice. We need to all start posting our thoughts on these products immediately so we can compile a TNL eyedrop review database. This is important to me.

I could never find the Arctic Rohtos. They've always sounded exciting.

I usually shop at the Cleveland Circle one, never seen them there. When I get back in town, I am doing the hell out of this.

Ok, testing now... it comes with a little poster. The bottle is slightly smaller than I expected.

WOAH. That's weird! Kind of a "WOOSH" sensation. Tearing up like a James Blunt fan.

My eyes were feeling a bit strained from sitting in a tiny movie theater for the last two hours. After a few minutes, the "cool" sting has gone away almost completely, and now my eyes aren't as tired by a long shot. Neat!

Definitely a lot less red, too. Still a little bit, but down from normal levels. Note that I'm not a stoner, just an insomniac-animator. Red eyes are pretty normal, lots of eye strain on monitors.

I just got some FX Neo during my lunch break. They're a bit more expensive then Pacrappa thought, they were 700 yen. I'm too nervous to try them at work though, I'm going to wait till I get home just in case they bother my contacts.

Don't forget you bake potent THC while most of TNL hits mexican buttweed, that could be the issue. Also, FX Neo works, I tried it when I was there. It initially feels like someone rams a spicy icecube in your eye (best way I can describe it) but the results are awesome. It will be off the shelf by next year, stock up now.

Semi-related: I got Tiger Balm on my nuts once. It was like getting kicked in them for a good number of minutes. You always figure something like that will be bad, but you never really can be sure until it happens.

The eyes are cooled by the evaporation of the contacts.

Even the Rohtos warn against this, but I've never had a problem using them with contacts. I think they just want to cover their asses in case your eyes freeze solid and smash into a million ice crystals when you try to blink.

LOL yeah probably. But they have those Rohto Zi ones that say they're made for Soft Contacts and they're supposed to be stronger then the FX Neo's.

"...drops are also not advised for contact lens wearers as decreased blood flow to the surface of the eye will further lower the levels of oxygen available to the eye." This is due to the tetrahydrozoline hydrochloride "anti-redness" chemicals.

I know several people that use the FX with contacts no problem.

These eyedrops are going to ruin my life, I know it. I just checked the box and thought "gee, I've only used this twice today, I can manage another hit before bed and still be under the limit".

Went to a bigger drug store on my way home. They had all the Rohto Zi ones. I picked up the Contact ones and just tried em. Honestly they didn't hurt too bad, but holy shit do my eyes feel so incredible right now. It's like someone put ice directly under my eyelid... fucking awesome.

Gonna try the FX Neo later to see if they hurt more.

Also they were cheaper at the larger drug store. FX Neo are 399, Rhoto Zi Free and Contacts are 799.

I don't smoke, but red eyes do suck. I'd be down for a group buy, if bbobb is willing.

Yeah, the Rohto Zi Contacts that are rated a 6 are nothing compared to the FX Neos... holy shit those things sting. Although I actually enjoyed the cooling feel of the soft contact ones better. The neo's make my eyes feel cool, the Rohto Zi made my eyes feel like they were ice.

We can try to figure out the best way to do a group buy. Who wants to organize it in the US?
