Benazir Bhutto Assassinated
Okay.
As I was saying: the Bhutto assassination draws into sharp relief the problem of the United States' continued support of Pervez Musharraf. Since 9/11, the US has financially supported Musharraf directly, to the tune of $10 billion since 2001.
Most of this money is completely unaudited and untraceable, sent through various cash transfers. It's literally "no strings attached" money. Ostensibly this is money to be used for antiterrorism efforts (hunting Bin Laden, border security, etc.). But it's plainly obvious that this money supports Musharraf's dictatorship, and allows him to stay in power.
Now I don't want to jump the gun here, but I think it's pretty likely that Musharraf is behind the assassination. Isn't it time we stopped handing him planeloads of cash to do as he pleases?
