I do love that all the Pat's fans waited until the Cowboys and the Colts were out of the Superbowl race to chime in en masse in this thread ;).
Except for ARBM's rightful anger that the Jax 16 NE 13 post lol.

Nah, it'd boring, it's the same raft of security-blanket excuses every year. "The salary cap is for gay communists and the only Super Bowls that ever counted were the ones the Cowboys won in the 90s." "Everybody's a huge loser except the team that won the Superbowl (except that doesn't count anymore because of complaint 1), but it doesn't matter if my team went 7-9 and another made the Conference Finals, it's exactly the same!"
Fortunately everyone else knows it's better to go deep in the playoffs than to get eliminated in week 10, that the players are bigger & faster than they were back before the salary cap, and the sport has generally grown more sophisticated with better training methods and better gameplanning and analysis. Playbooks are nearly twice as big. They couldn't watch individual film breakdowns of every individual player back in those days, the tv coverage wasn't as extensive.
Plus, the high school & college feeder systems have grown more intense, these players have spent their whole lives focused on football with access to training facilities, nutrition advice and year-round coaching it was impossible to grow up with before. And these guys all grew up playing Madden so they've known different offensive & defensive sets from their teenage years. When I played most players barely understood more than 3 formations (I, wishbone & spread or 3 receiver) and knew jack about the various plays except where they had to go as individuals. On my high school team we used a grand total of three defensive formations - 4-3, dime & goal line, and only the guys who were really hardcore football heads knew anything more than that. The modern Patriots would beat the shit out of the 90s Cowboys/80s Niners for all those reasons & more.
Um. What. The fuck.

The New York Post hired Lynsey Nordstrom, a 21-year-old nanny and Jessica Simpson lookalike, to play Simpson at Texas Stadium Sunday.
Nordstrom dressed up like Simpson with a pink Tony Romo shirt and acted like her in the stands. "I knew we were going to win when I saw her. I'm dead serious!" said Anthony Triglia, of Staten Island. "You have to come to Green Bay!" Nordstrom was taken aback. "What's Green Bay?" she pondered.
I was posting in this thread the whole game
Any comparison of different decades requires that you compare based on the type of players and systems of the time. Otherwise, the most recent team is always the best, simply because of the reasons you gave. While the players of today are bigger and faster on every team, the talent is significantly more watered down due to expansion and the salary cap.
