Kinect is utter horse shit and it's sad that Microsoft was able to buy their way into manufactured interest. The games are all terrible (ALL terrible, Mzo) and the thing needs a concert hall to work properly in. I guess even this terrible economy is not enough to undo the powers of hype and lots of ads.
Stupid people always want the next new thing, esp. what commercials tell them to buy. And stupid people is a huge market in the US, much like the pedophile market is in Japan, and Europe is full of weirdos, hence their love of Sony continually shitting on them.
I played a good few hours with Kinect yesterday; my friend picked it up. The two games we played were Kinect Adventures (Not bad, not great) and Dance Central (Awesome). The distance requirement is not that big of a deal and we had a good time with it. I'm still not personally sold on it, but a bundle with Dance Central and about $50 off the price would be very tempting.
I think the biggest thing for me is that the games I give a shit about wouldn't be improved by this control type and any RPG, FPS or Fighter that tries to use this is going to feel sloppy and clunky. I mean fuck, who out there liked playing Smash Bros or Zelda with the Wii controls? No one, and that's why most games allowed you to use the GC controller and new shit like 007 actually comes with a normal controller.
This is the worst fucking shit since the PSP Go.
I think there are some cool functions that the Kinect could bring to the table, although it probably never will. Still, even as just a party gimmick, I was having a good time with the thing.
I tried out Kinect Adventures the other day and thought it was pretty much garbage. Everything about the kinect feels clunky and is 100% better done with a controller. I say a big fuck you to Nintendo for making motion controls such a big deal.
