sorry to hear that.
I have a question guys.
Some games that I have aren't showing a picture under the My Xbox blade while some do...how can I fix this?
Some games don't have images. Wartech was one that just had the tiny icon. I don't think all the older games have them.
That's really annoying. I just popped in Grid and noticed it...could have swore that it had one before.
xbox live might just be kinda slow, since it downloads all those images each time the console starts up and that part of the dashboard is active... it happens to me all the time (esp. with xbla games and in the friends list)
Who fucking cares?
Obviously, he does.
It happens to me too. When it happens to me, the entire dashboard is flaky. It's slow non-responsive. I end up rebooting the console and that usually fixes it for me.
NXE is all sorts of slow all over the place. It's dumb.
It would be fantastic if we had the option to run the original dash. The hang ups in the NXE are regoddamndiculous.
Haven't had any problems with mine.
Mine is really slow. It's most noticeable when going to the guide while in game (i.e. to invite, etc). It'll basically be frozen for 10 seconds or so, with the inability to even cancel, and then go to the guide. It's pretty annoying. But having netflix far outweighs any shortcomings of the NXE.
That's really weird, I wonder if it caches more if you have more HD space free. I have the 120gig HD now with about 80 gigs left, it doesn't pause for long to do anything.
I have the 120 gig as well, with about 70gig free, and it has all the aforementioned problems.
I'm thinking that maybe because there is no way to defrag a 360 hard drive, that it is taking forever to search for the appropriate data? Probably not, but I don't know what else to theorize...
I have had this dumbass problem for a while now. I have yet to find a solution on the internet. My profile is large (25 MB I think) and I have a lot of friends in my list. I'm not sure why the core files would be heavily fragmented everywhere because you don't ever get any more of them...I know that part of the NXE is now on the HD, so maybe that's the fragmented part.
Frigging annoying. I am sure a lot of people have this problem but they can't find fixes either. But waiting 15 seconds for my guide to close or to get to the next option in it (such as sending a message, etc) every time/every other time I open the guide is ANNOYING.
My profile is on a MU. I wonder what would happen if I removed the HD...
My internet is 6megabit down, 1.5 megabit up.
It's the fastest one AT&T DSL provides.
And Joust summed up the exact problem I'm having. It really is that annoying.
I haven't looked for any solutions on the internet because I'm lazy, but thanks for telling me I won't find any. That saves me the hassle.
I haven't had any issues with it being slow or anything...I just wish every damn game had an icon when you load it in the tray. It annoys the hell out of me.
I never said it was worse, Fuck-face.
It's the hard drive.
I couldn't connect to Live with my puny 64 MB card, but I do have a new 60 GB from my JPN unit. I was able to do everything fine. Put the old drive back in and the menus were back to ass. So...I dunno how you fix it. My HD is almost full but not like FULL FULL. Plus I know people that have the problem with HDs with a lot more free space than this.
I don't want to delete all my non-save content to find out...I have every XBLA demo and several installs on here, lol. If you want to try it though...I don't know what else to do. Clearing the cache does not fix it (well, didn't for me). I suppose I can look a bit harder on Google or try calling them but I am sure both avenues will lead to nothing.
Okay, well that sucks. Since I have the 120gig, there's nothing I can upgrade to. Let me know if you find out, because it's so bad on my system that going to the guide in game is suicide in games that respawn. I haven't been playing enough recently try to look for a fix on my own.
I tried clearing the HD Cache, we'll see if it does any good. Here's how to do it:
Go to the system blade and then select memory.
Press Y on the HD symbol and then press X,X,Left Bumper, Right Bumper, X,X. Once you do this a messsage will appear saying: Do you want to perform maintenance on your Xbox 360 storage devices?
Performing this function will also clear any software updates. You can always re-download any updates.
Despite what I said earlier, I went on a few other forums that had people talking about the same issue, and they said clearing the cache didn't help the lag. Let me know if it does any good for you, and if it does, I'll give it a shot. But it seems to me that the consensus is, the hdd's that make NXE slow are either fragmented or on their deathbed.
Deathbed? Don't tell me the HDs in these things die. It's bad enough with the console constantly shitting the bed.
Well, not die, but I suppose it could get so fragmented, without any way to defrag, that it essentially becomes useless. And since it's mechanical, theoretically it could die (although 360s aren't usually abused to the point of damaging the hdd).
Its a hard drive...it will fail eventually.
Blades, pictures, and windows are fine for me, but lists of items take forever to come up. For example, anything under "featured downloads" or "all downloads" will take like 10-30 seconds to show up.
My HD failing was actually the cause of my RRoD.
The hdd has nothing to do with a gpu failing.
A universal fix for all things related to games should involve blowing into the problematic item - ala a NES cartridge.
I tried it with the HDD and it didn't help :(
Sweet, now my X360 is probably either dying or dead. Now it likes to hang from within five seconds to five minutes of usage, and it randomly throws up E71 errors on boot. I figured it was a Dashboard update error (due to the way NXE streams data), but I tried clearing the update cache on boot and that has not solved shit.
Ugh.
This might be a really good time to go back and finish Valkryia Chronicles.
Fake fake edit: Now it throws up the RRoDs. Well, that confirms that, at least. Time to see if I can do some bootleg fix myself, and barring that, it's on to getting this shit repaired. Yayorz.
My new 360 has an odd problem. When I turn it on for the first time, it lights up but nothing happens. It just sits there and won't connect to a controller. Though if I shut it off, and turn it right back on, it comes up fine. Kind of annoying, but it would be a huge pain in the ass to replace it again.
I forgot about this. -_-
First time I tried it, it kept returning 0001, which means the PSU died. Of course I happen to have a spare one on hand (lolz) and swapped it, and now it alternates between 0101 and 0103, which is a variation of the common RRoD error.
Fun stuff, this. :|
Has anybody had RROD problems, or other serious problems, with the Jaspers?
give it some time, people said the falcons were invulnerable to rrod too but lo & behold they were...
My new Xephyr 360 is at least going to be pretty quiet until it RRODs after a few years.
You're a jerk. :(
Oh sure, kill the messenger!
Yeah. Nothing happens on the console (none of the ring lights up, just the dot at the center), and the lights keep flashing on the controller. If it was a PC, I would say it's getting hung before it launches into the OS. Strange is it only does it the first time I start it on that day. Then it's good for the rest of the day.
Call tech support LOL
FYE has a $100 rebate on the Elite if anyone looking to pick one up:
Deal
Rebate form
There are some other rebates for games and other systems too but that is the best deal imo.
sucks.
Yeah, good thing I have a backup.
TWO 360s!
Is that what he meant?
Thank you Yoshi.
I lol'd.
I have 2 as well. One on my shelf in the basement in case my elite get's broked.
I have two.
*Knock out a huge ass piece of wood in my pants*
I still have my original unit.
This post has been brought to you by the letter X, the number 360, and the color red.
I got 1 360. I also have unprotected sex.
Melody believes this news.
How's Inara? You should post some pics of her.
...absolutely!
He can have the title, I just want the pics.
Rocking the 2 Xbox household as well. 1 in the TV room, 1 in the bedroom as a media player/netflix box.
I think that is a fantastic idea wildmeow. I'm going to make that a project tonight.
Hmm... Try to send my 360 to Microsoft or swing it around by the cords and smack it into a steel post? Decisions, decisions...
I blame all the talk in the Raiden III thread for my 360 dying today. Everything was perfectly fine until you guys made me think "You know, I've had that 360 for a while without a hint of trouble."
-edit- Viking funeral it is. I've got the box right here, all the paperwork, little plastic baggies, and useless extras inside, and not a sign of the receipt anywhere. Why do I have the box cluttering up my apartment if there's no receipt inside? I've no idea.
James
You don't need the receipt. Manufacture date or repair date is more than enough.
We have 2 as well.
1 Elite for me to play murder simulators on, and 1 Arcade so that my 7y.o. can build some lego shit and play banjo kazoo
What did the update fix?
Well, my Xbox 360 died two weeks ago.
However, even though the zboz died, it would not be killed.

FUCK YOU JOBU^H^H^H^HMICROSOFT I FIX IT MYSELF
So yeah, it seems to work now! This guide was a huge help; it walks you through replacing the clamps that keep the heatsink in place, install some spacers to reduce board flexing, and re-thermal the heatsinks. I also made a modification to the airflow shroud for more efficient airflow, and installed a new 13v fan
Two things you learn from this exercise: they do a terrible job of thermal compound coverage on the heatsinks (coverage was nowhere near 100% as it should be), and the X-Clamps that keep the heatsinks in place are a terrible idea and at this point any further designs with them still in use border on criminally negligent.
Of course, nothing ever goes right the first time...

Oops.
Over/under on how long this thing lasts?

Once in a blue moon, browsing GAF actually pays off.
Fuck!
I missed the boat. You can't purchase them now.
Yeah they pulled it :(
Won't they just cancel these like they usually do?
I got the code immediately at checkout, they're not being mailed.
You get the code when you buy it. They can't.
Word. Last time I ordered from them it was an XBL sub card and not points. Cool that they do it this way.
Yeah, I posted this in the XBLA thread but I guess it's worth repeating here: You can now buy or gift XBLA games and point cards through Amazon.com. It will give you a code that will be instantly viewable and redeemable.

FUCK NOT AVAILABLE!
There you have it folks, Ramon was gracious enough to reenact his latest experience with the fairer sex.
Ramon: "Fuck?"
Tha Ladies: "Not available."
If you ask enough, one is bound to say yes.
It's like, a mathematical law or some shit, right?
Law of inevitability and probability. But in some instances, the sample size N has to be extremely large (like in the order of millions).
A pool of five is normally my best.
Has this been mentioned already? : http://majornelson.com/archive/2009/...om-amazon.aspx
Buying/gifting XBL games directly from Amazon sounds pretty cool. I like that you can just buy the game instead of having to get a set number of points that you don't even need.
Will you be taxed for it?
There were no tax when I bought 1600 pts card from Bestbuy store....
