I thought I told you to shut up!
I was accepted to the early release too. DOWNLOADING NOW :)
I got in on this update too but it wasn't very kind in announcing it's presence. Whilst in the midst of an epic horde battle with my gears brethren, Live decided to rape me of my pleasures and insert said update without choice.
So are there any deals on these 60gb and 120gb hard drives around now? My 20gb is full with just map packs and marvel, and id like to have more then 1 game installed.
I got in the preview too. Apparently being black and Japanese didn't exclude my little guy.
I got it last night too, never got an email about it so it was a sweet surprise. The Netflix upgrade is greatly appreciated and the dashboard is still really fast for me. It actually seems faster in loading achievement icons and stuff when looking through the game library.
I just finally registered today. Sounds like I'm not missing much, though.
where do you register?
Did you check your butt?
Also, here: http://majornelson.com/archive/2009/...am-update.aspx
Just got in on the preview, unfortunately it doesn't seem like it changed shit for japanese live really. The dash does seem to run faster though.
Oh wait, Community Games was added to Japan so that's new, we'll see how many doujin shooters we get now.
So. This 360 thing?
Pretty great.
I'm not used to the big pushable button on the center of the control that ruins entire rounds of Street Fighter just yet, but I'm still sorting it out. :D

Do yourself a favor ! If you don't like sticks, the SF4 six button controllers are nice as well !
Eewwwwww that stick is horrible.
It is done!
Friend me fool.
What games have you gotten?
Just SF4 right now. It is a Gorilla's Luncheon of Entertainment!
Doing Left4Dead next.
I'll beat you down in some SF4.
We find out, yes?
Yes plz.
Got into the NXE update beta. The more time I spend with the dash, the more I realize it's still a cluttered mess.
Yeller needs a mic and and a HD.
I agree with both those things!
You can solve this problem, today even.
Hard drive coming in the mail next week! I'll grab a headset when I pick up Left4Dead. Or if I find myself at Microcenter this weekend.
What is it about giant glowing balls that makes yeller want to touch them?
The world my never know.
"Did I just hit jump-----fuuuuck."
Fun times though, your cammy was really throwing me for a loop there at the beginning but I was starting to get a handle on it there after a while.
Still hate that goddamn cannon spike though.
GG with Blanka, he's a tricky sort!
Smart move with the ex vertical ball against the Hooligan, there. It was fun flipping in and throwing you out of nowhere there for a bit. Adaptation! :D
Si I got into the update preview! Installed last night and everything ran fast!
Then I go to play today, and my console won't even turn on. Bricked.
I swear, that's it. I'm done with this fucking piece of shit. I've never seen such garbage hardware in my life. Fuck MS.
fucking lol
Puerto Rico... humid?
I really want to know what the hell Melf is doing with those things.
My seven month-old 360 RROD, and this one is the replacement. It's barely 2 months-old. So that makes 4 360s in 2 years.
It's in a dry, well-aired place, alongside a half dozen other consoles, all of which work fine and have for years.
Playing them, which is obviously more than the POS can handle.
Happy Birthday From MS!
Lol, right?
Ok, I call MS and bam! The damn thing turns on. I know I had my cables connected correctly and all, since I was playing the fucking thing just last night and did nothing different. To make sure, I made the operator document my call and give me a reference number, and I told her I'll probably be calling her again sometime soon.
I sincerely hope to God that MS takes a fucking bath on repairs. Seriously, like, ends up in needing-a-federal-bailout financial straits. Fucking garbage company.
I pressed the guide button, hit the power button on the console, and pressed the eject button. Everything was dead. The power brick was orange, and Ali Baba at Xbox support told me that meant the console wasn't being detected. That's weird, because that's the color it always is when the console is plugged in but turned off, no?
I guess my 360 got scared when it saw I was on the line with MS, so it behaved. Like I said, I made them document my call with a reference number, so it'll be on record when - not if - this turd machine breaks down.
Honestly, I can't believe there's not a class action lawsuit or at the very least a Recall from MS. Its been documented and everything.
Self fulfilling prophecy you pessimistic fuck.
Q: is your "background downloads continue when system is off" setting turned on?
Yes, yes it is.
I know why it gave me problems! BECAUSE YELLERDOG DIDN'T ACCEPT MY FRIENDS REQUEST. My 360 am sad.
!!!!
edit: fixed!
ANYhow I'd say turning the background-when-off downloads "OFF", particularly considering you're in a beta and there's all kinds of funkified signals going to your machine without your permission, no doubt.
Ah, good idea! I'll do that. That could have been what funkified things today.
Can you dig it, sucka?
Maybe MS is trying to tell Melf not to play games so goddamned much. I mean......70K as a gamerscore?
And yes....I know the brothers Mog are much worse.
None of the TNL scores are that impressive when you see some of the real leaders'.
Impressive isn't the word I would use.
Just discovered that the HDMI equiped 360s can't use anything BUT HDMI to output audio because the adapter is too close to the standard adapter. Fuck.
That's not true
You just need to get the right cables.
To output audio I bought a cheap (about $5) used MadCatz 360 component cable at Gamestop. It has far less extra plastic around the sides of the system connector than the ridiculous cable that comes with the 360.
Next you need a HDMI cable with as little extra plastic around the connector as possible. I use one from Monoprice.com, which costs around $4 and has excellent picture quality.
The two plug into the system side-by-side quite nicely. I spent less than $10 to get the same functionality MS charges you $50 for.
The other option is to mutilate the casing around the component cable that came with your system, but that didn't seem like a great idea to me.
Yeah and it cost you $50 to get the Microsoft HDMI cable and adapter, which is an absolute rip-off.
Ever wonder why the MS component connector is so big? To intentionally cover the HDMI out and make you think you need the audio adapter.
No one -- ever -- should spend more than $5 on a HDMI cable.
Are you fucking crazy? The original 360 didn't have HDMI and the cable was exactly the same. You can accuse MS of being lazy in not redesigning the cable for the one in a hundred thousand people who might have this problem, but profiteering is absurd. They shouldn't have bothered with the adaptor.
But then he wouldn't have anything to bitch about.
Many people have older amps etc they want to hook up while getting a HDMI picture. If you think that's rare, it's you who's crazy.
Facts:
1. MS designed the HDMI 360 with the HDMI port right next to the component port.
2. They knew that the component cables would block the HDMI port.
3. They designed an adapter to allow you to plug in both, and mass produced it in a bundle with a $4 HDMI cable. This sells as the only first party 360 HDMI cable for the low, low price of $50.
Profiteering?
Get your head out of your ass man.
So you're hooking up RCA while using HDMI to watch? Might be time for a new amp imho.
Me? No I'm using optical for audio. As for whats been suggested I've taken an older component hookup and taken the casing off of it. As I'm at work I'll have to wait to see if it's workable.
That's not even vaugely funny or even ironic or anything. That doesn't even work as a non sequitur.
That doesn't even work as a 'too soon'.
to his credit, this spammer is really fast.
I'm just as fucking fast.
Everytime I pounce to delete you already did it.
edit: get 'em!
He called you a gay, Chux.
I need ip controls, holy shit.
Just cuz I know you're all holding your breath in suspense, I'll update yous. The operation was a success. Win. Thanks for heaping immediate scorn on that comment I made yesterday.
Anyone else having Netflix troubles today?
No.
Live was being fhonky about signing in today, so who knows.

Games on Demand was just added for those of you in the preview.
It's pretty shite though, the games are all more than you can easily get them for used.
Shocking news!
anyone have a transfer kit? mine didnt come with one (like i figured)
Yeah im gonna need a transfer kit, as soon as you can.
I did some close inspection of this hdd and its definitely a modded knock off. 120GB HDDs specifically mention it on the underside of the casing, this one does not, seems like its a 20gb gutted and a 120gb hdd thrown in. Theres a japanese RE5 demo in it. Chrome is missing form the outside trimming too, and it seems flimsy.
Thus begins, the task of getting my damn refund for it. Once that goes down im gonna track down a legit and just swallow the damn huge premium for them.
edit: hurrah i call them at a manhattan number and they call me back from a rhode island number....
.... ugh.
lolol
Let me guess... you found one with a price that was too good to be true, but bought it anyway?
Is it possible to back up your 360 game saves on a USB drive/PC?
don't think so, only memory cards
Fuck yourself, it's a yellow card for lols.
Carding idiocy is a feature imo.
Right? Also it was pirated goods, and you were promoting it.
Doesn't whining about cards get cards?
"Encouraging Others to Violate Copyright Laws"
more like "Encouraging others not to buy shitty chinese knock-off components"
p.s. flash your xbox 360s card that you fat beast
edit: p.p.s. is that new dashboard worth installing while my rig is offline
You reversed it! His baby tears got to you.
Soft Admin imo.
I didn't reverse it I just looked at it
Somebody reversed it. Anger!
IT'S BACK, HOORAY
http://g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/69....html#readmoreQuote:
Microsoft has never issued a fully satisfying answer about why Xbox Live, almost four years after the launch of Xbox 360, cannot support more than 100 friends. The company has blamed it on technical obstacles related to the original Xbox Live architecture. It's simpler than that. The real reason you can't have more than 100 friends on Xbox Live is because of Bungie. Specifically, Halo 2.
The continued community support behind Halo 2 is the only reason Microsoft hasn't ditched the lingering ancient Xbox Live architecture, a high-level Microsoft source confirmed to me late last week.
The original Xbox Live was not designed to support more than 100 friends. That's no problem for the Xbox 360 incarnation. Allowing players to add more than 100 friends on Xbox 360 is not a real technical challenge for Microsoft, but it requires ending support for the still-popular shooter. It's not as simple as issuing a patch for Halo 2, or else Microsoft would have released one ages ago.
Looking at Major Nelson's weekly Xbox Live activity lists, the Halo 2 connection should have been obvious a long time ago. Halo 2 is always the most played original Xbox title, suggesting a healthy community still enjoying Master Chief's second adventure online, despite the existence of Halo 3 on Xbox 360. What's keeping them playing? It doesn't matter, it only matters that they are.
My source said Microsoft still does not know when it will disable support for the original Xbox Live, thus ending Halo 2's reign on the charts. It could happen after the release of Halo 3: ODST, since that would give Halo players two new Halo games to move over to on the new Xbox Live. If you want Microsoft to move in that direction, however, it requires your voiced opinion.
Microsoft will be reading this and comments elsewhere. If there's real vocal support for finally moving on from Halo 2, it could very well happen in the near future, I'm told.
But at least we know the hold up. It's a technical issue, but it's really not. It's about a community doing nothing more than enjoying their favorite game, while the rest of the world is prevented a seemingly simple interface feature. When to call it quits is a challenging issue for online games, but really, it's almost out of Microsoft's hands. Gamers have to make the decision.
What do you want Microsoft to do?
Hi B-Ri.
Simple. Update code to allow more than 100 friends. Discontinue support for Halo 2.
6 months later, release Halo 2 Recompiled Edition EXCLUSIVE! for 360 and all the people can pay again to play, while the rest of us can have more than 100 friends.
Why don't they just update the original Xbox Live so it can support more than 100 friends as well? Original Xbox Live goes down then that also means Third Strike goes down, which would suck.
What are we paying a subscription fee for if they are not going to full support the entire service?
My current Live account carried over from Halo 2 (wtf auto renew). Happily it came in handy.
