$60 a year! Holy fucking shit my welfare won't cover that now!
Fucking babies.
lol. I had $20 in gift credit at Amazon that I forgot about. I got 2 years for the new price of 1.
I was at least trying to be nice. But yeah, all the fucking garbage people post in the haul threads and here we are bitching over a few bucks.
also I give it 5 posts until someone cries again how its so evil and corporate nonsense. Go PC gaming blah blah blah blah
You apparently can get a month for $1 right now through the dashboard. It says it will be set to auto renew when it is over, but it is now super easy to turn that off.
What's fucked up is that the price is being raised in places that don't get all the services you're supposedly paying for. I don't get Netflix and can't participate in contests, which is bullshit, but people in places like Ireland don't get the broken-ass Facebook application or even Indie games, yet their prices went up.
I'd be happy if MS made a silver+ level that was like, $30 for only online play. As it is, I may sign up before the price increase, but that's about it. I haven't had Gold since April and don't miss it at all really. Aside from the online play, you're basically paying for stuff a laptop (and the other consoles) offers for free anyway.
I got no problem paying extra for the best online console service. I used to be a hardcore PC gamer but i'd much rather play on my couch these days. XBL shits on PSN and everyone I know is on 360 too. When people turn on their 360 to use the chat features - while playing an online PS3 or Wii game together, you know theres a huge problem.
That said, I hope they change their tune on a few things:
-By all accounts Microsoft sets a maximum player limit on games. Im sick of being stuck with 24 player games (not to mention laughable bullshit like 16 player max in Halo). Its time for that to change on consoles. I was playing 64 player games even 8 years ago - I was expecting 100+ player games at least in 2010.
-They need to speed up their game patching approval process. Following certain devs leads me to believe microsoft hangs up patches that were finished for weeks. Thats a pretty big difference from PC games in that aspect.
-Also Microsoft limits the amount of free content/patches a game can get due to marketplace space or something. WTF is that all about?
I can still play the best online multi-player game for free. Team Fortress 2. So yes GO GO PC GAMING!
New controller 11/9 - omg
Looks nice, bogus that they are only bundling it with a charge and play kit.
Fuck $64.99. What a bunch of crooks.
Go buy a controller and a play and charge and pay less than $70. What the flying fuck is going on with the internet lately.
I don't need another play and charge kit, and I'm not rewarding Microsoft for getting the controller wrong for the second generation in a row and then not even packing it in with the S consoles.
I think the issue that people should be up in arms with is the fact that it took MS 5 years to implement a new D-Pad, not the price.
omg that looks rad
Seriously, a dualshock 3 is like $55, where has everyone been?
Exactly.
lol I'm still irritated about having to use the sticks to zoom.
MS is doing a lot of idiot taxes lately.
Their proprietary accessory chip and hard drives are bullshit. They make paying for peer-to-peer look good. I'm unlikely to buy all the systems next generation, as there aren't enough exclusives to justify it. Hopefully the shooters will go with somebody else.
Because that's the normal MSRP for a controller and play and charge kit, and it has been ever since they started selling them together?
I got the red controller with play and charge kit on amazon about 2 months ago for $40. They go on sale often
Seriously, if you're upset about the controller, be upset about the fact it took so long to fix the problem, not the price which is in line with all other controllers.
I don't remember paying $65 for a controller, ever. Or $50.
That play and charge pack is a pile, BTW. After six months, mine was only giving me about 30 minutes before the stupid guide button started flashing (low battery warning).
edit: I LIED. I paid more for that rad Street Fighter stick.
hurp derp rechargeable batteries lose their charge over time.
Mine usually last about a year before they start to die down. And $12 a year is better than what I'd spend in AAs.
Lol, That's why I still only have a sixaxis. I'm not spending $55 for dual shock.
But for some reason I have 2 MS wireless controllers, 2 cheap wired madcatz controllers, 2 joysticks and a fightpad for the 360.
I've had the same rechargeable battery pack in my 360 controller for four years, and it still goes for 10 hours after a full charge.
The 360 battery I bought in April is completely dead. As in, 10 seconds off of the cable and the controller turns off. Dualshock 3 from '08 is still humming along with great charge times. MS just has crap QC on their batteries.
Street Fighter can go die. Shooters, on the other hand!
And you love those drums, kill yourself.
Yeah, but six months? Anyway, I wouldn't have even mentioned it if the stupid guide light didn't start going off while the controller was still plugged in.
They are not shitty--$300 well spent. Also the new dpad looks dead sexy. My launch play and charge kit died 2 years after. I just use rechargeable batteries now.
its probably still on a shitty pivot/cylinder system like the existing ones
edit: hong kong oem wired controller for 23 on dealextreme what
I'm not sure this is going to solve the fundamental problem of the 360 D-Pad, which is how the edges of the disc portion hit the surrounding rim and make you use extra force to actually trigger the direction. Simply letting you raise the cross portion isn't going to fix that.
Also, 360 Play & Charge Kits are garbage. I have normal rechargeable batteries that I bought before I bought a kit, and I'm still using them to power my 360 controllers. Meanwhile, my kit is dead and the pack won't charge.
You let something die all the way, like, it's totally dead. Then you charge it until the red light turns green. You can do it while the system is in standby. Now you play with it until it dies again.
It's so hard to do.
I have 3 batteries I rotate from the quick charge kit that have lasted me for years. Maybe the problem is the dogshit play and charge kit.
I sure am glad they plastered the Save $20 on your next year of Live on every section of the dash. Does it really need to be in Community, Music, Video and Games?
I had no idea anyone had problems with the rechargeable 360 battery. I'm using the same cable I originally bought in 2006 and I think my 3rd battery. They last me a long time.
You mean that sarcastically, right?
It might indeed be something along those likes, because the people I've heard who have the quick charge kit usually tend to be happy, while the people with the play & charge have nothing but problems (including me).
And, unfortunately, as much as I might bitch and moan about the costs of Xbox Live Gold and the stupidity of Microsoft, getting online with my friend tonight in Uncharted 2 (which you would assume is one of the better examples of PS3 online) reminded me just how much better things are over on the 360. I still think it's ridiculous to pay a yearly fee for what are little more than OS functions, but I guess it can't be helped.
I've replaced exactly one battery pack since the launch of the console.
Does anyone have a transfer cable I could borrow?
I will promptly mail it back to them or mail it to another member for borrowing.
I have so much stuff saved onto my 250gig elite that I want to transfer over to my slim.
You seriously bought a slim after already having a functioning 250GB elite?
Yea, I got tired of my 360's breaking. I've been through 3 of them.
Also built in wifi is nice
So you sent a strong message to MS by buying another. Good call.
coldsnap: get in touch with dyne. if he doesn't have it, he may know who does.
He's right.
I like the look of the new controller but I've been looking at the Razer Onza also, unfortunately it's been in development hiding since like January. It's wired but supposedly has an awesome Dpad and sticks that you can modify the resistance with, alongside 2 extra shoulder buttons for mapping.

He's not illiterate; he knows who his parents are.
Yes, I had read that, but either that article or another one has the same rep saying the Dpad on it is not final.
Lol. I wonder how one becomes an "industry analyst."
http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/02/pa...ve-membership/
The bump in cost for a Gold membership on Xbox Live is just the tip of the iceberg, according to game industry seer Michael Pachter. Predicting a $100 plan as the next evolutionary step in subscription options soon to be available to Xbox Live consumers, he told IndustryGamers reports that while the initial extra $10 "translates to around $100 to 150 million per year in additional revenue for Microsoft," the company will "reinvest at least this much in developing other new applications, and will roll out a premium service with $100 to 200 million worth of enhancements. If they can get 2 million users to switch from the $60 plan to the $100 plan, they'll make an extra $80 million a year, and can keep investing to try to grow that business."
It makes sense: Xbox Live is easily one of the biggest draws of the console and consumers have already shown they're willing to pay a premium for it. But even if Microsoft were to offer a "Platinum" service, what could justify what is comparably such a heftier price tag?
"For all I know, the Platinum plan might include virtual goods credits for various Microsoft games," Pachter posits. "If members could get specialized Halo armor or weapons worth the extra $40, they might be more willing to sign up, and it doesn't really cost Microsoft anything to offer things like that." You know what? We may know a few people willing to pay for something like that.
OR: "Games company 'Micro Soft' continues to dig out of the deep hole (urmumz) dug by thousands of gratis repairs on older model 360 units, raises prices on high-markup services to compensate..."
Pachter talked about a "Platinum" tier some time ago. Makes sense, don't know how many people would be willing to go for it, but whatever.
If it comes with worthless clothes and accessories for you fake Microsoft doll, I bet Chux would.
Just bought an 80GB OG 360 from a buddy for $100 bucks so i'll be seeing you bitches on Live soon.
 Fucked up with the 8 and 2 on the numpad.
I have.
My CC # changed a couple years ago so the yearly auto-bill couldn't go through. Absolutely no way to solve this without calling customer service, and until you DO solve it, you don't even have a Silver account (can't access XBL at all).
Leaving the Church of Scientology is easier than convincing them to revert your account to Silver over the phone. It left such a bad taste, I'll never pay for Gold again. Don't miss it either.
All that BS is why i only ever used subscription cards.
But it is not the case anymore. It is super easy to turn of the auto renewal. Though I do admit it was a pain in the ass years ago.
New dash video.
They show off the new Avatars at the end.
So, anyone try the Vanquish demo? It's like Gears but way faster. I'm curious to see its multiplayer if it has it.
I wonder if Kinect could auto-generate avatars. That would be somewhat cool.
if it could then every third avatar would be some dude with his cock hanging out.
Microsoft redoing the dashboard ever couple of years must really piss off publishers making money off of themes.
They can just rehash the same shit and charge for it again. I'm sure they're not too broken up over it.
I'm thinking about getting a 360 soon- do I need to be looking for anything special to best avoid the rrod thing? And what's the smallest hd I can get away with? I probably won't download many games but I'll get some dlc I'd imagine.
Is the best value the slim 4gb? Or should I grab an arcade + $50 20gb hd?
XBLA arcade games get bigger everyday, the bigger your HDD the better. You can also install games to the HDD, so keep that amount of space in mind.
I'd go for the new 250GB, and don't forget to order a cheap HDMI cable from the internet so you don't get ripped off.
I'm still running a Zenith from like 12 years ago. The tv upgrade might be coming next year though.
Stick to the PS2 until then I M O
lol
If you go that route, PM me. I actually bought a set from monoprice that I never wound up using. Don't pay for the MS brand.
If you go with the 4GB slim or the old arcade, you can always add a 16GB usb flash drive.
YellerDog is selling some VGA cables, too.
That is true! I am!
I had an old model Arcade, got a 20g HD from Josh for $10, and basically did ok. I used a 4GB flash drive for not-often-played games, but I almost never had to delete anything unless I wanted to have more than one disc-game installed to the HD at a time. Street Fighter IV and _______?
If you don't care about shmups, you don't care about a Japanland 360; best way to avoid RROD is not to play for more than 4 hours at a time.
Is there any reason for non-faggotchans to own a Jap 360?
Not hardly.
I don't play shooters anymore and I don't like Cave so the Jap system isn't even a thought.
Like I said the TV is probably coming soon, but I don't even use it that often. I download most things and watch it on my computer. I would like to stream Netflix in the living room though. I pretty much just play 3s on my computer these days as far as games go.
The TV I've got works for me just fine right now and I'm more focused on saving a year's worth of living expenses.
This is more like what I'm thinking, Arcade plus used or cheap hdd somewhere. I'm just looking to save some money since I doubt I'll need the 250gb drive.

dvi -> pc, d-sub -> 360
best of both worlds
I'm going to want to play stuff online.
Also the TV thing is just a whole new world of shit where I'm going to have to spend hours on end reading about input lag and post processing and response time and whether the VGA ports reduce post processing or not etc etc etc. Not looking forward to that.
I hope Yoshi remembers this slight when Gears of War 3 comes out and he wants friends to play with.
...I'm pretty sure Jap is a racist slur...
