Right now, smartglass isn't useful for all that much. It's a nice and quick way to see who is on without turning on the system as well as sending messages, but it seems like tablets may play a more important, and useful/fun, role next gen.

I would have bought it at launch if it wasn't called FORZA. That picture above should be enough to show that it has very little to do with previous games.
I just updated to the latest dashboard, and I see there's no quick play tile. It made it so much quicker and easier to launch games on compilation discs.
I'm glad to see that those stupid photos have been dropped from the interface, though. The generic XBL banner is much less tacky.

Just got into the World of Tanks Beta (lol). Should be interesting.
I went to check the dash update on my 360 and lo and behold, it didn't turn on. What a surprise! I packed up everything and went to Gamestop to trade it all in. I got one of the newer ones (the 4 GB model), so I can still play Minecraft with my kids and use the MS points I have. I think I'll just keep the system around for exclusives, since I play and use my PS3 more. I didn't have to pay a difference for it, so it was worth the upgrade.
TRU was having a clearance sale, so I went in and found the 320gb HDD for $80. Nice!

Deadfall Adventures (XBLA, PC): This one is being published by Nordic games and is based on the Adventures of Alan Quartermain (inspiration for Indiana Jones and so on). Looks quite good for an arcade released FPS.

How is that even possible? I had a Zephyr and it got RROD like they all do. I replaced it with a Falcon and it's been okay. After that they released Jasper which fixed some of the issues but the system since Valhalla has been as reliable as expected. It took them five years but they got there.
I'm technically on my third 360 but only one of them broke. I traded my launch model for a Wii when the first HDMI versions came out and I got one that died like four years later.
I wouldn't have even bought the one I have now but I got it basically new condition from my sister in law for like $50 or something crazy like that. She had used it for a month and rarely at that.
I'm probably off on the exact number but I know it's higher than 5. He went through a bunch of them in the first 2 - 3 years.
It makes you wonder how distantly in third place MSFT would be globally if no one bought more than, say, two of these pieces of shit.
Take your old HDD to someone elses house with a working old-school 360, upload all of those saves to the cloud, download them at your house. There are very few 360 games that don't let you copy your save to the cloud.Quote:

They are good for actually giving you some money for a known busted system. A while back thanks to some trade in specials I traded my dead launch PS2 with crappy third party controller for a new slim for $60 at a time they were selling for $129.99.
When the hell is this new update supposed to roll out/ I've got about 300 MS points just sitting there and no desire to buy 800 and end up stuck with 300 again after purchasing what I want.
You can buy in any increment of $5 at Gamestop. Tell them how much you want at the counter, pay, the code prints on your receipt. This is the best way to avoid paying for more points than you need short of giving MS your credit card number, and lol at that.
You can just buy a 400 point code on Amazon.
Good to know there are those options, but I think I will wait till it goes normal currency, that way I will have absolutely no excess of MS points left over.

Yeah I am, at least to have the digital versions handy in case I get lazy and don't want to swap discs or go to someone else's house.
So far of the free games I've enjoyed Defense Grid (of the little I played it), Assassin's Creed II, and Fable III.

If you play a fair amount of games and Xbox 360 is your only platform, you should have 100,000 cheevos without even trying. I have like 40,000 and 360 is, at best, my 3rd platform now.
I played WoW for more than 5 years and have almost 70k. There was a big jump from 40ish to 60ish when I quit WoW, but that was about it.

Speaking of discounts I found myself in a gamestop yesterday while my wife was in a craft store and portal 2 on 360 is still $40 new there.

I have a feeling that Sony's deals will get worse over time and MS' will get better.
I have yet to get Plus (probably a mistake), but I do want to get it before the PS4 hits. Why am I waiting? I don't know. For me, it's mostly because I buy the games I want at launch. A free cut-down Driveclub is worth nothing to me since I am buying it Day One. Resogun is a great get though. But if it's limited in any way, then it also has zero value to me.
The reason why Portal 2 360 new is so expensive is because nobody who wants Portal 2 360 now is buying it new. I can buy it used on Amazon for $12.
It sounds crazy and unintuitive, but I am serious when I say the used game market props up prices.
Unfortunately, opaque is (understandably) confused.
Gamestop charges $39.99 for a USED copy of Portal 2. Because they're asshats. The same asshats that charge a 10-15 dollar premium on the Left 4 Dead games and were charging $25 for gta iv when everyone still had it for 20 new.
The price should come down since a bunch of asshats were buying it during TRU'S 3 for 30 sale and trading them in for $17 to gamestop.
For anyone that still has/uses the HD-DVD drive, how loud is it when playing movies? I played mine for the first time in over a year and it seems a lot louder than I remember it, but at the old house it was also much further away. I'm just trying to figure out if something's wrong with it or if my memory is just shot. It also had issues with a movie (the first Matrix,) but I popped a second movie in and it played perfectly all the way through.
I don't know if EB/GS is run differently here in Canada or not, but every time I look through their used games, I see at least one used game that is more expensive than a new copy at the same store. I've asked a few times to check the prices, and it's never been an old price sticker or the wrong price. That's how it is in their system.
