Official Xbox 360 Thread

I had thought about disc rot... but after only what, 5 years? I suppose that is the answer though, the disc is pristine as far as I can tell. No matter, the bluray is cheap.

The drive is hooked up to the slim 360. From my entertainment center, I can't hear the 360 or PS3 slim spinning discs when playing movies, but I definitely hear the HD DVD drive. Maybe it's time to either get a new HD drive or just purge the movies and get the important ones on bluray, they should all be cheap by now. It's not like I have a huge collection, it's mostly just stuff I could get cheap back when it was all clearanced.

There was a problem with one of the manufacturing plants warner used, hence the premature failure. I found this out a couple of months ago after I went on an hd dvd binge to fill the gaps in my collection and discovered half of them didnt work right out of a brand new package.
I've heard tell of a program you can use to rip them to an hd. Unfortunately I am going to have to explore that.

Magic 2013 and Rainbow Six Vegas are the free games this month. Eh.....

It's frustrating the the Xbox.com store won't let me download free games and demos without using credit card or putting in a pre-paid card, but at least I was still able to download the games on the system itself with no problems. I hope this gets fixed soon.

It took them eight years to use real currency - I'd say they'll remedy that problem in about half a decade.

The two threads that have been started using the Oman downloads as an excuse have both revealed that the person being banned are either pirates or hackers. If the Oman thing was ban worthy they would be hitting a lot of people in waves.

They stopped waves after 2011 when it went wrong. It's all individual now. The 2nd thread has some dude who swears he didn't do anything wrong but has a Bosnia, and Oman account but lives in the US and got banned with no email.

I almost want to troll the place talking about Rayman Legends isn't even a good enough game to play for free (THIS IS A JOKE, Rayman Defense Force don't kill me).

Also I'm pretty sure they never ban accounts for 360 piracy. In the past they only ban accounts for exploiting online stuff, which is another reason I think the piracy has nothing to do with it. And why it's so funny that GAF is on this piracy witch-hunting kick when it probably doesn't matter.

Next games with gold is Might and Magic Clash of Heroes. I was on the fence, but i can't argue with the price. Pac-Man Champion Edition DX was updated today, but almost all of the new stuff is paid DLC. Lame! No new achievements either.

Clash of Heroes is really good, don't know why other people on the net are bitching about a legitimately good free Live arcade game.

They must be bored I guess.

I was looking hard for a way to blow that $20 I got from GTAV on the marketplace and didn't see anything I wanted. Sunset time for the old 360 IMO.

That sure blows the doors off of Sony's offering of Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen, Binary Domain, and ibb and obb for PS3. As well as Soul Sacrifice and Oddworld Strangers Wrath for Vita.
(Not to mention the two PS4 games)

Iron Brigade is awesome but that is still a horrible selection compared to Plus this month.

At this point I think people are going to have to accept that Games for Gold is just not going to to match up to Sony's volume of PlayStation Plus perks.

Games for Gold have been offering a pretty decent array of games and you get to keep those digital copies so it's a win/win for Gold members. If you don't have an interest in the free games then simply don't download them and stick to PS+.

Free Dead Rising 2, Assassins Creed 2, and whatever that other game was is pretty awesome. Especially for me, since I've always wanted to play both, but refuse to pay more than $10 for either.

Dead Rising 2 is an amazing game for free.

Oh, Mark of the Ninja. Probably the best game in a while.

Marky Mark of the Ninja is the best game. No-kill-no-alert runs are intense.

Exactly.

There were a few games I've never played for whatever reasons (Defense Grid, Rainbow Six Vegas, Dead Rising 2 & Case Zero, Assassin's Creed II, Fable III), I downloaded them and enjoyed them so it worked out for me.

I also have a lot of retail games in the backlog (most of what PS+ have been offering) so I'm good.

Giving away 2 ten dollar games a month isn't all that exciting, but I HAVE always wanted Trenched.

I just got the e-mail notification that my Xbox Live Gold subscription is done. I can't think of a single reason why I'd renew it at this point. Ah well, it was nice while it was nice.

I thought Case Zero was free when DR2 was?

I feel like we'd praise games with gold if it wasn't such a poorly implemented "oh shit me too" service. PS+ outclassing it every month isn't hard.

The issue is that PS+ gives you tons of value each month and Games with Gold only gives you like $25 worth of value each month (maybe) and for the most part offers games that have been not only available but available EXTREMELY CHEAPLY for like 5 or 6 years.

Maybe it's still $40 in stores, but I think it went down to $20 on PSN recently. Also, Delta is on the horizon, so the vanilla game will be obsolete soon. Also, the game is pretty gay and crappy. The only people forcing themselves into it are those trying to use it as a Monster Hunter surrogate.

The point is, the Games with Gold program was created in response to what Sony is doing with PS+ that consumers are loving, but it's WAAAY worse. If given the choice between shitty free game or no free game I still take the free game, but I wish the 360 program was as good as the PS3 (and 4 and Vita) program.

The thing is that Xbox Live wasn't initially built for giving away free games, it was for it's various gaming/entertainment services.

Free* game giveaways was a program Sony started relatively recently as a big incentive for joining their service and they've done a great job getting people aboard on that which also benefits the gamer who doesn't have a huge budget for games but:

A) With rare exceptions I tend to buy multiplatform games on the 360 on the cheap anyway for various reasons (Better controller, achievements, usually better non PC ports)

B) I'm not going to subscribe to two different services

C) I play fighting/shooting and other multiplayer games mainly on Live with you guys

Gold also does the weekly discounts on digital games so that's another benefit although I could definitely do without the apps behind the paywall shit. I haven't turned on my PS3 in months due to working through my backlog of 360 games on top of working on achievements through single and multi-player so it'll be a while before I get back to my PS3.

I am personally not loving PS+. The only parts of PS+ that interests me are the discounts on games I can actually purchase for reals, and that's something Live has done on a weekly basis for years and years.

But that's just me.

As a new PS3 owner, I think PS+ is aces. I get tons of games that I missed out on included with the service and REALLY heavy discounts on others.

As I have owned my 360 for many yeas and had Live since the original Xbox, I find that Games for Gold don't appeal as much to me as I've played many of them before.

If this situation was reversed, my feelings probably would, too! This MS vs. Sony argument and all of this asterisk FREE asterisk rental nonsense is dumb. Both programs are fine.

Also, I'm HAPPY you guys get to get Keiflings even if I already own a license for it. You get to enjoy it, too! Enjoy RTS minus fighting!

That seems rather reductive. By and large, the average XBL weekly deal has maybe 6-10 pieces of content from one specific franchise, many months removed from their initial release. PS+ sales tend to feature a much wider selection of products per sale, containing some pretty recent releases, with markedly deeper price cuts.

PS+ sales are awesome, and better than XBL sales.

The problem is that the whole Sony online setup is still such a trash heap.

The sale on Tokyo Jungle (which happened like, 2 months after release) is what got me into PS+ and I've never looked back since.

I've gotten Soldner X/2 and Journey on sale but outside of that not much else.
