Laws against murder go back to religious practice too.

McCain is a public servant. Obama is a power monger, who will do anything to get more. The first example in this campaign might be the best. Obama said he would accept public funding but turned out to to just lie about it, because he could gain a greater advantage by letting McCain be the honest guy.
So it's better to take public money (socialism! for shame!) than accept small donations from supporters? I think Obama's model is going to be the one you see in future national elections from here on out. Both sides will do this.
I don't see the problem here.
Maybe you want to rephrase that?
i really can't emphasize enough that if you think obama is a socialist, you are a fucking idiot. we can argue over his tax plans being overall good or bad for ourselves or the economy but if you think he is a socialist, you think every president and congress since and including FDR was socialist. and in doing so you rob every ounce of meaning from the term.
i mean, i fuck around and call bush a fascist, but i really don't think he is. that said, bush is more of a fascist than obama is a socialist, and it's not particularly close.
Pretty much, yes. I have had so many Caucasians tell me that they can't get things like disability benefits and public aid because they are white, and I have met so many African-Americans who think they still can't get a good job because they are black. In reality, those are crutches. There is discrimination, but people like Obama are using their talents and opportunities to break down the walls.
I would think a staunch conservative would approve of personal accountability for success. Obama may have taken advantage of affirmative action, but if we are ever going to reach more of a meritocracy and a level playing field, his presidency may be a significant milestone. Which fact is ironic, since he is not qualified for the office in proportion to the support he commands, but it is certainly a step up.
Oh fuck me! OK your right. But marriage is an act between two voluntary parties, in which the outcome doesn't effect the rest of the community*. Murder, on the other hand, is the involuntary act by one party being attacked by the other party to the point of death. Obviously the government should step in on one and not the other. I thought you Republicans were for government deregulation anyway?
*lawyers will probably be effected by incressed business which should have a minor positive effect on the snake economy.
I'm still not sure how Yoshi even cares about gay marriage, like it's one of the most out there things for him to be so vehemently against.
i think marriage definitely has a net positive effect on society. marriage provides for stability in childrearing as well as the labor workforce and domestic finances. i just think the government should move away from the religious aspects of marriage and incentivize civil unions for everyone instead.
Can we stop arguing and just agree our choices here are a pair of Socialists and a pair of Facists?
Can we agree that once the Election is over FC and S&B will explode again with activity.
Also: No more fucking political commercials which fucking annoy me to no end.
Which are you insinuating to be the better option?
John McCain.
As someone who wishes Obama WAS a socialist, I can testify that he most definitely is not.
I wish the general population knew that there was more to the political spectrum than Democrats and Republicans.
LOL
this black guy in philly said he's gonna vote "a couple times" on CNN
over/under on how long until this is on drudge?
I think if you post in the Gears thread you get two votes.

People are complaining about Starbucks giving away free coffee.
I mean, it is Starbucks, so it's a little burnt tasting, but what?
Quote:
Election officials for the state of Washington told KIRO 7 that rewarding voters with free coffee is illegal.
"No good deed goes unpunished," said Nick Handy, director of elections.
Handy said there is a federal statute that prohibits any reward for voting.
Starbucks' good deed can be perceived as paying someone to vote, and that’s illegal, Handy said.
"The way it is written, it expressly prohibits giving any kind of gift," Handy said.
Handy said the intent of the statute is aimed at special interest groups trying to influence who and how people vote.
To fix the situation, Starbucks had agreed to give a tall cup of coffee to anyone who asks on Election Day.
A statement from Tara Darrow of Starbucks says, "We've been excited by the number of positive responses received about our free coffee offer. To ensure we are in compliance with election law, we are extending our offer to all customers who request a tall brewed coffee. We're pleased to honor our commitment to communities on this important Election Day. We hope there is a record turnout on Tuesday and look forward to celebrating with our customers over a great cup of coffee."
I think Starbucks knew it was illegal to give coffee away to people for voting, which is why they announced days ago that they would be giving *everyone* free coffee on voting day.
i never claimed not to be a bigot towards poor spellers
considering that's what our present progressive tax system does, not to mention social security and a federal government that does not tax and spend on each state equally? i don't think so, and if you do, you believe we've been living in a socialist state since the new deal.
Look, like 90% of blacks voted for Clinton to begin with. So if 95% are voting for Obama, you could really only make the argument that 5% of them wouldn't vote for him if he was white.
But I think what burg is trying to say is that blacks basing their vote are doing it out of solidarity for their own race, not hatred for another. Either that or they see the value of the symbol as an inspiration above and beyond just his platform (which I think is probably legitimate in some way).
it's really more of a turnout thing than anything. i think blacks are more likely to endure whatever election procedural bullshit that shouldn't exist anyway because of the historic nature of obama's candidacy. maybe some black republicans will reverse bradley into an obama vote but that's probably it.
disagree with the former, agree with the latter but it wasn't my point. i think white racial solidarity is fucking ugly in this country not only because it is premised on exclusion, not inclusion, but also because of its effect on the political power structure. maybe i could say the same thing of black solidarity in like the southside of chicago but not of the country at large.Quote:

And some of that 5% is voting out of a racist agenda. You can say "racial solidarity," though, as long as you are consistent across races. Otherwise, you are proving my point about white liberals. There have to be some black racists, even if you think it's one-tenth of one percent.
So it took me almost 2 hours to vote, but I did it. Assholes at the polls wouldn't let me vote even though I was in their book because I opened my dumb mouth that I had moved recently (which shouldn't been an issue, but these people were retarded). After fighting with them for a while, I went to the other district like they told me to, who of course told me that those other people were cocksuckers and I had to go back there and yell at them until they let me vote. Which I did. But by then the lines had gotten long and I had to wait another half hour.
Fun times, fun times.
Also, when you're talking about words like socialism or capitalism, they don't actually mean much by themselves. They exist to different degrees. Whether you vote for the Democratic or Republican parties you're going to get some level of socialism in their domestic policy. Vote libertarian if you're so inclined, but think about what words mean before you use them.
In the context the republican smears have been using the word, you could just as easily replace it with communist and none of the people they're aiming it at would notice. Thankfully they can't do that, because there are some people that would still call them on it
I'm not saying there aren't some blacks voting out of racial bias, and I'm not saying they're doing the right thing. My only point was that people throw around how heavily for Obama blacks are and they forget how heavily democratic they are to begin with such that the figure isn't really that shocking given the political landscape even if he were white. My mother told me last night that Obama is a communist.
Sure they do.
See, this is what I mean about platitudes and salves. The old guard paints these absolutist black-and-white scenes and the new guard tries to tell you that everything is relative. Both extremes are either intellectually dishonest or intellectually lazy, whether it's about race or economics.
I'm not attacking Salsashark, just this swing from one side of the pendulum to the other.
I've been told that he's a Muslim multiple times. It doesn't matter that there's no evidence for these claims, people just believe in them.
I'd also like someone who voted for the Republican party to justify the recent Wallstreet bailout. What the hell do you call an economic system in which that happens? I don't think just "capitalism" or "socialism" are enough. "Bullshit" may apply.
I know what you're saying, but I just mean that the way the real world works simple labels don't stick very well. I don't think you could rightly attribute a single philosophy to either of our parties at this point. People do anyway of course. Personally, I don't think that's a bad thing at all. I don't really believe in the power of philosophy alone to govern, and I think what's happened to Wallstreet is one glaring example of that that people seem to almost be ignoring.
Bullshit does apply. It was caused, in large part, by pressure being put on lenders to approve mortgages for low income people that could not afford them. Predictably, these went south, and the lenders were left holding the bag. Thanks to our lovely Democratic-led Congress, that bag was passed on to the tax payers.
The other guilty party is people who bury themselves in debt to live above their means. They exacerbated the problem by defaulting on loans. Too bad they likely won't be the ones paying the tab.

BUSH HELPS MCAIN IN BID FOR ELECTION!
WASHINGTON – It's no coincidence President Bush has been out of the public's eye in recent days — that's the way the Republican Party wants it. White House press secretary Dana Perino said Monday the incumbent's invisibility is by design — because "the Republican Party wanted to make this election about John McCain."
The president knows there are people in this country who want change and are looking for something new, Perino said.
"We're realistic about the political environment that we are in," she said. "What keeps him going is knowing that he's done the right thing."
With a 26 percent approval rating, Bush has only appeared in Democratic television ads that regularly tie him to Republican candidates. And that won't change until after Election Day.
Since Bush endorsed McCain in the Rose Garden on March 5, the two have appeared in public only three times for a total of 12 minutes. That's in stark contrast to the scores of fundraisers and rallies Bush did before congressional midterm elections in 2002 and 2006. Perino said the last time Bush and McCain communicated was before the president's Cabinet meeting October 15.
As McCain and Democrat Barack Obama made their final pitches to voters over the weekend, Bush spent time at the Camp David presidential retreat. He has no public events on Monday or Tuesday, not even an Election Day photo op.
Bush voted in Texas by absentee ballot and plans a small dinner in the White House residence Tuesday night with two purposes: celebrating his wife's birthday and watching "with great interest as the returns come in."
The White House said Bush is busy with the financial crisis, two wars and the upcoming transition to a new administration. The economy and recent hurricanes on the Gulf Coast prompted Bush to cancel appearances at fundraisers.
In early September after Hurricane Gustav, Bush scrapped his planned opening-night speech at the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minn., and instead spoke via satellite.
siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh
and it was caused in much larger part by the libertarian push for deregulation
Does this mean the base is getting a little shakey, Doc?
And this is new news how, Doc?
It's not. I just wanted to remind you how Kerry would have gotten McCain elected.
Or hell, maybe even Giuliani!
Obama will get someone a hell of a lot more conservative than those two elected.
i def would be voting for rudy over kerry
i understand that you're the most conservative person in the united states
what i don't understand is how you don't understand that the rest of the country is liberal relative to you
also - i really want someone to explain to me how a former governor of MASSACHUSETTS who is PRO-CHOICE can possibly be defined as a conservative
Wurzelbacher?
hmmm... Obama v. Jindal could be a valid successor to Best Election Evar!
Rename it to "Best Election Yet."
You know they're both young guys, we may see the first debate yet settled by a little muay thai.
"evar" inherently includes the past but not the future

Gorilla warfare
reagan had the evangelical morons on his side, not against him, and clinton got 370 precisely because perot did well, not despite him. in fact, obama is likely to get more of the popular vote than any president since bush 41, if not reagan. it just now happens that the states are more sharply divided on party lines than ever before.
ROFL @ Back Panthers intimidating voters
I get all my election info through e-mails, so that makes me extremely knowledgable about the whole election, and gives me all the correct info to base my vote on. So that's why I'm voting McCain. Obama is a Socialist Muslim Negro Terrorist who wants all of our money, white women, and will help the Taliban win the War For Terror. He might be the Antichrist as well. Only silver bullets can stop him now!*
*Not a guarantee. Actual stopping implements currently unknown. Approach at your own risk. Do not stake at, poke, or taunt Obama. He will rape yo' ass.
This election is bananas, b - a - n - a - n - a - s!
This woman is bananas..
B - A - N - A - N - A - S!
Thanks for reposting things. We'll just call you MVS, aren.
I was in a Target this morning, and three female workers were having quite the heated discussion. I got within earshot in time to hear one say, "I'm voting for Obama because I ain't heard McCain say nothing about what he's gunna do fer latino single mothers." To which another employee said, "uh-huh!". The third female stated, "well, I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. I don't know about you two, but I don't plan to work at Target for the rest of my life, so when I make it I don't want to have to give all my money to the government."
Women with opinions are so cute.
If you haven't voted yet, I just got an important email, BARACK OBAMA IS RAISING OUR TAXES TO PAY OFF OUR NATION'S DEBT... IN RAPE DOLLARS!!![/killbill]
I like "Latino single mothers" they're worse than "Single mothers"
It's a little redundant.
