Ventura was awful. Almost any Minnesotan will attest to that.
Wow, clearly we see how McCain values experience picking a woman with 2 years under her belt and virtually no political experience beyond that. I guess he says "We need an experienced leader. Unless by some chance a 72 year old dies in the next 4 years. But that won't happen."
He must think this will be enough to persuade ex-Hillary/PUMA voters to put him over 50%.
He has made a major tactical error in thinking a younger more attractive woman will appeal to old ladies.
I gotta say though, she's way more fuckable than Dick Cheney.
Who?
I read the article at CNN and it doesn't really give any clear overview of her stances or anything. How right of center is she?
Because historically there ain't a damn thing as unappealing to me as a hard-right woman, they come across as robot lizard people or something.
Apparently she's as hard-right as they come -- that's how they described her during speculation on CNN this morning.

I mean. Yeah.
Our state quickly went into debt after Ventura mailed us surplus checks a couple years in a row.
Pawlenty, our current governor who was in the buzz for VP, is known here for cutting back on our snowplow budget to save money. As dumb as that was, MN voters were dumber to reelect him. I'm not sure whether to be happy that he wasn't rewarded with the VP nomination or to be sad that he'll be here at least another 2 years.

Gov. Sarah Palin responds to a question in her downtown Anchorage office next to a grizzly her father shot in Denali Highway country. - photo by STEPHEN NOWERS / Anchorage Daily News
She named her kids Track and Trig.
I can't trust a person that would do that.
Oh wow, she's nuts! This is awesome. He should have taken this a step further and picked Reese Witherspoon because she is hotter and was in two Legally Blonde movies.
Never heard of her until now. As far as hotness goes, yes. This is the state of Jewel, after all. Something about her love of guns, and that couch, and that bear pelt... it's getting me all hot and bothered.
But seriously, this choice is bewildering. Kay Bailey Hutchinson would have been a much better choice for securing the older women miffed over Hillary. She's a moderate, very likable, and would guarantee Texas.
Palin? I'd hit it, but I'm not sure I'd vote for it.
Yeah, but Texas has been guaranteed since 1968 maybe? (Edit: 1972)
This pick is all about disgruntled Hillary voters who care more about revenge than Democratic issues.
McCain is going for the chiseled jaw vote.
And why the fuck do we need polar bears? Contrary to how cute Coca-Cola makes them look every Christmas, they are some of the most vicious land-dwelling carnivores on the planet. Polar bears and sharks can go fuck themselves and die, and if an Alaskan milf in a sensible dress suit and Lisa Loeb glasses wants to speed the process up, I say God bless her.
Only if the Democratic candidate is polling >60% nationwide.
Appeal is irrelevant. It's about sabotage and revenge. McCain wants to tap that.Quote:
I also thought a refined, older senator would be more appealing to the average Hillary supporter than a gun-toting milf.
I DON'T WANT NO PRESDiENT THATS HAD A DICK IN THEIR MOUTH
Hah, apparently when the press asked her if she was interested in the VP nomination she said she could say "until somebody answers for me what is it exactly that the VP does every day."
What a dummy.
i was seriously hoping for romney. i think this pick will not bode well for old john boy
The Democrats are funny, it's like they are trying to lose. They picked John Kerry of all people four years ago, but this year they're determined to take it to eleven by giving America a black guy or Hilliary this year. And then to top it off a VP from Delaware or thereabouts. Aces.
The Republicans thankfully don't want to be upstaged, now they've given a senile dinosaur who shakes when he talks some female VP. Huh. What, the Muslim senator couldn't make it?
Can we call this LOLathon '08 already?
1. I'd hit it.
2. I love this move by McCain. I certainly didn't see it coming. Punch-counterpunch, imo.
This race, which I am still undecided on, just got even more interesting.
Don't worry, it's fixed now. I wouldn't want the point to not get across.
It's a damned good thing they didn't go for the white guy though. At least Obama and Hillary kept scandal free.
The party was not grooming Obama to be the candidate. His campaign was really an unexpected runaway train, and he inspires enthusiasm in the party that was missing with guys like Gore and Kerry.
Democrat reaction is funny.
People who blindly support either party are blind fools.
Why I think this is good:
1) She is another draw for the disgruntled Hilary supporters.
2) She is a staunch conservative, both fiscally and socially, so she may appease the angry conservatives.
3) This adds to McCain's "maverick" reputation on the surface while simultaneously appeasing those conservatives to an extent.
4) She is a woman who is pro-life, she is a mother, and has a son with Down's syndrome.
5) She is younger than Obama and that may have some appeal for the younger voters out there turned away by the fact that McCain is a dinosaur.
6) She is a good looking woman and I already like looking at her.
If Hillary wants the dems to win she needs to give a speech about how Sarah Palin is a cunt. Now.
*crosses fingers for sex tape scandal*
Reporter get owned at DNC when trying to investigate the people who lobby and donate to Dem politics.
This is stupid - someone getting arrested for being on a sidewalk, being told he's in "private property" when he's not, all to keep some politician noses clean. Regardless of party line, this is shady shit, but what's more irritating is the fact that one of major media outlets gets manhandled like this, but I'm sure it won't be heavily scandalized. If it were an ABC producer at the RNC, it would be a field day for ABC, NBC, CNN, MSNB, The LA Times, Washington Post et al. As it is, Fox News will probably use it for some soapboxing, everyone will laugh ("because Fox ain't real newz just noose for loser rednecks lolololo") and it'll be done.
BUT
This sort of shit, when it goes down, should not be tolerated period. I don't care what color your state is.
I'm watching her now on CNN and I already don't really like her very much.
She's still hot though.
One thing that I'm liking about the outcome of this election, no matter who wins, is that the candidates all seem pretty forthright, there doesn't look to be the threat of another puppetmaster like Cheney (and sometimes Bush) that will spend most of their time slinking around out of the spotlight.
Oh come on now, Hero, you're smarter than to swallow that 'librul media' hooey. There's been no shortage of material that could have been turned around at McCain, it would be just as simple as Kerry to paint him as a flip-flopper, yet few of these opportunities have been taken and anything that was didn't stick to him at all.
Also, correct me if I'm misremembering, but didn't this sort of thing happen in a much greater capacity at the last RNC?
my favourite part of this conference is the van halen music playing
My favorite was "Addicted to Love" playing right after Bill gave his speech.
www.vpilf.com
Ah, internet.
Oh, I'm not about to act like it doesn't happen on both sides (I already said it did and don't care for it either way). And as much "hooey" as it may be, there's also just as much number-crunching that shows most major outlets tend to be favorable to the Blue. Not because it's an OMG conspiracy, but because (according to polls) most journalists lean that way and so it echoes through their work.
Digging through the comments section you'll find those who are outraged, those who are happy it happened because it shows how "evil" Dems are, those bemused by the irony (liberal media lapdogs getting kicked by the master), and those who scramble and scrape to justify it being right. I just wish the "outraged because it isn't right ever" camp were the people writing the news articles, no one else. But instead we get those who can't leave their personal convictions at the door (granted it's hard to do), or those out with a hotheaded agenda drowning out the voice of objective analysis.
Much like the comments in the article.
CNN just reported that too, I wonder if CNN has resorted to Vice President I'd Like to Fuck.com as a source.
Frog doesn't support the troops.
Sorry I haven't kept better tabs on what fell out of the governer of Alaska's box.
8. Palin was named Miss Wasilla in 1984 and was a runner-up for Miss Alaska.
Yep, she is totally fuckable. God bless America.
This announcement really feels a lot like when Sony announced motion control for PS3. Yeah, it got a lot of attention, but people ultimately saw it as a "me too" move that missed the point.
LOL! He doesn't get it.

So what exactly does this do to you guys claiming that Obama just doesn't have the experience in governing to lead? Do you now pretend you never said that since your ticket now includes someone even less experienced?
The VP doesn't lead. She (that sounds weird still) advises on areas where the President lacks experience, like running a business. Neither douchebag on the left has any idea what that even means.
You're not real are you? You're really playing a Colbert like farce on us all right?
I don't think it's a secret that a woman is not my first choice, BUT if that's what is takes to get a true conservative on the ticket, I'll concede the gender issue.
It's also going to be funny as fuck when the GOP gets the first woman elected. Feminists' heads will explode.
Chickens before they hatch.
Oh like you've never double posted before.
They needed a pro-life fiscal conservative. Clearly the gender was a bonus. I'm not claiming it didn't enter into the decision, but if there were no women that fit the first two criteria, it would have been a man.
This is as opposed to Obama. Behind closed doors at the DNC, you could hear "Pick him; He's black! Who cares that he's never done anything and has no leadership skills! He talks a good game... and IS BLACK!"
Got any blue ties picked out yet, Yoshi?
Yoshi's tried so hard his whole life to get let into the white man's club and now that they let him in he talks their talk and walks their walk.
Traitor and coward imo.
(I can be venomous too!)
:wtf:
If the Republicans do postpone their convention on account of Hurricane Gustav, they would be wise to use that extra time to secure a larger venue. The current site is embarrassingly small when compared to Mile High Stadium, and if I were a GOP strategist, I would be trying to figure something out immediately.
The disparity between the two is glaringly obvious, and while it really isn't indicative of anything meaningful, I still wouldn't want to give the press something to chew on.
You got it backwards.
Here's how I see it:
McCain: "My opponent is black with a standard issue white guy for VP. I need to be different too as two white guys won't beat one black guy and one white guy especially when the black guy is the pres. nominee. There are no good black republicans so lets try a woman to be different. Being different means you stand out and draw attention. So let's not just pick a woman but an attractive one. It also will give a chance to snag feminist votes Hillary has because she has a vag. She could have a day's worth of experience so that doesn't matter since Obama's weakness is experience. She also has to be crazy as that will appeal to fundies and neocons which don't like me much right now. As it turns out, Alaska's governor is a perfect fit. Alaska is easy mode, so they love her by default, insuring her state."
Obama: "DO YA SMEEELLLLL, WHAT BARACK, IS COOKING."
Do you guys think if Hilary was never a possible candidate, Sarah wouldn't even have been a recommendation for VP? it all just seems like a bad reality show to me and a pathetic move to steal Hilary votes (as was previously mentioned in this thread).
from Michael Ian Black.
Is that place where they had the announcement this morning where they're holding the conference? It looked like a high school gym.
No, it's in St. Paul's Xcel Energy Center (cap. 18,000). StP leans more right than Mpls btw
If Obama is smart, he'll release any ad saying "Would you trust a woman whose womb can only produce a normal, functional human being 80% of the time to be your Vice President? God forbid cancer should ravage John McCains animated corpse for the third time and this retard mom become our president.. That shit is scary yo. I'm Barack Obama and I approved this message."
Inexperienced. Wrong on the issues. Retard mom.
This ad paid for by Barack Obama

AH hahahahahahaha.
Quote:
The volatile issue of teaching creation science in public schools popped up in the Alaska governor's race this week when Republican Sarah Palin said she thinks creationism should be taught alongside evolution in the state's public classrooms.
Palin was answering a question from the moderator near the conclusion of Wednesday night's televised debate on KAKM Channel 7 when she said, 'Teach both. You know, don't be afraid of information. Healthy debate is so important, and it's so valuable in our schools. I am a proponent of teaching both.'
Hee hee hee. Hoo boy.
I'm all for teaching both too, as long as creation is tought in mythology class and not science.
Oh Snap.
From what I remember from a few months ago, we will see marked deficit improvement when the bush tax cuts end. A few days late to the debate, I know, 2 cents though.
Where is the fiscally conservative, socially liberal anti war candidate?
You're completely wrong on this issue. Al Qaeda is an international organization with a chain of command and a private treasury. The disconnects between cells are out of necessity, not lack of organization.
Oh come on dude, you really think Islamic Fundamentalists are blowing themselves up because they're deeply concerned about Global Warming?
Sarah Palin is a brilliant choice by McCain. It helps neutralize Biden as an attack dog (remember Lazio vs. Hillary?) and sets a great trap for the Obama campaign; they'll attack her inexperience, and McCain's camp can then point out that Obama's ticket is backwards (with the experienced candidate in the VP slot). This is also a great way to give Hillary a chance to campaign for McCain in stealth mode (by focusing on women's issues).
No, an anti-civil liberties pawn for the RIAA got the VP nod on the Dem side.
