I already own the GTA and Max Payne games but its nice that the Steam catalog continues to grow. Both Max Payne games for $13.45 bucks is a good deal for two quality games. I wish there was a third but Remedy is taking their time with Alan Wake.
Steam continues to get better and better.
I'm still wary of this ever since the HL2 fiasco and the shit that Valve pulled. I love steam I do, but it's become apparent that Valve have some major douchebags in the higher ups who could in turn make this service something to lament.
I'd rather try out that 007 mod in GTA SA, that mod looked bad ass
That's a steal for the gta games...
I'm tempted to get them, maybe I'll enjoy them for once if I play them on the PC.
There are all sorts of mods out for them.
GTA thrives on the PC with mods, I remember when the multiplayer mod came out, it was like a damn mini WoW community
Grand Theft Auto has always been best on PC. Particularly III and VC, as they included partial free-aiming in the console releases of SA.
By the way, the first Max Payne hasn't aged as well as you think it has.
everything is better on the PC
Unless Capcom is involved. Or sometimes Ubisoft.
Square too.
Well Lost Planet on pc is the best version...if your pc can run it in DX10 mode anyways. I expect Devil May Cry 4 on pc to be just as good if not better than the 360/PS3 versions too now that Capcom is doing the pc port themselves instead of farming it out to some crap devs. Bionic Commando on PC should be good too.
Its probly because it is the ultimate hardcore platform, I never get why people will actually get out 400$ for a damn graphics card when you could spend that on a PS3. Its because some people need that perfect controls in there games, I could careless, you give me a good controller and I'm just fine.
Is this a reference to RE4? The post-patch PC version of RE4 is probably the best version out there.Quote:

DMC3 and Onimusha 3 sound like really shitty ports, though. No gamepad support or something?
Yea, the post patch pc version of RE4 with all the great user mods make it the best version content wise. Some may prefer the Wii version because of the wiimote stuff.
DMC3, Oni 3 and all the previous pc ports were not done by Capcom internally. RE4 was hideous looking pre-patch and I think the dev team for that was from Taiwan though I could be wrong. DMC3 was just god awful especially with the controller support. The analog sticks are switched (right stick to move and left for camera!) and frankly it looks like shit anyways. Capcom's Framework engine powers all their new games (except for GRIN's Bionic Commando) and they are doing the pc stuff themselves now..thank god.
The DX10 mode in LP is bullshit, it doesn't even look better. And the awkward menus and controls that are clearly not tweaked right for kb/m (still has slow as shit aiming) and the inability to do things like tweak sensitivity make it not a great example of a quality PC port.
Yes, it's not a disaster or anything, but it's not great.Spending $400 on a video card is on the extreme side, and not really worth it, but spending $250 or so seems pretty reasonable, and will outperform a PS3 easily.
well if PC games sales keep on declining because of piracy it won't matter if a 250$ graphics card can beat the hell out of the PS3, PC gamers will start migrating to the consoles because game makers will stop making the killer aps on them. The only games that they will make will be games like WoW where you pretty much can't pirate. Even now people have found ways to pirate WoW, by playing on private servers.
This is going to be sooo awesome. ::grabs popcorn::
ugh
It really sucks that Crysis sold so few copies, something like 80,000 copies, then I heard there is something like 20,000 pirated torrent downloads that are downloaded everyday.
lol you think piracy made crysis sell poorly.
Honestly, you're right. PC gaming will always exist because it's the only open platform, but the days of high budget exclusives are dwindling because piracy makes the platform unappealing to devs.Yeah, multiplatform releases come to PC because, at least in theory, PC piracy doesn't eat into console sales, only into PC sales. So you can do a port and make some money, it's worth it, even if a lot of people pirate it.
The fact is a LOT of people still play PC games, but what's the last PC game you saw crack the top 10 in sales? How does a high profile game with positive reviews like Unreal Tournament III sell 37,000? Piracy is absolutely making the PC an unappealing platform to have an exclusive on.
Exclusives don't matter when you have the best version of every game though.
I wonder if there are any non-spun PC piracy statistics out there. I'm genuinely interested in seeing how much is pirated compared to how much is bought.
Also, isn't Steam undefeatable for the most part? I know there are the odd pirated versions of Steam games out there but I certainly haven't seen very many.
I remember Ritual talking about Sin Episode 1 piracy, for what it's worth. That's the only game I can think of, though.
Counterstrike Source was available on disc.
Well, I know that there are the odd pirated releases of Steam games out there. But they seem to be rare.
Piracy prevention isn't proven; it's disproven. And Steam hasn't been disproven.
I think the best you can get with piracy prevention is "works for the most part." Steam definitely fits that bill. It doesn't quite stop the hardcore pirates, but it works well enough to deter casual piracy.
the only true piracy deterrent is good online play.
Well now the piracy guys are going on private server to get around this, the only game this doesn't work well with is WoW, because it feeds off of that huge online community. But FPS shooters like CS and Unreal can be played on private servers with small enough matches to not detour the pirates.
you're hilarious.
My name is Opaque and I will crush you with my huge muscles and anime

You do realize that since I leave that on my profile, on purpose, I must not care about people seeing it. Right?
That picture is a joke from before you new the internet existed.
No, I didn't realize and don't care.
I'm pretty sure he wont feel that way when he's on his next flavor of the month.Quote:
You say that now, I really doubt you feel that way in 5 years when every game feels the same
This is also true, which is why PC is my game platform of choice. But the point was still to be acknowledged. Piracy is hurting PC gaming in a way that has major repercussions.Steam is most certainly not undefeatable. Their are incentives to having a legit version, like all the automatic updates and free content and all, but every steam exclusive I know of has been pirated.
