Yeah, 60 player multiplayer doesn't interest me very much. Though the 8 player co-op on the other hand seems really fucking awesome. The more the merrier as far as co-op goes, so long as the co-op campaign is designed around the idea that there will be 8 people playing at once.
The one thing I ask is for Insomniac to bump up the intensity as far as what happens in the campaign. There were no memorable experiences for me in the first game (besides maybe the last level), and while the gameplay mechanics and production value were solid, that really soured the experience for me.
