Even things as fantastic as dragons are just combinations of natural animals. IronPlant. Stop. You're not making a good point. You already admit that most supernatural claims come from misinterpretation or misrepresentation of natural phenomena. Is it any wonder then that most ancient religions were nature oriented? People look out from their caves and see this big bright thing in the sky which brings warmth and light to everything around them. How do they explain this? They have no concept of what a star is. So they come up with the idea of a deity, or rather something they perceive as powerful and elusive that they can point to as the cause of all things they cannot easily explain.
No, there is not something strange and mystical about the concept of a 'god' being in the consciousness of man. The idea that because we can conceive of god that it must therefore exist is a eye-rollingly weak logical argument that has been floated long before you (lol @ you if you thought you just came up with this) and like so many others capsized immediately.

Seriously; yes, people back then were biologically as smart as us today. If you got a baby back then and transported them in a Delorean to nowadays and brought them up now they'd probably turn out just to be as smart if not smarter than us.
But human technology, culture and understanding has evolved since then, and your perceptions of what you sense can only be interpreted through the eyeglass of your knowledge.

Finding the stance that many of you base your beliefs on, and the limited range and scope you all use to be interesting is not asserting that one thing is true or not. I just find the whole thing mighty curious.
