Why aren't you banned again yet?
Same with Cave. It's kind of weird to realize.Quote:
You know that Treasure has never once in their history published a game?
Xbox everything lost them billions last generation. Their only profitable quarter was the quarter Halo 2 launched. This generation is probably better to them 'cause they aren't taking a massive hit on the hardware (I don't know that OG Xbox ever sold for a profit) and software sales (licensing) have been really good. I still expect they're in the red this gen, and definitely still a ways away from making money overall.
Regardless, wouldn't you say that their overall plan for the systems is to eventually become profitable?
Obviously they want them to be profitable--I'm sure they're not excited about bleeding dollars--but I don't know if their ultimate plan is to make money on video games or to establish the brand outside of PC and control the living room like they do the office. You could ask Bill Gates, but I doubt he'd tell you :)
Nintendo is soley a gaming company, they make there consoles and make it so that the best games on them are always made by them. They have been doing the whole gaming thing since the beginning and have learned how to make a living off of it.
No, like I said they know that the damn things won't sell enough, it's all to get your name out there. Word of mouth is the cheapest and best way to assert your self in a competive market.
MarkRyan is the main walkthrough and cheat editor for IGN. I think I know who I'll listen to when it comes to the inside scene of video games.
The only person who could convince me you're right is Master.
The OG Xbox sold at a loss, they didn't lose money because "the damn things won't sell enough" they lost money because the units did sell, but for less then they were made for.
You really have no idea what the fuck you are talking about.
so what you fucking point, you haven't proved me wrong with anything you just said, I think the fact of the matter is that you have your head so far up your ass that you forgot to stop and smell the fucking roses. Look they would love for the thing to hit big, but they knew when they went into it that it had a good chance at not hitting its stride.
Microsoft had money to burn and Bill Gates was bored, so he made a gaming device that him and his budies could play over the internet with ease. Also I am really offended that you declined my friend request.
Yes, I did.
It is a big hit, they've sold 18 million Xbox 360 and 24 million OG Xboxs; Sega never sold more than 13 million of any of it's consoles. Also, for the record, when you put Sony into the equation you were really being a fucking moron since the PS2 sold 120 million and the PSX sold 100 million units; all at a gain.
I just don't even know how to respond to this.
Why the living fuck would I want to be your friend on Live?
Opaque-
1. you never proved squat
2.I was talking about the PS3 and 360
3.I was being sarcastic

Ubisoft is pretty alright. I don't care much for the Tom Clancy stuff, but I love everything Michel Ancel does, they publish some neat import games that no one else will touch (Senko no Ronde and Advance Guardian Heroes), and they're working with Frederick Raynal on his next game.
I don't like Splinter Cell any more than you do, but Ubi's earned some credit over the years, I think. They're not in my top 5, but of the international mega-publishers, I like them a lot better than the likes of EA, Atari, and Activision.
They for sure lost money their first year, and while they're almost certainly making money off the hardware now and raking it lots on licensing, I dunno if it outweighs their losses on marketing / investment and the RROD debacle. With how conservative they've been this year (not at all aggressive on price versus PlayStation 3), I wouldn't at all be surprised if they're making profits finally (but I think their lack of aggression will hurt them long-term).
I give 'em credit for some of the overseas stuff they've chosen to publish, but as far as development I've got no respect for them.
Not even for Ubi Montpellier? Beyond Good and Evil is so good. Ubi Shanghai can die, and Montreal is hit or miss, but I love their Montpellier studio.
There's a rumor floating around that Frederick Raynal (designer of Relentless and Alone in the Dark) is working with Ancel on a Beyond Good and Evil game, and if that's true it will be the greatest thing to ever happen to the human race.
I plead ignorance on Montpelier--I haven't played Rayman 2 or Beyond Good and Evil. Both games turn me off with their art style so I never attempted to play them.
I take it I should play Dreamcast Rayman 2 if I play any version. I remember some praise for it. Or is the PC version any better?
Rayman 2 was the first game to out-Mario 64 Mario 64, and BG&E was the first to out-Zelda Zelda. Very, very playable games.
The art style is very, very European, but I like it. Probably helps to have some affection for Amiga-era computer games.
And hell, I love Relentless and that has the worst art style ever.DC Rayman is definitely the best of the ones I played. I don't recall there being any complaints with the PC one, though. PC BG&E is jacked though (no controller support).
Meh, I doubt they are in the red, they make be making it look that way. Creative accounting FTW
I think Shanghai is getting better. Splinter Cell: Double Agent had some absolutely fantastic levels in the JBA HQ. Those levels are the first time I have seen a game go beyond simple stealth to something more closely resembling what a real spy would do - blend in but acquire documents and other information whenever possible. The level set in Shanghai (heh) was also pretty spectacular. Scrambling from shadow to shadow in between fireworks was amazing.
As for Ubisoft Montreal, I really don't understand how anyone could hate Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. That was the single best game I played last generation. I can admit that the rest of their games aren't for everyone.
PC Rayman 2 has a draw-in issue with the Lums. It's a real pain to track them all down when you can't see them until you're really close. It's sort of like how Mario 64's coins popped in, only a little more annoying. The Dreamcast version is definitely the best.
Do you have a source for this rumour? That sounds absolutely incredible... plus I'd like a reason to bump my pipe-dream BG&E2 thread.
Indeed. I think it's one of the few 3d sequels to a old 2d franchises that manages to surpass the old games. Also, does Ubi own Gameloft, the other Montreal studio that did Prince of Persia Classic on XBLA? That was really well made, too.Quote:

BG&E is a hell of a game. I don't like euro designs much, but it didn't bother me at with this game.
I tried really hard to like BG&E. Doesn't do it for me.
I was never a fan of invisible barriers in video games, and BG&E had more than you could throw a stick at.
Are you at home posting instead of in school not learning because of MLK, Jr. day? I hate that fucking "holiday" even more now.
Sorry for the mis-spelling, it was late last night, I fixed it so stop bitching
Yeah, I didn't feel he was worth fully correcting that mess.
So, Granderoho, what kind of pictures do you have of your boss or his family? Affair? Daughter?
Do it, peer pressure is a bitch
how about we get back on track?
I'd like to add capcom for making Street Fighter and RE series so great, also for distributing the GTA franchise in Japan and making a great attempt at making it popular.
That would be the hit side of hit or miss. Splinter Cell would be the miss side. Haven't played Assassin's Creed and looking forward to seeing how Far Cry 2 shapes up.
The part about Raynal working with Ancel on Ubi Montpellier's next game is not a rumor, but a fact, but it being BG&E2 is speculation based on comments Ancel has made and the fact that Raynal was a major influence on BG&E. The game they're making is officially top-secret and should be revealed at E3.Quote:

I r bidness major or baboon, 1 of the 2.
No, that's not the topic... just the subject of that one post of mine. My point was that Microsoft has built quite the shaky software situation for the Xbox brand.
Yoshi: Ah, gotcha. I agree with you then. I love Project Gotham and Kameo, but there's not much else that's completely MS on the 360. Compared to Sony, it's woefully lacking in developers.
Wasn't Fable made by microsoft, that was a decent game. IMO Sony and Nintendo are way better than Microsoft, but Microsoft isn't bad by any means.
Shit, you're right. Lol.
Kameo sure did rock though!
Atlus USA - Spot-on localizations, frequent soundtrack inclusion, and nice cover art. I didn't care for Persona 3, but I do like its packaging.
UFO - A small publisher that takes chances. I like that.
CAPCOM - Forget the dozens of portable Megaman games, the atrocious box art of the NES era, and (if you can) sacking Clover, CAPCOM USA has since atoned for its sins. They had the moxy to release Killer 7 and No More Heroes, and handed the Capcom Classics v 2 SSF2T port and SF2HD to exactly the right guy in David Sirlin. The American branch also had the courtesy...nay, the decency to combine (the individually released in Japan) SF2AE and SF3:Third Strike in a $30 package.
Hudson - Published great shooters and the Bonk series in the 90's. Also, their Hudson Selection line epitomizes how remakes should be approached -- with love and a cheap price tag.
Working Designs - If you've made it this far, you probably just groaned, sighed, or rolled your eyes. You may have even done more than one. That's okay; that's a normal and acceptable reaction. Sure, they demanded outrageous prices for useless trinkets, like the infamous Lunar 1 stinky cloth map and the throwaway Arc the Lad cardboard figurines. Then there's The Working Designs Delays. That's a valid complaint, too. And did I mention that they ruined Silhoutte Mirage?
But the good outweighs the bad. This is the company that made the Sega CD worth owning, remastered every frame of every cutscene in the Lunar : SSSC and whose translation of that game made it palatable (try trudging through UbiSoft's Lunar Legend GBA), held an Elemental Gearbolt score attaack contest in which the winner was awarded a gold-plated Guncon, and let fans design the disc art for the Lunar 1 PSX reprint. Plus, look at their body of work for TG-16/Duo. Just look at it. It's obvious that WD loved videogames and their fans. Their love was just a little...misguided.
Wow. You just let every bad choice off the hook with WD.
Also, Hudson is now owned by Konami.
Yeah, I knew what you meant, and you were right. I was tying it to what Melf was talking about with my comment about Lionhead.
Hopefully Too Human will be good, it's sad that lots of publications were shooting it down in there previews.
Damn. That's another example of Microsoft publishing a third-party (Silicon Knights) game.
Add KOTOR
Why buy the cow when you get the milk for free?
It's a good strategy, provided no one else buys the cow.
It's just the formal adaptation of distribution to the video game market.
They don't touch the engineering product, they just package it and ship it for a profit. It's a beautiful thing.
I didn't particularly mind the expensive rubbish they packaged with their games, and I could tolerate the delays. The only one that really stung was the Silhoutte Mirage difficulty tampering. If they saw fit to "rebalance" (WD-speak for "ruining) it, they should've at least included an option to toggle the original difficulty.
And WD is now defunct. I was referring to the Hudson before they were bought out. I don't much care for Konami from a publishing standpoint.Quote:

Ninja Gaiden series and Alane Wake are good examples
No and yes. Ninja Gaiden was published by Tecmo I believe.
Yes Tecmo.
He's trying.
Can we just write off Alan Wake as a miscarriage and stop wondering about it?
That's the most interesting thing Microsoft has in their stable because it's already been announced for PC.
I wish MS would announce Halo Wars for PC. There's no part of me that wants to play it with a controller.
I wonder if they really think PC sales hurt Xbox sales. If not, I wish they'd just do dual development on all this stuff. I'd love to have GFW Gears 2 at the same time the 360 gets it. Cross-platform play would be awesome.
the second one is being published by microsoft and being developed by Tecmo.

Alane Wake has a chance, and looks like it's going to be on the lines of being as good as Uncharted, they look like comparable games.
LOL
You would only be right if the entire Ninja Gaiden series were published by Microsoft.
It wasn't?
Thread derailed. It's hard to imagine why Granderoho was banned.
LOL, microsoft sent the terminator back in time to take over the ninja gaiden series.
Oh, oh, attacking yourself is an offense on TNL.
A lot of people on this site are like Doogie Howser smart when it comes to video games man, just try to read up on some of the stuff before you post. They are like a pack of wolves and you are a ham sammich. I think you'll be okay, but just watch the blanket statements.
I can tell, I really used to play all the old Ninja Gaidens, but I just forgot about them for some unknown reason.
Granderoho, what does it smell like under Bailey's wing? I imagine it to smell like Axe® For Men.
Polo Blue® today!
Alright let's not get carried away...
I'm going to take a break and post less, and try to critique my posts since alot of time's I post from my cellphone.
Everyone might stop hating you if you do that.
Doubtful.
I said might.
I like him more the more he posts.
But cellphone-based posting + terrible grammer = bad mojo
Grammar isn't the same thing as spelling.
Isn't it? Isn't it?
