Let's not start talking about Cheebs and his whole giant Rock Band failure again before I start getting pissed off.
So I was at a Guitar Center this morning buying some finger picks, and Rock Band 360 was $99 bucks for the bundle.
lol @ Cheebs, sorry man. :D
still under rumor, but it seems sony is working on getting mirrors edge as a ps3 timed exclusive.

I think that'd be a bad move for EA. Sony might cut them a good check, but it will sap the momentum out of a new IP, which isn't good.
Sonic sucks though. I hope this is good.
A lo tof the biggest gaming IPs in the world were born system-exclusive. It's not as easy this day and age. I will say that if this game doesn't get rave, amazing reviews I will not even look twice at it when it comes out on 360. There's a certain amount of pre-buying a decent to okay game can rake in on hype. Not hitting the market all at once can ruin that, so EA must be confident this is a game people will want to pay for. I consider that a great sign.
But being exclusive to a weaker system like that is just going to mean that the game will be old news by the time 75% of the people that could potentially be playing it get the opportunity.
I know. We've talked about this before. This looks fun. And frustrating.
SO WHEN DOES THE DEMO DROP TO XBL?
this is one of those rare games that actually gives me chills watching the video.
Maybe this isn't a timed PS3 exclusive after all: http://buttonmasher.co.nz/2008/08/25...usive-for-ps3/
Or maybe EA just doesn't want to announce it yet. SCEE execs are pretty notorious for spilling information. Or maybe this is only for Europe. Who knows...
not a PS3 timed exclusive, but DLC exclusive to PS3.

Second story trailer is out. Apparently that's how all of the between-level cutscenes will look like. Flashback and Another World inspired this style.
The trailer also finally tells us that Solar Fields composed the music. I think I'm going to check out their discography.
Anyway, this is the last trailer I'm going to watch for Mirror's Edge. The game is a must-buy for me and there's no need to have anything else revealed.
By the way, is anyone actually going to bother with the $130 LE that comes with a messenger bag? Personally, I think it looks considerably worse than the Gamestop pre-order bonus identical to the in-game bag.
Yeah, I know that it's going to be more functional, but does the market for a high-end messenger bag really overlap with the market for the game?
1Up has a lot of new footage up and it's a segment in the 1Up show. It looks fantastic, the lighting has come a long way.
Every new trailer for this game makes me more and more impressed.
I think I am with bVork ... no more trailer watching for me. What I've seen so far has made this a game I MUST-BUY.
I like LEs, but the Mirror's Edge one is pointlessly overpriced. I expect a quick price drop if it's not a truly limited LE, Halo 3 style.
James
Mirror's Edge looks worth $60 pretty easily, but if Timbuk2 bags cost that much then I guess I have to aim the "pointlessly overpriced" comment directly at that. $85 for a bag? It'd better have a lifetime warranty and be certified in all components to carry roughly 500 pounds at all times for that kind of money.
James
Here's a product description from the Timbuk2 website.
It's a good waterproof bag primarily targeted for bicycle messengers whose requirements for a good bag is a bit stricter than your average consumer. You'll have to decide if that's enough to warrant the higher price point.Quote:
Originally built for hard-working messengers, the Classic Messenger Bag has been in production for 19 years. Known for its long-lasting, rugged durability and distinctive three-panel, multi-color design, the Classic Messenger has been adopted in cities around the world as the everyday, all-purpose carryall. It features a ballistic nylon exterior and waterproof liner, and remains the bag-of-choice for bicycle messengers, cycling enthusiasts and urban dwellers everywhere.
Ah, professional grade, that explains it. I was picturing consumer-level where you're paying for the brand name, like most of the crap sold in every mall in the country. It'd be worth the higher price point if I was in the market for a bag of that durability, but as a promo item it's more than I need.

PS3/Zboz demo tommorow/Friday, respectively.
Best week ever?
Holy shit.
Sweet. This is one game I am really looking forward to try out. So far this game seems to be full of win.
Not sure if this has been post already, but it seems to be a new gameplay movie. Can't wait for tomorrow.
mirrors edge = officially hottttttttttt
dayyyy 1 even more confirmed.
Just gave the demo a good run. Thought it was pretty gerd dern sweet. Day one for me too, and I vowed not to buy too many games this holiday season.
what the fuuuuck.
Yeah, this game is fucking awesome. It plays far better than I could have imagined. Day 1, sold.
Demo was pretty damn awesome. This wasn't even on my radar this fall, but now it may just have to be a day 1 for sure.
This is pretty much what I imagined what it would be like, so it's awesome. Once you get the hang of the controls I can see some amazing shit happening. It's like a first person evolution of Assassins Creeds' movement.
I just got finished playing the demo and looking at screen shots and movies I just couldn't see how this game could be in first person. Kept saying it would be better third person, but I must say they did a damn good job making it first person and it's perfect just as it is. Makes me want to get this game when it comes out and hope I have time to play it.
Just echoing everything good that's been said about the demo. This is a day one purchase for me.
I've spent a good hour and a half playing time trial mode already. This game brings back the good memories of Stuntman (and not the bad ones, thankfully).
This game is made out of style and win.
Really love it, not sure if day one though, not doubting the game in anyways it's more like depending on the financial situation with the wallet. @_@
But yeah, so happy they brought the demo out, and have to give Dice here credit for trying something different, and imo they did a really nice job.
Don't know why . but playing the game just wants me to open up Illustrator and start doing damage with vectors. Especially the selection menu where you see the city with what seems like vector/3d buildings with no textures. Such a nice and easy concept yet affective.
Great demo. The character movements flow wonderfully. I don't care how short the full game is...I could see playing this over and over just to pull off better running lines and disarms. Dice is great, but look how smart EA has been lately -- setting aside its $300M losses.
EA has really turned a corner in the past few years.
The sensation of movement in the demo was amazing. Camera wasn't overly jerky or exagerated, it seemed just right. I like that you can see your hands and legs too. That sort of solidifies you and your movements in the world. The physics of the character makes sense, and it all leads to a really immersive experience.
This is awesome.
Yeah, looks good. PC version doesn't hit until January so that gives me time for the 2793697236 other things coming out this year.
I really wish they would have stylized the character models a bit more, that chunky bump-mapped UE3 look seems really out of place laid against the sterilized flat tones of the city. IMO they should have gone with something slightly more akin to Rock Band's character models, with more distinct lines and smooth textures.
Can't say anything bad about what I played. As long as the difficulty's there, I'm down. Maybe day one, but I'm saving money lately.
I don't see anything wrong with the character models.
Didn't care for the controls much. I thought especially the right stick shouldn't act as it does in most FPS games, but instead should move the view in the direction you point, so if you pull back, it'll turn the character around to face in the opposite direction. The default method feels really slow for such a fast paced game.
Maybe it's just not for me.
I really loved the stylized intro.
Oh, and the demo, too. Worth the wait.
I just played the demo for a second and it was sufficently awesome.has anyone taken out all of the cops yet? I still have to map my mental reactions to the new kind of combat system But yeah the combat system is freakin amazing so far. Its simple, elegant, and you can do a ton with it. Pulling off a sequence of moves makes you feel funny in the pants.
That wouldn't make sense at all, since you will need to look up and down while playing the game. Plus RB is quick turn, which works extremely well, and makes sense with LB being jump for doing stuff like a 180 wall jump. I thought the game controlled spot on. I turned up the sensitivity slightly and everything works extremely well.
For OPTIMAL control, the developer SHOULD HAVE USED TWO CONTROLLERS. This silly thoughts of "accessibility" and "fun" should have been thrown to the side!
See, one controller should be placed at the players feet, and the second in the hands. The player must use his toes to pull and push the analog sticks back and forth in a steady motion, but alternating so's not to fall. To jump, the player should stand and, for an added stamina bonus, shout "WOOOOOOOO!" into the communicator mic.
The other controller is held standard, with the two analog sticks swinging at the same tempo as the legs to avoid stumbling or whacking walls like a ninny. Spiked Transvibrator in the pants to simulate landing ass-first in barbed wire sold separately.
Thanks for ruining the thread, Chao.
Ruined it? Or made it better?

I want this game so bad.
I tried out the PS3 version last night, and enjoyed it a lot. I was thinking today it would be sweet if there were a level editor and a replay editor, sort of like Skate's, but I'm pretty sure no one's said anything about those sort of features.
Can we talk about how awesome the music is in this game? Cuz in the demo, I thought it was freakin' perfect. And if that's an indication of the rest of the game, then I may end up purchasing the soundtrack.
I like that the main theme is called "Still Alive"
So this is like 1st person Assassin's Creed then? Main character design is uggo >_<
Buuuuut, it's first person, so it doesn't matter. : )
I like her split-toe shoes anyway. That's pretty much all that matters.
What's with the owls? Is that an artist's block thing?
Actually, the original version of the song was instrumental. It's called Shine, by Alcorus.
Played the demo. My god how awesome. My mom even liked the game. She was ducking when I would slide under stuff.
Haha. That's awesome. I love playing games around older people who don't play games. They usually have great reactions, and I get a kick out of it.
Side note, I really REALLY hope this game is available for purchase on Tuesday. I don't think it will be, but does anyone know for sure? I ain't got shit to do on Tuesday, and it's supposed to be a cold, rainy Fall day in Chicago - which means it's a perfect day to sit inside and play games.
Crap so soon?
Damn it! I have this on pre-order.
The demo is pretty sweet. I remember being worried that initial screens shown for this game were touched up or even concept art but it actually does look that way. The combo of unique movement and surreal art direction make this on my must-buy list.
Prettiest game.... ever?
or... is it?
...who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men?
The Shadow knows!
Also, this wasn't even on my radar until I tried the demo. Now I'm torn between this, Left 4 Dead, or Last Remnant this month. My friends tried it and made it look enar unplayable but I gave it a whirl and it was just too much fun. Also a very, very short demo.
They ___cockteased the audience with the demo.
Mine should be here in a day or 2, I'm ridiculously pumped to play this game. Even though it's supposed to be pretty short (7 - 10 hours), I can't wait to actually play something different for a change.
A lot of people are saying this game is around Heavenly Sword's length. I usually don't mind that when there's heavy replay to be found but I feel like this would be much better as a rental.
Worst case scenario I can buy it later anyway.
I'm looking forward to playing this. I'm not worried about the game length. I squeeze at least 20 hours out of just about any game I like, either by multiple play-throughs, time trials, etc. I've already played the demo alone for a couple of hours, so I'm sure the full game will have plenty to offer.
if you dont have this yet, please get it.
Chapter 1 was awesome.
This looks better than I thought from the GT review I saw but I have a strong feeling I will be able to get this brand new for $40 or less before Christmas.
The game is definitely fun, but I seem to agree with all of the reviews I have read saying that all of the great ideas in the game have just as many poorly implemented ones.
I'm on chapter 5 I believe, and combat is very poorly implemented. Disarms, even when in slow mo, tend to work only like 70% of the time. The level design is very very inconsistent. There are some truly brilliant platforming parts on rooftops with multiple routes that emphasize this games speed and flow. Yet at the same time there are some god awful indoor environments that take everything that is good about the game (combat, speed, and improvisation) and turn it into a "ok, let me look around to try and find the next platform I should jump onto".
What I do love about the game is that it plays like nothing you have ever played before. And for every annoying part of the game I have found, it throws me a curve ball and really really impresses me. The subway chase to be exact, god damn was that awesome. This is definitely a game everyone should check out soon or later. But as far as I'm concerned, and seeing that I was anticipating this game just as much as many other of the awesome games coming out, there's no need to rush into buying this one.
MEH. I still stand by my impressions posted above. Just finished the game, and for every awesome part of the game, there's some horribly tedious or just flat out not fun part of the game that completely cancels out the awesome that had just happened. They needed more rooftop runner chases and rooftop sniper fire dodging acrobatics and less indoors pseudo platforming boringness.
This is definitely getting traded in for Left 4 Dead.
I encourage everyone to at least rent this game. Like Brand X says, it plays like nothing else you've ever played before. But the real longevity of the game comes from the time trials. Consider the story mode an extended time trial tutorial (although the story stands on its own merits). The tedious parts become a lot more exciting when you're trying to beat your own best times, and move up on the leaderboard. Once you know what you're doing, you're no longer standing around looking for things to grab; you're concentrating on looking like a badass.
I have to agree with Sleeve. I'm hooked. Brand's criticisms are fair, but the indoor sections and areas of trial and error repetition didn't bother me at all. Perhaps a bit analogous to Gunvalkyrie in that you may muddle through some parts (a lot of parts, possibly), but once you understand Faith's real range and the level layout, you can get an amazing groove going. That said, the free flowing rooftop bits are usually the best levels. Haven't even touched time trials yet, so notions of limited game length are once again unfounded...for me anyway. Bravo to DICE for making something fresh.
I think this game is good but not great thanks to all the inconsistencies. Runner's vision should be more prevalent, since it simply is not fun to stop and try to figure out exactly where to go next. The hint button is often useless since Faith will just look at the ceiling or turn around and look at where you just were. The controls also seem to be a little inconsistent. I've had perfect time trial runs screwed up because Faith decided not to wallrun. The level design needed more rooftop shenanigans and less running through confined office areas. I was also pretty pissed off with the section where you first have to break glass to proceed. Before that section, all the glass you came across was unbreakable. I don't like it when games change the rules like that. Oh, and the game is definitely short. I played it for a few hours yesterday and I'm halfway through it.
Still, Mirror's Edge is definitely worth a rental. It doesn't perfectly implement all of the concepts it contains, but it does play like nothing else I have ever seen.
In the 1up review, they mentioned something to the effect that this almost feels like it's just setting up for or begging to have a sequel. Anyone agree with that?
Am I the only one stumped by the TV ad? The camera is behind the chick as she looks at her reflection in the glass. The bullet hits in the middle of her face reflection, from behind.......but doesn't hit her.
I always thought the bullet was coming from the side, and just happened to hit right between the eyes of her reflection.
She's an illusion.
I want to try this, but it's going on the backburner until it price drops a couple times.
Yeah...waiting for the price drop on this one.
Here's a vid of a speed run in one of the early Chapters. Aside from the fact that it's a very good run, I post it to show how the game progresses. A typical first run through this Chapter is pretty slow and painful in certain parts -- staring around, figuring out where the hell to go, missed jumps, clunky fights with guards and probably dying...a lot. None of these things bothered me as I enjoyed puzzling out the levels. The point is, however, that aside from time trials (which are very cool achievement-oriented obstacle courses based on segments from all of the Chapter), beating the game on any difficultly unlocks "speedruns" of all Chapters. Along with time trials, these are where you really master the game and get on with your bad self. Achievements are earned for completing the run under the stated time limits. This vid is obviously a SPOILER for the Chapter [3, I think]. The thing is, it's so smooth and fast that watching this vid once will be of almost no help to anyone playing through the game on a first try.
Edit: If it wasn't clear, blazing through the level along the most efficient path and making it look so effortless is very challenging, and the whole point of the game.
He killed twice though :o
If you're not going to try and run past them (not always possible), bullets are usually the fastest way to get past enemy.
So is anyone playing this? I'm at Chapter 6 so far and think it's great.
Looks marvelous and plays pretty good, too. The controls take some getting used to and I find the cutscenes (the anime/cel shaded ones) kind of cheesy, but aside from that no complaints.
There's too much other shit to play now to care enough to go crazy trying to play every game I want to. I'll wait for post-holiday price drops or pick shit up used in January.
Truth truth. I'll be honest, the pre-order bonus is mostly what swayed me into taking a chance and buying this. But it's still very good, even with all the releases bombarding November (and maybe December).
Heh, yeah. I'm at a point now where I have to fend off 4 guards with an array of either machine guns or shotguns and it's pretty impossible. I must not be getting something (it's right after falling down that dropping that metal lift in the narrow yellow area). Worth a shot when I'm not as sleepy, I suppose.Quote:

It almost feels like a shmup in some respects. Restarting over and over until you've perfected the art to a T.
