Nah this isn't something I consider really disruptive. It should have it's own thread but it's interesting enough that I could care either way. :)

That's not even close to what I implied, much less said.
Let's go over it again -
One point.Quote:
one large selling point
One, as in, one among others.
One, as in, not the only.
And nowhere did I even allude to us all having played the game in the arcade first.
The use of the word "people" as a plural noun only indicates more than one person and doesn't denote us all.Quote:
People wanted to play the arcade game at home
Need any more clarification?
Gradius 1 had a ranking system. I'm pretty sure there's a game that pre-dates it, but that's the oldest game I can think of offhand that has dynamic difficulty.
I always forget Mech is a mod.
Time to beat the dynamic difficulty horse one more time. Astrosmash on Intellivision (released in 1981) has very blatant dynamic difficulty adjustment - it gets harder based on the amount of asteroids you hit and easier if you start missing a lot or die.
That's awesome. I wish I'd played that.
Astrosmash ruled. I remember how exciting it was when the background changed to a new color you hadn't seen before upon reaching a new high score plateau. I think white was the last new color before it turned back to the first level's black.
Long gone are the days when a background changing from blue to white could arouse such excitement.
