odd, is the fact that i don't remember penalty calls sucking as much when we had less striped shirts on the ice. of course back then he didn't have hooking and diving calls on the same goddamned play.
Actually on occasion they would make that call. But you are right, before the two ref system it was alot easier for the ref to manage the flow of the game, since he was doing it on his own.
i thought diving was just incorperated this year or the last.
No, diving has always been a penalty. But its always been considered a huge embarrassment to the players when its called, so the refs have always tried to avoid calling it. When they absolutely had to call it though they'd usually call the hook as well, because again thats not as embarrassing. I'm not saying its smart, I'm saying thats how they did it.
that makes no sense. i'm not saying you're wrong, i'm just saying a dive is a dive. i don't see how it's any less embarassing to call a hook and a dive than it is to just call a dive. they still call it. in fact i've always thought it was complete bullshit to call them on the same play.
I completely agree. I'm saying thats whats done, not that it is right or that it makes sense.
Though I don't like the hook/hold/trip and dive being called on the same play, there are instances where it is a appropriate. If a guy is legitimately hooked/held/tripped but also embellishes the effect, then it could be the right call.
There's entirely too much talk about officiating in this and the other NHL thread. That speaks for itself, I suppose.
