Jesus Christ!
I had no idea Todd was a BMF.
The ending tonight made me feel numb and sick to my stomach. The dude waves back and pulls out a gun? That was some psycho fuckery.
Yeah kid wouldn't have known what was going on let alone anyone he told about it. A missing kid, however brings heat. If his parents knew where he liked to ride they could end up searching the area and catching wise. It wasn't the smart move.
Of course the only one any of them could finger is Bill Burr.
I don't think Walt is really motivated by greed, just power. That, and self-actualization. He'd been a meek functionary his entire adult life until he started cooking meth.
Walt has had a series of morality gut checks throughout the series. Dealing with those dead bodies in season 1, Jesse's girlfriend and Wayfarer 515 in season 2, saving Jesse from those dealers and killing Gale in season 3, and of course Gus in season 4.
Walt has realized -- and I keep going back to his meeting with Mike in season 3 -- that there are no half-measures in this business. You either go all in, or you get busted. Jesse will either make the same realization, or Walt will have to kill him.
It's interesting how the fifth season is less GoodFellas and more Godfather Part II.
In the beginning I was all, ok... what is this kid going to find?? Nothing! then at the end I completely forgot about him because Ooooh boy! Old fashion train robbery! Then... oh.
All very good points, but hasn't money been the first and primary motivator? It's how he rationalizes what he does, money is the goal. Of course that was Walt's initial thought process, we're watching Heisenberg now. He is all in (as seen by filling the tank last night), his actions and comments show that he has no intention of ever stopping.
I'm really curious about Todd now. We know nothing about him and he reacted to the visitor shockingly fast. It makes me wonder if Mike gave him the gun and what he was told to use it. Mike is stone cold, doesn't want any loose ends. Poor Jesse, he's trying to keep his soul clean, comes up with this plan to keep from killing anyone and then the worst thing happens. What an avoidable disaster.
