How accurate is the data?
As accurate as it can get. For each set of statistics we perform extensive research and data mining in order to bring the most authoritative, comprehensive, and timely information to be displayed on the counter. For more information on sources and references, please click on the text link for each set of statistics (e.g. cars produced this year)
How does it work?
The counters are based on a Java script code that processes the latest statistical data available, estimated progression and latest major developments, bringing it down to the second. The algorithm is processed with reference to the time on your PC. If you change the date on your PC you will be able to check the numbers at a specific point in time. As with any statistical data, numbers are not a 100% accurate reflection of the phenomenon, but they nevertheless provide an informative description of it.
How is "today" calculated?
The counters use your computer's clock, so "today" means the total number for that data set starting from the beginning of the current day as calculated on your computer's clock. If you are curious to learn the number of HIV-infected in 2050 then just change your system time to 2050. It will calculate values based on current interesting statistics and demographic data. Do not use for exact calculations.
So, it's not census data, but it's a lot more accurate than I thought it was when I first looked at it.

Give me some manly stats like "max bench press increase due to protein gained from red meat consumption". Or something uplifting like "jobs saved by speeding on the interstate to get to an important meeting on time".
But all of the stats on that page are bleeding-heart crap like "kittens killed by evil farmers eroding the topsoil by spraying genetically engineered pesticide - 1,599,333,555,654,544 and climbing too fast to see" and then we're all supposed to be like "That's terrible! I don't even know how farmers can be legal in any civilized world!"
But I do enjoy watching the counter that tells me when a teenager pops out another baby.

There is no reliable blood test for a good number of the STDs you can get. So it you can't see it, they can't tell you whether you have it or not.
