Speaking of Martys:

Also, how freakin' slick are these:
http://www.the-nextlevel.com/tnl/att...5&d=1336005888
UK Dr. Marten Langstons with a shiny black "petrol" finish. I could never pull 'em off.
No prob! The shiny ones are cute but imo they don't age too well - they look fabulous in pictures but once they get creased and worn, like good shoes should, they lose their luster and get kind of grody.
They look like wrestling boots IMO.
Well, sure, if the only other thing you're wearing is a Speedo.
I'd obviously be reppin' those with slacks.
I'm a groomsmen in an upcoming wedding. I don't own any suits but I'll need a black one. Any recommendations? Looking for a slim cut and I'm a 36s. I see Brooks Brothers has a buy 2 sale which I could utilize since I have two weddings in a row. Was also looking at the J.Crew Ludlow (if I can find on sale) or eHABERDASHER has one for $499. Otherwise this weekend I may hit up Nordstrom Rack for sales.
If you don't wear suits all day and just need one in a pinch.
Men's Wearhouse or Jos. A Bank; those two always have Buy1/get1 or Buy 1/Get2.
But if you want a suit that'll last ... your options are better (ie: Brooks Brothers).
Finding a good slim cut suit can be difficult, it's good that you're starting your search early. Don't forget about H&M if you have one in your area, sometimes they can be helpful in the suit department for something that is modern looking and not too terribly expensive.
It's difficult? No it isn't. Club Monaco, D&G, Calvin Klein, Armani, BOSS, Hilfiger, John Varvatos (ESPECIALLY!), and LAUREN Ralph Lauren all give you amazing (!) slim cut suit options. You can get them in wool, tweed, or cotton. If you want a more affordable option, Club Monaco ain't bad but if you want even cheaper you can go H&M or Top Shop. The only limits here are how lazy the buyer feels or how poor he is.
If you get a slim lapel jacket, remember to get a small collar for the slim tie. I don't have one and I look a bit silly with my thin tie getting lost in the collar. I think wide-spread collars are the thing now, too.
I also forgot about Brooks Brothers. If they, the long-standing formalwear makers for older men, even know that slim is in for everyone pls blv every single fashion house has a slim suit option. And really, you cannot go wrong with Brooks Brothers now since they stopped making all their suits for your dad and started to focus on clothes for younger men. If you insist on a black suit, buy another one either navy blue (meh) or grey (a light grey and highly recommended) for some diversity in your wardrobe. Really, a black suit is for funerals. Any other occasion you should be wearing a different colored suit so you don't look like a drab motherfucker.
Unless, of course, you're punk as fuck and can make a black suit look like the most fashionable thing in the room. I doubt you are, though.
That is mostly an impossible endeavor in the south. Almost all dress pants, suit or no suit are pleated. You can be rail thin and still look a little pudgy.
Buying dress clothes here, is depressing.
http://www.the-nextlevel.com/tnl/att...1&d=1337805651
Get your measurements. Order a suit from somewhere that doesn't suck online. Get it tailored. The end.
You forgot the part where you shove it up your ass.
i clicked on cheeks post and its ridiculous. The dudes in that picture are not wearing pleated pants.
i didn't even mean to
Surely you jest.
Thanks for the advice. Will have to keep the lapel width in mind since a slim black tie is required.
A light grey suit would be my ideal first choice. Unfortunately, both weddings are asking me to wear black. This is why I'm thinking of going for a buy 2 deal as I know the black one is never going to get used again other than for funerals.
Wear one to both weddings, why not? You don't need separate suits. People will believe you know how to clean your clothes. You won't even need to, really, anyway.
I wear a black suit, a black shirt, black chucks, and a white tie to all formal occasions. I dare you to try it.
I've already done it. unless you mean Ryan. He won't dare.
I need a new pair of leather Chucks for formal events.
I like my black chucks, never had a leather pair. If the situation calls for it, I also have a pair of 1990's Vision low tops.
Super fancy.
Air washing works!
I took my nice jeans (that smelled like the inside of a rhino's butthole) flipped them inside out and hung them in the window for a day. Today they smell fresh and clean. I may never wash a pair of jeans (unless I spill something) ever again.
Or do exactly what I just did, because it works?
It doesn't work. Air will not remove dirt and grime.
I like being punk and all but I need to be meticulously groomed to feel any form of good. If I feel even a little off I can't talk to women. I can't have that.
So manly.
If your appearance isn't completely ideal, your self esteem and confidence plummet?
San Francisco was a good call for your hetero-homosexuality.
You're going to upset Drew if you imply that Razor is less than manly man mcman stud straightly pants
fack, i wish i would have done that with a pair I've got, they were at that perfect fit stage and i spilled something or other on it and I knew i should have hand washed and air dryed, but i didn't and now the fit is garbage and I'll have to wear them for 2 months again before they are comfortable.
Good. I'm relieved to know you aren't actually thinking of others.
Embrace your heterosexual homofashional lifestyle.
Embrace it.
chlorine!
I haven't had tooo much success with air drying, thought i forgot to flip inside out, didn't know that helped.
Febreeze is just a scent masker, so it doesn't really get rid of any of the bacteria (9/10 the cause of smell). Once febreeze gets wet, it actually release the scent again, so if you sweat, you remove it.
If air drying dries things up enough, it should dehydrate any bacteria to death I imagine.
I hadn't washed these fuckers in a month, easy. I left them up for a couple hours then flipped them inside out for a couple more. The ass end of the jeans came out smelling like a beautiful summer afternoon.
MAGIC! Maybe?
Don't quote the ghosts, buddy.
hot shit for reals. <3s all over.

Wrong thread?
Surprised that razor realized that motorcycles are not fashion accessories
Nah, I intended for those to be here. I realize that this thread is meant primarily for discussing clothes, but I'm just expanding on what this means...
I like the look of those bikes and that's part of my personal style. The emphasis being on style here. And, lately, my passion for motorcycles has been the biggest influence on how I dress and what I buy. For example, if I were to get that Triumph with those spiffy brown bags and seat, I'd get something like this to match:
http://www.the-nextlevel.com/tnl/att...6&d=1338070210
You can't argue that that's not related. Similarly, I think that it'd be appropriate to post home accessories and furnishings that I dig here too since, again, it all informs who I am and what my style is.
I dunno, maybe putting motorcycles in here is a stretch, buuut...
Don't mind if I do. :)
And while we're sorta on the topic, my new favorite 'tude tee:
http://www.the-nextlevel.com/tnl/att...8&d=1338073885
haha, back when Hot Topic actually sold "objectionable" merchandise, that tee would have a good home there. Love the distressing though.
A motorcycle is not a fashion accessory.
No, it's not. But it is a lifestyle thing. And I decided to show those pics here because I like their look, which should give some insight into my visual taste. As well, and as I said, motorcycles have been a heavy influence recently on my fashion choices. I guess I was just attempting to take a holistic approach to describing my style, since all of the things that I'm into tend to influence each other. That's all. I probably should've explained what I was doing instead of seemingly posting a few misplaced pics.
LOL, yeah, you're not wrong. Lisbeth's whole look was very Hot Topic. I normally think attitude shirts are lame, but I got a kick out of that one while I was watching the movie.
I haven't actually watched the movie yet, but I do like her character design. Ok, the eyebrow bar bothers me a tiny bit, but it works on her. I dig the whole dystopian goth thing, obviously.
Found a 1960s era bathing suit while thrifting yesterday. It's really amazing what good quality it is, and how it's built like an actual piece of clothing and not just a piece of stretchy fabric slapped together with some elastic ties like modern suits. I'm surprised it fits me as well, vintage sizing is usually quite small and sort of awkward on a modern frame.
pics pls

aaaaaaugh
well, you know, i'm being realistic.
Made these for the wife, I need more practice.
WOW!!!! You made those for your wife?! that is so cool, and so sweet! I've never met a guy who decoupaged!
Well, they look great!! awesome job
Making things is manly.
I'm looking at suits. Any opinions on John Varvatos, Hugo Boss, or Ted Baker? They worth blowing about $500 on? I liked the Ted Baker the most, but the inside liner is Austin Powers-esque shiny purple paisley, so I don't think I can go that direction. Why do they ruin a normal looking suit like that??
Be man enough to rock purple. It says a lot about you if you can't. Varvatos are my favorites because his suits are the "punk rock" suits of fashion. Slim cut, small lapels, buy small collar shirts (something I'm guilty of not doing) so you can wear a skinny/slim tie, and make sure your shirts are just as slim cut. Hugo Boss is decent but they really aren't the Varvatos. Oh, and if you real very edgy, take that same Varvatos suit and use his Chucks with them. Or the ones I prefer are the leather Chucks for about $65 in a bright color if you go with a dark suit or a dark color if you go for a bright suit.
And $500? That's pretty affordable. Varvatos suits go for $1k and up.
Punk rock does not have to mean wearing the same hole-ridden jeans for weeks straight until the smell curl your eye lashes. Punk rock is being whoever the fuck you want to be and not giving a shit about what others think about it. If the Ramones played in suits they would still be more punk than you could ever hope to be.
Keep telling me what punk is.
Keep telling me why you think your way is right and everyone else is wrong.
It's not that I can't rock the purple liner, it's that I hate it. That suit wasn't quite the right size anyway. A couple of the Varvatos look good. Regular price was somewhere between $750 and $1000, but there's a big sale at Nordstrom, they're $450. Going to go back and try them on. Small collar/ skinny tie is the plan.
What's the suit for? Lately I've been on a Glenn O'Brien kick where he says black suits are only for funerals. They are nice but aren't as fun. At that price, I'd get two or three: brown, grey, and a khaki-like color. Or if you feel funky get a pastel color that you gotta be confident as fuck to rock. Or even a cotton suit for high-heat days (I don't know where you live) or maybe a navy blue because that's just classy.
I use my nice suit jackets for everything from walking for miles to weddings to all day drinking binges. Make sure you can do the same with this one.
I need it for my wedding. It's outdoors and I'm going to go a medium to charcoal grey, they had an option for both. I can't pull off a lot of the funky color suits, I don't think that kind of style works on tall people and I'm 6'4".
I'm 6'2" and I don't let my height dictate my style. It has more to do with your personality. I had some dude in my old office at 6'4" and when he was out and about he wore some funky shit. Worry about the fit and pattern more than if you can wear a color. But then again I'd need a photo to go with to judge. Anyway, if it's outdoors during the summer I say get a light grey. It's my favorite.
This kind of grey is okay:
http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...80208804_n.jpg
but I am a fan of a lighter shade. Grey can be a downer so I want to make it as light as possible.
This is the one I think i was looking at. Same color at least http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/john-var...resultback=536
You can definitely party in that suit. Keep in mind that shit is wool, meaning when it's balls hot outside you're going to be baking. If it's this summer I recommend this:http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/john-var...resultback=303 but of course not everyone is comfortable with cotton. My old boss, who has tons of fashion clients, balked when I recommended he buy a cotton suit for the summer since NY gets muggy and humid.
The suit you linked to is solid, though. If I had the extra scratch I'd buy it.
Varvatos often seems like he is trying too hard to be rock, but I do own a pair of varvatos designer pants I like, so take my critique with a grain of salt.
By the by, I'm going to learn Zero/Vergil. They seem way too strong for me to ignore anymore. Maybe Zero/Spencer/Vergil.
I think I'm gonna take up Wesker/Dorm/Taskmaster. Also, pants.
Maybe you could pull off Wesker, but Taskmaster? No fucking way.
If you really are punk rock, then you know you are supporting an over priced industry that probably out sources labor to 3rd world countries...and you're ok with it because it serves your own ends. You're also supporting a vain concept of superiority that connects status to one's ability to find particular arrangements of fabric and wearing them in public.
If you really are punk rock, and you really are informed and doing what you want, then you are an evil wretched person.
This is why I hate you. You're either a narcissist, evil or stupid. Or all three.
Oh please.
Even if razor doesn't personally believe people who buy certain brands are better than those who don't (which I doubt), he supports those beliefs by giving those brands his money. He's supporting that world by participating, even if he has different reasons for participating.
That's the point of my comment. He claims to know everything about what he is doing, condone it all, and be punk rock. If that was all true, he'd be a shitty person.
If he was to say that he is aware of it, but he compromises his need to look nice, what is available, and the reality of fashion, it would be more respectable, but not punk rock.
EDIT: This is like how razor will brag about buying CDs that support record companies that Josh hates. He pretends to know everything about the situation and be ok with it. Either he is stupid and doesn't really know everything about it. or he does know and supports horrible things because of his own gain.
You can't even play Vergil.
You admire both me and Chris.
Admire is a strong word.
Just not strong enough.
Got my suit. Ended up spending a little more for a grey Zegna suit, but I look great in it. The cut is awesome.
Attachment 66200
I just got these. So loud.
Those offend me, sir.
What type of casual shoes do you guys wear with chinos or darker jeans in the summer? Looking for something lightweight with no ankle.
I almost always (like 80% of the time) wear hi-top Chucks. I've done this since early college. But, I'm glad you asked! The other 20 percent? I have these grey, very fine checker patterned Vans since you can wear those without socks comfortably. I strongly suggest those. Another are Tom's (I think that's what those hippie shoes are called) but be aware some just fall apart. They look nice with everything. A bit nicer, I'd go with some nice loafers. DO NOT BUY THEM IN BLACK FOR FUCKS SAKE. A nice chocolate brown works, or you can aim for a caramel brown if you want to be a rebel with your dark jeans. Protip: if you go with brown, make sure your belt, if leather, matches the shoes and any other leather accessories like a watch or leather wrist band.
Also, the most stylish thing are colorful boat shoes. H&M sells some psychedelic shoes for around $20. You get what you pay for, though. They can be a tad uncomfortable when worn too long but they are pretty awesome looking for the price. Sperry Topsider sells some really funky-colored ones that I cannot approve of enough. They are awesome and you will feel awesome. You will be noticed, too.
I guess you can go with some solid-color or funky-colored sole sneakers like Adidas, but they are meh to me unless you wear them with more dressy clothes like a suit. But anyway, that's my opinion.
If anyone here buys or still owns a pair of square-toed shoes, shame on you. Shame. On. You.
Looking for good non-squared shoes at places like Burlington is such a goddamn pain in my ass. Square toes everywhere and then I finally find one pair of CK shoes or something that I like and they're barely even discounted or not in my size.
I usually buy a pair or two of H&M cheap-ass solid color shoes a year. They don't hold up to any amount of walking but for $15 who cares, they look good and the solid colors are easy to match up. I also have a pair of Penguin boat shoes I really like.
