I love Maritime's Jolly Roger. Strong stuff. A few bottles did me right, but it's best from the brewpub here in Ballard. Alaskan's winter is pretty cool, it's brewed with pine tips and you can taste em. I'm not that huge of a fan of Alaskan in general so I usually only get that a few times throughout the season.

The Rogue beer is mostly trash. They're the Sam Adams of expenisve pints imo.

You see, I had some that I had a few years back and didn't think much of them. However, I keep hearing rave reviews for them, and keep thinking that they're worth a second chance.

Speaking of Rogue, I had a bottle of this a few days back, and it was awesome. Made with roasted soba.

Recommended! I don't know about most of the other Rogue stuff, but this seemed weird enough to try.

Let me rephrase... they're not bad, they're just nowhere near as good as other stuff that is in the same price range.

Coopers is real quality. I prefer their pale ale, but i'm not a massive beer connoseur or anything. Coopers and Boags are the main large premium beer companies down here.

Pretty much. Most popular beer down here is probably between VB and Tooheys New, though i'm not a fan of the tooheys (Love VB though).

If I ever run into VB around here I'll pick some up. And I had that oatmeal stout yesterday... It was so smooth and rich, with a little aftertaste of coffee and a hint of chocolate. I love how good dark beer isn't bitter as hell.

I'm with Josh on most Rogue beers, but they do have a few excellent ones. Dead Guy as mentioned above, and I really like the Shakespeare Stout. The Sam Adams comparison is pretty apt in that they have a lot of good beers for introducing people to better stuff, but for the money you can always do better if you poke around. Curious about the Double Dead Guy Ale, just saw it for the first time a week or so ago.

On the subject of Sam Adams, I've been able to find bottles of Triple Bock around here for years, despite them not making any for what, a decade now? People who spend a little too much time at Sam Adams tastings have told me that they continue to brew it (and they must, considering there are restaurants around here that still serve it), but it's always small quantities and never for public sale. I know a lot of the people who try it tend to dislike it, and it really isn't for anyone, but has anyone had anything else like it?

Is it just a super-high abv beer? Kind of like Dogfishhead 120 minute IPA or whatever (I think 20% abv)?

Edit: And I think Yuengling has officially become my "standby" beer. The beer I buy when I don't want to think about what to buy. At the cheaper places in town it's typically $9/12 pack.
