It should be alright. My boss isn't really that horrible, and if I get fired just because one of my best friends died the week before Christmas, well then fuck him.

I don't know why people threaten to fire people for that kind of stuff. Wouldn't it more work to find someone new than just deal with you being gone for a while?
Most places allow for days off due to Funerals. I know only immediate family, but Mr. K could have told them he is family.
