I sometimes wonder if our politicians are all C students and Bureaucracy is the 'hard' part of their jobs, so they avoid it. Like, it actually takes study and planning. So they avoid it for soft topics like abortion and gun control. And that maybe much of our current headaches don't come from either party being evil, but more that they are lazy and stupid. They're not trying to manipulate us to gain power, they're just trying to get out of doing their fucking jobs.
Every politician is afraid of having their name attached to the words "wants to raise taxes." So it never goes anywhere and we're all fucked.
The idea of subsidizing smokers by keeping taxes low on cigs in the year 2015 is insane to me. Even in North Carolina.Quote:

My SiriusXM trial is up on the 14th, and I've been going back and forth on whether to renew it. Today I heard Janie's Got a Gun on The 80's on 8, complete with "left him in the pouring rain" where "put a bullet in his brain" should have been. I guess the silver lining is that I saved hundreds of dollars over time, but I'm still pissed that censorship is allowed to run wild on a subscription service. Anybody else have the problem in iTunes where it just jumps to the top of library if you switch to another application? It only started happening after I updated the app. And it's crazy annoying.
Wifi is supposedly shitty for phones due to dropped packets and latency, so a DECT handset with an adapter is usually the easiest. True wifi handsets for VoIP will cost as much as any smart phone cell phone.Quote:

I'm afraid we're going to become the Model T generation of computing. When cars first became common goods, car owners became very skilled with cars. Everyone that owned one had skills that the average car owner does not have today. They might not do everything, but each would do unheard of things like rebuilding an engine, redoing the breaks or even preparing the acid of their battery. I have a few pamphlets around here on batteries from the 1920s. There are entire sections on specific gravity of the acid, which acid to use, which tools to use, etc for redoing a battery.
The generations after us will be as to computers as we are now are to cars. The average person will not be able to do or fix shit.

Yeah, I think we're well past that. Computers have been magic boxes for most users for a couple of decades now. My Amiga 500 came with two manuals as thick as phonebooks, which included complete schematics and pinouts, programming documentation, as well as basic usage instructions. That was pretty much the tail end of that type of computing, where the typical user could be expected to at least dabble in programming. The real computer geeks a decade older than me were building their own machines at a component level.
Windows killed 'real computers', as soon as command lines weren't expected of the end user it was all over.
