So, there've been a few changes with Late Night talk shows since I had television. It looks like production value has gone up -- new sets, staged skits, etc. but it really fucking bothers me Seth Meyers has gotten away with his opening monologue being THE FUCKING WEEKEND UPDATE. Really? You get to do that? Not Kevin Nealon or Chevy Chase?
Fallout Boy sampled the Munsters in one of their shitty songs and in an interview mentioned that people who heard it thought it was Pulp Fiction, so it made them think about Kill Bill and what a strong female lead Uma Thurman was in that so they named the song after her.
I hate everything about that.

We're nearing the end of the semester, so naturally every student has a shit ton of problems that caused them to miss class, tests, and assignments. Of course, they missed all this shit weeks and even months ago, but for some reason they only get around to letting me know of their plights now. It's always the same shit, and it seems to be getting worse each year. So many students today are irresponsible, self-entitled babies who simply don't have the commitment for a college education. I was no 4.0 nerd, but even I never dreamed of telling a professor that I didn't take a test or hand something in because "I forgot" or "had a presentation/report/assignment for another class at that hour." They consider these to be legitimate excuses, mind you, and they get indignant when I call them on their bullshit. And online classes? I don't even WANT to go there.
Fucking A, if these are the future leaders of America, I'm moving to Canada.

I had the first "oh shit, semester is almost over and i never went to class" dream last night since I went back to school 3 years ago. Argh.
I always have those about foreign language classes. I think it's a sign I should take a foreign language.

I had a roommate cause a kitchen fire and I burned my hand taking care of it. Flesh was blistered and bubbled a little. All of this the night before the final. Showed teacher. Not one fuck.
Engineering school is still the hardest thing for me. And a big part of it is that the teachers are unmovable to the point of absurdity. Probably because of years of teaching lying freshmen.
3 weeks of straight work with several 10 to 13 hour days, easier than college. Random graveyard shifts? Easier than college.
Like if I had to pick between someone driving a nail through a finger and college, I'd probably take the nail.
I did well with college all-nighters, give or take a couple Xacto wounds.
My biggest regret was having to work at the same time I was trying to get a senior film together, things never quite came together.

It has nothing to do with reality. 99.9% of skilled labor jobs are going to work with you on this shit. Not colleges.
Why? Because every teacher has done intro to something and had 50 dead grandmother's and a 1000 other lyers. When I lived with a teacher it was like that every year with every class. 25% lazy liars.
A lot of teachers don't yield because some students kill off family members on a monthly basis or come in November to cry about how they missed a test in September due to a family death. They bring no evidence - nothing that can justify a make up. Hell, most aren't even that creative. I've had students literally tell me that they missed my test because they were doing work for another class or overslept and then stare dumbfounded at me when I basically tell them "tough shit."
I'm not tenured. Tenure would actually help me combat this shit, since I wouldn't have to worry about students whining to the dean and telling only half the story. Universities only care about the almighty dollar now, so I have to be "understanding" and "compassionate" and accept their bullshit excuses and slack-asses.
I'm to the point now that I simply don't care. I don't. I put everything in writing ("no late papers accepted" is bolded, underlined, italicized, AND FUCKING HIGHLIGHTED in my syllabus) and cover my ass. Do the work and come to class, and I'll help you out. Be lazy and slack off and I will fail you. Miss class and I will drop you like you're hot.
I missed plenty of classes and never bothered trying to make excuses for it. Of course, I usually had the option of having the final exam count for 100% of my grade, so I really didn't care. Only having one test to worry about for the whole semester made life so much easier.
oh lord, that sounds like a horrible idea. Most of my finals were made to drop grades as some kind of final lesson of "you should hit everything you do as hard as you possibly can to compensate for unwinnable battles down the road."
