I've looked it up and it doesn't look like drive replacement fixes the issue. I wouldn't mind just buying a new one but since I can't get to the menu I also can't transfer data to a new system so I'd lose all my digital games. And Nintendo charges $185 for an out of warranty repair.
I know you said swapping drives doesn't seem to help, but I've got this "refurbished" WII U I bought from Nintendo and sold to Pineapple and he had to return. It reads discs but overheats and shuts down after 5-10 minutes. If you want it for parts you can have it for shipping. Worst case scenario, maybe something from your system could repair it. Then mod it and steal all the stuff you already paid for. Eff Nintendo and their stupid account system.

Woke up this morning to discover someone poured pop rocks in my ear. Not really, but that’s what it feels and sounds like. Has been coming and going all day. Can’t wait to get home and try pouring a little warm olive oil in there as has been recommended. It’s all I can do to stop myself from jamming qtips in there.
You probably already know this, but the drug store sells ear wax cleaning kits that are pretty handy. The have drops that dissolve the hard wax like no home remedy can.
