That's pussy talk. All in all the time.

For those of us that didn't take the cel-shaded graphics as an affront to our manhood Wind Waker was a fun game. The cel-shaded graphics struck me as an attempt to get back to the visual style of LTTP and that was commendable.
As for Mario Kart Wii, I will again point out that it will have online battle mode. Online battle mode. They could leave out the racing entirely for all I care. My only complaint with Mario Kart DS was the lack of online battle mode. Online battle mode? That's right, online battle mode.
OMG!!!!! MOTHERFUCKER!!!! I'm SICK AND TIRED OF THIS SHIT!!!!
Get these motherfucking snakings off this motherfucking plane!

Tricks?
And take a look at this ugly shit:

Blah.
Who cares, you're all going to buy it Day One anyway and then LOL at Nintendo when it's crap. Meanwhile, they'll be cashing your checks at the bank talking about how they'll rip you off next gen with GC and a new controller
And you'll still be mowing lawns, thus maintaining "the circle of life."
Honestly, I don't know if tricks would turn me off as much as two people to a kart did.
That last set of shots does look a bit like a rainbow threw up on 'em.
I think I can count the polygons making up Bowser in that last shot.
I think those screen shots look just fine and if it is anywhere near as good as Mario Kart DS I'll be playing this shit for years.
I like the little shyguy on the lift.
This game is gonna be great. :D
Considering no game released in the states has online play there's no answer for that question.
Uh, what?
Nevermind me is what.
Am I mistaken, or does this game actually look quite blockier than Double Dash? I thought at least first party titles could hack it graphically on wii.
I guess I don't understand why GP never got a port, either. Clearly it would sell, it does have "Mario" in the title. It's been finished for a few years, they just need to add a couple tracks and make the graphics worse. We'll worry about GP2 on the next N platform.
whatsup with the wallpaperish backgrounds
Don't question Nintendo's innovation.
I don't think this info was posted before so here you go: http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?cId=3166349
It talks about the controls and a couple of new items. It sounds pretty good but I'm not sure what to think about the power sliding changes. Maybe it was to curb snaking?
They've still got a lot of usage to pull out of the Mario Kart DS models. ;)
Found this info at NeoGAF. Most of the users there seem to believe this game has killed snaking. It was my first time reading their forums and I'm not impressed.

mode 7 style courses sound pretty cool/funny.
for 5 min probably...
"We've had time to play through about 50 or so races thus far, and while Mario Kart is undoubtedly fun at times, [it's not] above Double Dash in terms of overall entertainment value."
"For starters, the game does feel a bit slower, even on 150CC levels. While the actual speed may be pretty close to Double Dash and Kart DS respectively, it has more to do with a global decision to make the roads wider this time around not only for the 12 racers on-screen at once, but also (we'd assume) for the less-hardcore Wii audience."
"The final aspect that's worth noting ... is the trick system. With boosting simplified (and snaking removed; we tried for a few solid laps to do it, and the time it takes to earn the level one boost is just too long) tricking is where pro players are going to set themselves apart. It's as simple as pulling up on the Wii remote when taking off into the air, and it results in a speed boost equivalent to a level one power slide.... From our experience thus far it's impossible to fail a trick..."

this is what has kept me away since the SNES game.
from IGN
"Race AI is cheap. The chances are very good that if you're in first place coming into the second lap, you will get nailed by a blue shell, lighting bolt, the squid, a POW block, and maybe a cloud for good measure. You can go from first to twelfth place in a matter of a few seconds, or the other way around. It's all good and fine if you happen to slide into first at the end of a race; you probably won't complain too much. On the other hand, try to imagine yourself bombarded by a host of cheesy items just before you finish a race, only to drop in place behind a half dozen competitors or more – not because you messed up, but because the AI kicked in. This issue is multiplied by the presence of 11 additional racers; more karts, more chances for the deployment of annoying items. It's discouraging stuff. On the flipside, I've actually seen karts ahead of me slow down to let me catch up – almost patronizing me, really – which is also a pretty cheesy way to keep some semblance of balance. "
Why, are you looking for a face full of "squid juice"?
Order it by name!
Blah. That blurb from IGN sounds like everything I dislike about MK is being amplified to the point where I wouldn't even have fun with the game.

i love Jeffrey Rowland.
Sheesh, why does this game look so poor? Smash Bros Brawl has such gorgeous backdrops, why do these courses look so weak?
Tricks and Motorcycles, ehhh, we'll see.
I enjoyed Double Dash (minus the double dash feature), and the DS version was awesome. But this just seems....off.
The graphics of Mario Kart on Wii are gorgeous and take full advantage of Nintendo's advanced hardware.
Nintendo announced the US release date yesterday. This hits stores on April 27th. That's much sooner than I thought. With Smash Bros. just coming out I thought they would milk this until early June.

This game looks like trash. The series as a whole doesn't mean anything to me anymore.
I'd like to apologize for forgetting about We Love Golf when making this thread's subtitle. That will clearly be better than this.
Looks like Mario Kart Wii won't suck after all. The "tricks" aren't as bad as originally believed (you do a trick in the air and when you land, you get a speed boost). Track design is as good as the DS tracks, but they borked Battle Mode by forcing teams instead of allowing free-for-all. They said even the Wii Wheel doesn't suck.
So they're liars? There's no way that wheel doesn't suck.
It has to be good! Nintendo's selling it separately for $15. Who wouldn't want that?
So comfy! How much are they selling that POS Wii Zapper for again?
$20 with a demo
That review didn't even mention rubber band AI. It's not to be trusted.
IBTN
If a wheel is not held in place by a base, it can't simulate driving.
I have high hopes for this game. I don't think it will be better than the DS version but I think it will be much better than the GC one so it is a win as far as I'm concerned.
The newest issue of Nintendo Power has a huge write up about it and it sounds like a ton of fun. I wish the multi-player had the bomb blast game from the GC one but it didn't make the cut. I was also bummed to read that the Mission mode from the DS game isn't in the Wii one. I thought I read somewhere that it was going to be in so that's kind of a downer. Oh well, I still can't wait.
Old tracks are the life-blood of the series, are you crazy?
Besides, if they take 'em off the disc, they're just going to sell you the damn things one at a time later.
I'm still optimistic at this point. Mario Kart DS remains my favorite entry as far as gameplay/design goes.
The new emphasis on speed boosting should make a nice replacement for snaking.
Heh, speaking of which-- damn near half the office has DS's now, we're doing some ad-hoc Mario Kart tomorrow at lunch. Hopefully at least a couple other folks actually own the game...
I am reasonably giddy for this game and we already have a "mario kart friday" planned when it comes out.
I would love to get this game, but I hate how the Wii has it's online setup, mainly because I don't get it...
im down for some racing when this ships as well.
MK DS looks a hell of a lot better than MK64. That fucking thing was a blurry mess ten years ago, and it is today. :D
DS's characters are made of fat-ass polygons, but they're stylized well. I really wish there were a lot more multiplayer options, though.
To each their own. There's enough tracks from those games in DS that I don't feel the need to go back.
I'm glad they took out the snaking, speed boosts sound like more fun.
I'm thinking the wheels not going to add much, too bad because this is the only game I could ever see myself using a wiimote attachment with.
Mario Kart DS was a lot of fun, the N64 game was and always will be busted as hell.
The only fun thing about MK64 is the balloon dueling on block fort, they were never able to make that shit fun again on any new MK game.
It is cool.
I concur.
A well-thought-out analysis of the situation.
i've played the original (still my favorite) and the N64 version which was god awful. never touched the GC one and only spent about 5 minutes playing my brothers DS version.
why can't they just try to make a game where if you have skill you win? none of this lightning and red shells only shit for 2-8th place on every lap shit. if i beating your ass by RACING, i should have a leg up.
In a sense, Mario Kart is a racing game in the same way "Smash Bros." is a fighting game, i.e., it's really not. It's kind of it's own thing.
X > GX
Stop that.
what's funny is that there was already the perfectly fine coin system from the original that didn't need fucked with. you drive good and get coins, you go faster by having a higher top speed. didn't need changed imo. i also don't remember the rampant abuse of offensive weapons to the trailing players as much that affected the whole field.
about the only thing that may have needed a change was more risk involved in getting the coins.
The coin system WAS nice. The main strategy in the newer games seems to consist of "stay in 3rd place until the final lap, then destroy everything", BUT, if you can tear-ass and get a half-lap advantage, no amout of blue shells can stop you (because there will be about 40 of those flying at you by this time).
I wouldn't mind it if they re-introduced coins and scaled back the weapons system (or added some defense against blue shells/bullets).
exactly my point. i mean honestly.......give us the original game with better graphics. hopefully that PC mod i posted a couple days ago will do just that (assuming Nintendo doesn't stop them).
 WE ARE AGREEING!
The weapons were perfectly balanced in the original game. Anytime an opponent carried a red shell, you could easily defend against it by holding a shell or banana behind your cart to block, or you might be given the feather, which would still allow you to jump over the red shell if your timing was right. Heck even if the opponent was holding a lightning, you'd usually next pick up a ghost and have a chance at stealing the lightning.
They need to bring back the coins and the feather, imo.
You couldn't hold items behind your kart in the original SNES Super Mario Kart. Your only defense against red shells were to drop an item behind you at the right time (like in Double Dash or to hug a wall and hope it hit that instead of you. The feather sometimes worked, but it was never reliable.
As for item balance in the other Mario Karts, they're fine. Yeah, there are a lot of blue shells flying in MK: DS, but unless the other racers are pretty close they're not going to gain that much on you; and if you're smart and have other people around you when the blue shell is coming, you'll get as close to them as possible and let the explosion radius take them out as well.
Dragging banana peels behind your kart in Super Mario Kart? Nope. I'm sorry, Dyne. That never happened.
Dragging items started in Mario Kart 64 and was also in Mario Kart Super Circuit and Mario Kart DS, but both Super Mario Kart and Double Dash would only let you drop an item behind you or throw it ahead.
It's true, no dragging items in SNES version. But Mario Kart DS was a terrible game, so I don't see why people want this one to be like that.
I admit that 64 was technically a busted mess, but I still remember having a blast with it, even when playing it in the dorms a few years ago. SNES version was far superior. I never had the same amount of fun with the DS version.
Did they release two versions of the Super Nintendo game? I remember dragging items and powerslide boosting distinctly.
Your memory is an idiot.
yeah i for sure did a zig zag powerslide type of move in that game. while it wasn't an offical boot it did actually give you an advantage.
also this: (from gamefaqs)
ADVANCED CORNERING This is the second way to tackle a corner, I
always use this way when I am using someone like
Yoshi, Mario, Luigi, Donkey Knog JR or just about
anyone else apart from Toad and Koopa. What you
can do is hop into a skid. To hop, press L or R on
the top of the control, and then move the
directional button the way of the corner. This can
be very effective.
You people have terrible memories.
SNES Mario Kart had no powersliding and no item dragging. Some of the characters could manipulate the hop to create a kind of "faux powerslide," but that's about it.
The only bad thing I have to say about the DS Mario Kart is that half the tracks weren't playable online. Everything else about it trounces the previous entries in the series.
DS Mario Kart is very great if everyone has a copy of the game for local matches. Being stuck in Simple/Demo mode isn't horrible, but it could be better.
