To be fair, nobody reads your posts.
"We had 6 people playing the HELL out of the DS game at lunch just now. We all had a terrible time. "
Who cares? While I understand it is not a Wipeout game, it doesn't even feel like you're moving. That's pretty much Sin #1 of a racing game. Lots of people like pooing on each other too, but that doesn't mean it's good.
I care. It's a fun game. That's the point of these things, moron.
Good, maybe they'll put the fun back in. Unless it's just one of those things where I have nostalgia from playing the original when I was 11.
Now that you're 12, you've moved on. Gotcha.
I don't think any "kart game" has ever been marketed as "FIERCE REALISTIC RACING ACTION". It's a goofy game where you cause people grief while going around a track, and is a good time for all involved.
Ah, I get it. I guess I have moved on from the "goofy game" age to the "good game" one. That must happen when you don't have six people with a DS at lunchtime.
And next year you can get into PG-13 movies, exciting!
You've failed to explain how "fun" and "good" are different concepts. If it was an Important New FPS with SHINY GRASS, you'd be all about it.
Because it's a racing game, and you don't, well...race? Unless you consider moving molasses slow racing. I think that sums it up pretty well.
Yea, we get it. For some reason, every single Nintendo property is its own thing, so as to not to offend the kids. Metroid isn't a FPS, MK isn't a racing game and Smash Bros isn't a fighting game.
They just bundle a wheel (is that what they are calling that?) with the game.
Go look at a go-kart. Oh man, steering, time to take this bitch on the highway! WHAOW
Good ones move faster than a walking person. Power Wheels don't.
Just shut up, you stupid piece of shit.
Now now, that's why Ninty doesn't allow voice chat. Well, that and effort is required. Although now that I think about it, I'm sure their fans would spin it so that it really isn't the same as voice chat and thus shouldn't be compared to superior offerings.
Which is why having friends IRL = awesome! :D
I'm sorry your nurse won't play games with you, Joust. nice under-the-wire edit action, btw
wow...sad
I assume you live in a group-home for invalids.
This has been a great discussion, what with me commenting on MKDS' lack of speed and you retorting by throwing out pathetic insults, but...yeah
Oh you.
It's not a speed game, never was, and short of coming in to lulz about your favorite company, you haven't had point 1.
You could powerslide boost in the SNES version... You hopped and wiggled the d-pad until your smoke turned into an orange 3 and then you got a little boost when you let go. It took a lot more effort so you couldn't use it as much as in the more recent games.
Dammit, I'm gonna have to pull out a copy and play it again.
He's insulting you cause you missed the point of MK DS, its not about the "sense of speed" like say GT. Hell MK SNES had no sense of speed either, especially compared to something like F-Zero.
It's like complaining about not being able to just run out in the open and gun everything down in Splinter Cell, when you can do it in other games with the same perspective that uses guns.
Shit! Are all my fond memories from the N64 game!?
No, it really isn't. Mario Kart has gotten slower and we've gotten older. Whether it's because the tracks or wider or whatever, the sense of speed has gone down from acceptable to 'might as well not be moving at all'.
If you like it, fine. But again--while no one is expecting Wipeout, I speak for a lot of people (especially because I'm far from the only one who has complained about this on the internet) when I say it's a shame that it's so slow.
I don't care if he tosses personal insults (I've never even met him, and from the sounds of it, would hate to), but it does show his true colors.
It sounds like you're remembering the N64 game, not the SNES one.
Joust is right, BTW. Mario Kart games have gotten slower as the series has gone on. Double Dash was laughably slow, especially since the powersliding/boosting felt awful in that game. The DS Mario Kart made the speed decrease irrelevant by making snaking so easy and smooth.
Edit: LOL at posts #204 - #221 being entirely comprised of back-and-forth banter from two people.
I don't like Mario Kart because I don't like winning from blue shells and shit.
Wipeout's items don't seem so decisive, and the actual racing mechanics seem way better. So I like Wipeout.
Yeah.
I don't know if I would say everyone agrees with you Joost considering that WW (and probably in each region, I know it is in the US and Japan) Mario Kart DS is the best selling Mario Kart game. So obviously it has enough speed for a good majority of the people, and they find it fun enough to buy and play.
I bought it too. And I thought it sucked balls. So? I don't care who the hell bought it.
We get it that Nintendo is trying to include everyone. But I don't have to like it if it comes at the expense of my enjoyment.
He never said that "everyone" agrees with him, and he really shouldn't give a shit that it's the best selling Mario Kart game.
I've had a lot of fun playing shitty games in multiplayer simply because of the people I was playing with. The games still sucked.Quote:

Each console Kart is worst than the last. Every indication is that this one continues the trend.
Kart DS is nearly as good as the original and Super Circuit.
I don't mind rubberband Ai in mario kart, even against people are really good I still always win.
I'd be a fan of being able to tweak AI, items, etc though, that would be neat.
Also, lol at half the replies in these last couple pages, geeze people.
I am still excited for the new game btw.
Motorcycles! :D
Mario Kart with a Smash Brothers level of frill would be awesome.Quote:

That's K3V, says right in the quote you posted.
look K3V, Rumpy reads my posts :)
Better than reading Biffs' posts.
can't really say that's much of a compliment
that's so AWESOME. i want you to have this mister jizzbag.

Mario Kart edition of Iwata asks.
Online sounds solid (you know, for Nintendo). You can see who's online in the MK channel without actually booting up the game, and you can join in the middle of games in progress.
In the middle of a race. It'll put you in spectator mode until a new race begins.
This thread is full of win
I'm sure this will prompt groaning, kinda like the concept though.Quote:
Iwata:Instead of being told you’re ranked 83,431, it’s much more rewarding to be shown how many people around the world are playing at your level.
Apparently there's a hidden character from Galaxy in the game, hopefully Rosetta and not a random Toad. *-neo
Ironically, from a statistics standpoint, Nintendo's approach is more valid. I'm sure that's complete coincidence though.
Mario Kart is not just playing bumper cars on a track, it's a racing game and the lack of speed is a big turn-off. I'm still going to get this game because it should be a quality party atmosphere game and one that should be inviting to my non-gaming friends.
Otherwise, the series is too inconsistent. I liked Super Circuit a lot but was disappointed in MKDS. I like 64 but was disappointed in DD. The MK formula shouldn't be a difficult one to tweak but for some reason Nintendo is so hit or miss on this series it makes you concerned that you may be wasting $50 when it should be a slam dunk safe purchase.
Honestly, pretty well said. The SNES version was so well done. 64 I liked, but I agree could have been better. In some instances it really isn't too bad to just keep the gameplay just the same and up the graphics, add new characters/tracks/etc. I've enjoyed all the games to some extent, some more than others, so I may get this game at some point, but I am not expecting to be overwhelmed by it.
It's funny how Mario Kart 64 was a let down at the time, but now that we've seen how bad some of the other sequels have been we are looking back on it fondly as one of the best in the series.
I never really cared for Mario Kart 64. I always felt that the SNES and GBA ones were the best ones until MK DS came out. I think the thing that hurts the N64 and GC releases is the fact that you can't use the D-pad and the analog is kind of sloppy to steer with.
Edge sez 6 kids. *-neo
So it's Double Dash online. Is that worth a purchase?
The gameplay videos up on Eurogamer look just as you've described it.
Tracks are wide as shit and the speed of the game looks just as slow as Double Dash.
I miss the days where the big guys could actually bump people around (and off) the track.
WTF are banked quarter pipes doing in a kart racing game?
This is depressing...like many I was hoping for more MK DS and less MK DD. Sigh.
I <3 DD
Double Dash is the best Mario Kart to date.
I hope Wii plays exactly like it, just with new tracks and online play.
I also <3 the DD.
All that ever did was give you two items to switch between.
I didn't think DD was so bad, me and my friends always had a blast with "capture the shine," I hope it stays or they at least have something similar.
DD was awesome.....true story.
My only problem with DD is that there was like 8 tracks, this is just like all the bitching about sunshine. They aren't bad games by any stretch of the imagination, and a lot of people views of the old games are clouded as fuck with nostalgia.
DD was fun as hell with my friends and it looked slick so I'm in. As long as there are more tracks.
I've found the reason to own this game, and it's a spoiler:
Show me your moves!
The level is irrelevant.
Yas!
FUCK. That just sold me the game.
That video no longer being available makes me want to just run out and buy the game! :p
Even Captain Falcon can't save Mario Kart. Just buy another copy of F-Zero GX.
And if you don't already have a copy: buy one, then kill yourself.
Works for me.
Buying one and then killing yourself or the video?
Both.
Ah, just so we're clear then!
Seriously, I get the "no longer available" message when I click on it. My internets, perhaps?
I still can't get over the fact that there are (:wtf:) in a Mario Kart game.
I'll probably still get it, though.
I haven't been keeping up with this thread, so I apologize if this has already been mentioned.
If you have a Mario Galaxy save file, Rosalina will be immediately unlocked in Mario Kart Wii. If you don't have a save file, you'll unlock her by earning at least one star rank for all Mirror Mode Retro-Cups. Despite her small frame, she is in the Large class.
And here are the returning tracks for the Retro-Cups.

Beats Baby Park, though.
Yoshi Falls sucked hard. Such a stupid track choice given all the awesome stuff they had to choose from in the DS game.
The first ghost track is the only level ever to matter in mario karts.
Also this looks better than double dash for my eyes. I wish they took out the picking cart aspect.
Yeah...I'm not a fan of the picking cart thing either.
Reminder for the Dallas bums. Mario Kart Wii Driving School is in town Apr. 24th.
The Dallas Zoo: 9am-2pm
Speedzone: 3pm-8pm
Test drive and driver's license.
Kart rocks. The steering wheel is amazingly easy to adapt to. Screw playing with the Wavebird.
Found Kart to rent today. I'm glad I rented before buying. The nunchuck combo works much better than the gay wheel. The games ok but the damn item rape is really bad. The new courses are pretty fun but the old ones look like crap and are boring.
Online is pretty fun and lag free from what I played.
Should have mine today (And maybe GTA)
Can I also use a gamecube controller like smash?
Yes, though supposedly some moves can't be done with it.
The game makes me sleepy.
Really mog? should I cancel my preorder?
Can you choose to turn off items while playing online?
Shik I dunno. Its growing a bit on us. 12 player online is pretty fun....
Played it for 4 hours today and I'm still glad I didnt buy it.

So this is officially out today.
If anyone picks it up, make sure to post some impressions.
