I really think the RIAA just uses piracy as an excuse to sell people the same content multiple times because of DRM.
No, that's impossi-- oh, excuse me. Getting a call on my $5 ringtone.
Its about the profit baby. The RIAA is a joint venture of an industry to increase/protect profits with favorable legislation, social engineering and inefficient (for the consumer) product providing.
It's actually easier to pirate than deal with the maze of DRM bullshit, as well.
sad but true if you buy from the majors.
And let's not forget about Sony's little clusterfuck a couple years back, when their efforts at reducing piracy resulted in leaving consumers' PCs vulnerable to malicious activity.
Yeah, that made me want to go out and buy more CDs...
I have this hope that things will begin to fall too quickly, the record companies will actually go bankrupt, and we might get some slimmer of the 60's 70's era where companies pushed good music. Without that strong promotion system already built up like it is now, great things could really happen. (I think the promotional system is the heart of the problem on the consumer end at least.)
It can't get any worse.
