Not really blurry, it tends to smooth out sprite art which may annoy some.

Of the few DS games I've tried, I haven't noticed blurriness or anything, but rather washed out colors. I thought washed out colors were the main issue.
Possibly adjust your backlight? The upper screen's backlight is a beast for the purpose of the 3D effect, not sure how much power it uses in 2D mode.
Anything past the halfway point is retina-burning bright.
I like to cavalierly toss about the word "unplayable" in situations such as these.

The World Ends With You is so blurry it's borderline unplayable. You have to play it in mini mode for the experience to be even remotely acceptable.

You guys are fucking ridiculous. Some of that blur is from the slight shaking as I held both the 3DS and the iPhone in separate hands. It looks slightly better on the actual screen.
I promise that's not what mine looks like.
I'm glad I have a super 3DS from outer space.
I tried upping my brightness all the way and it still doesn't look blurry. Any other variables that could be causing it outside of a system defect?
I wonder if that is what all the bitching has been about, actual defective 3DS systems.
