I've never gotten a tax return in my life, I've always owed about $80-100. I've also never tried to write anything off, usually because I get really fucking lazy and wait until the last minute and then don't feel like bothering. Granted, this last year has been a different kind of job with a different kind of payscale so I have no clue what's awaiting me when I file, should be interesting.

You'll get money back from the state, but if you're not writing anything off and you're making around 30k, you'll owe around 150 to the government. It should balance out.
