Foosball has been a minor obsession at work lately. I used to play back at a bar in Savannah, where there was an ashtray built into the table.

I am the worst goalie imaginable, but a decent forward. I'm looking to learn more in order to rock ultimate.

Who plays? What's your strategy? Let's talk some motherfuckin' table soccer.

Do you play with "Spinnies" or are those something that gets you kicked off the table and laughed at by all your friends?

I personally don't use them, but do enjoy fucking around with trick shots involving the goalie (Kind of like a reverse Jester kind of thing where you set the ball between the goalie and area of the gameboard that is directly above the goal opening, then twisting your goalie reverse of what you normally would to jettison the ball towards the other goal, disorienting all that cannot touch the ball before it lands bak onto the board) or other neat little tricks that are built into the tables.

Slow down there! You lost me after spinnies and after jester I gave up. I wasn't aware anyone thought about foosball or played it while still sober enough to formulate a strategy. I'm curious.

Cheating in foosball should be met with an immediate beer bottle to the head.

We are a NO SPINNERS table. That is a thing which will lose you points. IT IS BULLSHIT WHICH IS FROWNED UPON.

The main move on our table is a quick horizontal pass followed by a SLAM. It gets a goal about 30% of the time. It is a FIERCE MOVE.

My strategy: get the ball in the goal by whatever means possible. I admit it, I play dirty. Spinnies included. After a couple of drinks I'll even grab the other end of your stick.

I used to ban "Spinnies", but I came to realize that anybody bad enough at foosball to spin in the first place is no threat anyway. I let them spin. They score on bullshit here and there. I crush them anyway. :evil:



Incidentally, I'm closing on a house in less than a week. That means that after 2 years, my foosball table will be out of storage and back in my possession where it belongs.

Luckily, none of the people I play with are any good and we're usually too wasted to get mad about it. If I didn't do spinnies, I'd never even be able to hit the damn ball. :(

We've got a "serve rule" whereby the ball must at least touch both teams' players once before a point will count. I'm not sure if it's a common rule, but it prevents much bullshit on self-serves and what not.

Our serve rule says it must only hit the serving team's player before a goal will count. I've got a nasty serve pass to my front line. So do the rest of the guys playing with that rule...as a matter of nessesity.
